"TE" Dylan Cantrell cut. Sadly I think he'll wash out of the league for good now. But as Shadowlight emphasizes with so many marginal White players, Cantrell being injury prone hasn't helped any.

The Cantrell news sucks as a Texas Tech guy, his size/athleticism ratio is probably top 5 in the NFL. I bet it sucked for Kingsbury to cut him too.

Very good news regarding Beebe and Chisena! Kudos to Vikings for finding a spot for Chisena, even moving his position to fit into their plans.

Kudos to Vikings for finding a spot for Chisena, even moving his position to fit into their plans.

While reading the Don Shula bio I noticed back in the 1960's and part of the 1970's NFL teams often kept around athletic white players and would find a way to incorporate them into their team plans. It often required a position change of some sort. So a throw back moment with Chisena.

Just a few loose ends. Member Jacque had mentioned that UDFA WR John Hurst had made the Bucs roster with an injury reserve twist. Beyond another injury issue cropping up this is stunningly great news. But I am not certain what that whole sit three weeks and then maybe longer idea means so we will have to wait and see if John actually suits up for the Bucs this season.

One thing is for sure. This very small school's talent and speed were evident at training camp so in a way it ranks with Chisena as the most pleasingly surprising news of the draft. I just wished it was all flush without that injury string attached.

The Raiders have two white safeties on their roster with special team player Dallin Leavitt joining incoming Jeff Heath. The Raiders are getting that look I like. Tough no nonsense hungry white defenders.

For those wondering LB Tanner Muse as expected made the Raiders roster. He struggled at LB in training camp but that was to be expected. He has never played that position before. It will take time but I am confident he will pick things up. In the meantime he will be on the special teams. He will make noise one way or another.

Leavitt is another steal for the Raiders! Absolute bull at Safety.

Agreed on Muse, he'll find his groove.

With Leavitt, Heath, and Erik Harris, the Raiders safety group is 2 3/4 white, you don’t see that very often.

And if Heath starts, as looks likely now, they'll have three White starters on defense (Heath, Crosby and Kwiatkoski) with Carl Nassib seeing plenty of snaps and perhaps enough to be a starter at some point (Clelin Ferrell was a big disappointment for them last year). I also won't be surprised in the least if Tanner Muse gets on the field more and more as the season goes along.

With Renfrow on offense and Derek Carr likely to "surprise" all the usual suspects who have written him off, I'll be watching the Raiders a fair bit this season.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but Erik Harris is mixed. However I do like him a a lot, grinded in the CFL

We know that, we went over that last season when he was starting. That's why Red Raider said their safeties are 2 3/4 White :)

Ahh I’m stupid I just read it as 3/4 white... I wish that were true
Yeah I didn’t word it very well, but I agree with you I like Harris and his story. The average fan probably thinks he’s white when they see him in the field.

The most devastating news yesterday was the complete breakdown of the Giants WR situation. First it looked like David Sills was in but he broke his foot the second to last day of training camp. The devil made an appearance for that one. Then there was some buzz Alex Bachman, who had a great camp, would slip in. Didn't materialize. LB Ryan Connelly getting cut just added to the overall misery of things. More on them in a minute.

The second worst moment for me was Steelers WR Ryan Switzer getting tossed overboard which must have made the beat writers jump up and down with joy. They wouldn't let up and they got their way. It is official folks. The Steelers are back to their iron clad caste ways.

The third kick in the nuts was the slew of 6th and 7th round white defensive players who got axed. I counted 5 including LB Evan Weaver of the Cardinals. In a league with a plethora of terrible black defenders this really is a kick in the groin.

However I'll leave you with four positives.

No one saw TE Tyler Davis getting drafted much less making a team but that is what this fast TE did with the Jaguars.

Not all is lost with the Giants thank goodness. Swift rookie edge Carter Coughlin made the team! Nice to see. He had a great camp.

While the Saints didn't do us any favors including leaving Swiss army knife rookie Tommy Stevens off their roster there is some excellent news to report on that front.

The Ravens kept QB Trace McSorley as their 3rd QB.

On that theme another Swiss army knife player made his team. Very excited to hear the Cardinals kept Chris Streveler as their 3rd QB. He is being groomed to be their next Taysom Hill.

I would be interested to hear what members thought of the 53 man rosters overall? All in all was it a plus despite the crushing disappointments or was it generally a downer? So far only Don has commented on it and he pretty much gave it a thumbs up.

The main reason I was inspired to write up mini reviews of the teams before the roster selections was I sensed a sliver of optimism this go around. It is hard to buckle down on a project that doesn't have some feel good stuff going on.

Despite the horrid moments I feel a bit pumped up on what went down. There were some really great moments and all in all the purge did not reach monumental heights. In other words there were enough good things that happened where we can hang our hats on. At least that is my take.

Now onto the practice squads watch.

Not even sure why Dobbs is still in the league. Duck Hodges was better than Dobbs has ever been at the NFL level.

I think the Giants are the most disappointing team for me - why they cut Connelly (unless it was due to lingering issues from his ACL injury) is beyond me.

Dobbs is supposedly the "smartest" player in the league. I have my doubts as Fitzmagic nearly scored perfect on his Wonderlic and Tardiff hasn't filed his retirement papers, so maybe he is 3rd smartest. He probably is wanted to be an informal player coach to the sophomore qb.

WR Trey Quinn joined the Jacksonville Jaguars Practice Squad. Too bad last season ended with a concussion on a dirty helmet to helmet hit during a Punt Return!

QB Chris Streveler put up some video game stats in college at FCS South Dakota. Would have enjoyed watching him this pre season!

WOW Evan Weaver got Cut!@

Surely Ryan Switzer will find a new team!

Swiss Army Knife Tommy Stevens Signed on the Saints practice squad...as did LB Joe Bachie. Hybrid Chase Hansen made the Saints 53.....

Give Tanner Muse some time to transition ; he should thrive for the Raiders eventually!

Weaver and Cantrell made the practice squad for Arizona. I have zero doubt Weaver could start tomorrow and hold his own. Just a matter of luck getting to suit up now.
