Since 2005 Syracuse has started 7, 6, 7, 8, 9, 8, 9, 8, 7, 4, 3, 3, 4, 6, 4 and 4 whites. They are projected to start 5 in 2020.
Syracuse is a long time caste team - never having double digit starters since CF started tracking white starters. Dino Babers has a 24-36 career record at Syracuse while fielding the least number of White athletes over the past 15 years. Not much looks to chance for them this year - the defensive side of the ball is sparse in terms of White athletes. It will be interesting to see if Babers gets canned with another losing season (he only has one winning season in 5 years with the program).
One of the more interesting transfers was that of Garrett Shrader to Syracuse from Miss St. Mike Leach does not utilize dual threat QBs so it was smart for Shrader to transfer. Shrader is uber-athletic and could be one to watch - hoping he wins the starting QB job. DeVito was a highly touted prospect as well but has floundered at Syracuse. I believe one of them will be the starting QB come opening weekend.
Syracuse was forced to convert a White athlete from WR to RB during the 2020 season. That player was Cooper Lutz. In limited action he posted a 43 att/246 yds 1 TD (5.7 YPC) - all very respectable numbers. We can only hope he will be able to continue to play a role in the backfield. Ourlads has him listed as 5th on the depth chart and one of the Syracuse fansites makes no mention of him...for anyone who reads the previews that is not a member of the site...this is blatant anti-White discrimination.
Players to watch for include QB Justin Lamson RB Cooper Lutz, OL Chris Bleich, TE Luke Benson, DB Ben Labrosse, DB Justin Barron, DB AJ Calabro
Offense -
QB - Tommy DeVito or Garrett Shrader or black quarterback
TE - Luke Benson
LG - Dakota Davis
C - Carlos Vettorello
RT - Aaron Servais
Defense -
None
