As the Patriots are notorious, at least on CF, for their terrible drafting, it will be interesting to keep tabs on the respective NFL careers of Wyoming linebackers Logan Wilson (drafted by the Bengals) and Cassh [sic] Maluia. Maluia was a sixth round pick, but New England also took two other linebackers -- Josh Uche in the second round and Anfernee [sic] Jennings in the third. Wilson went early in the third round:

Everyone expected the New England Patriots to draft a Wyoming linebacker. No one knew it would be Cassh Maluia. Prior to the 2020 NFL Draft, Wyoming linebacker Logan Wilson was one of the Patriots’ most popular picks in mocks. New England wound up passing on Wilson to take Renoir-Rhyne safety Kyle Dugger and Michigan linebacker Josh Uche in the second round. But those who watched Wilson carefully prior to the 2020 draft should have been familiar with Maluia, one of the Patriots’ sixth-round picks. Maluia played next to Wilson in the Cowboys’ defense as a three-year starter. Though Maluia wasn’t as highly touted of a prospect as Wilson, he too was an impressive player at Wyoming, and there’s a lot to like about the undersized linebacker’s game. In all of these clips, he’s the player wearing No. 46 with long, flowing black hair. Maluia measured in at 5-foot-11, 231 pounds at his pro day in March. He ran a 4.55-second 40-yard dash with a 1.59-second 10-yard split, 7.16-second 3-cone drill, 4.40-second short shuttle, 33-inch vertical leap and 9-feet, 8-inch broad jump. He immediately enters New England as one of its most athletic linebackers, and his speed shows up on tape. He’s a versatile defender who can drop back in coverage, thump in the middle of the field and make plays moving horizontally from sideline-to-sideline. He wasn’t as productive in college as Wilson, but he did manage 16.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, four interceptions, seven pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles in four seasons.

Another player they should have targeted is the underrated ILB Evan Weaver. Weaver went in the 6th round, after inferior black ILB prospects such as Shaquille Quarterman (4th) and Kamal Martin (5th). Weaver led the nation in tackles with either 181 or 182, depending on your source.

Will Hastings having played with Jarrett Stidham at Auburn could help his chances of being the Patriots' next White slot receiver.

Is Will Hastings the New England Patriots next great slot?
In the tradition of Troy Brown, Wes Welker, Danny Amendola and even Julian Edelman, the New England Patriots are hoping they have found a future slot receiver in Auburn product Will Hastings.

It seems like every year the team brings in a player with that potential.

Over the past few seasons, players like Braxton Berrios and Gunner Olszewski were projected to be that next player to succeed Edelman. While the jury is still out on Olszewski, Mr. Berrios is starting to look like that player with the AFC East rival New York Jets.

With a Hall-of-Fame talent like Julian Edelman getting up there in age, the Patriots have to start thinking about his successor.

Could it be Will Hastings?

While his stats at Auburn doesn’t jump off the stat sheet, his familiarity with projected starter Jarrett Stidham could give both young players that comfort level they need to succeed at each of their positions.

Speaking of positions, Hastings also was a kicker during his freshman and sophomore years at Auburn. That positional versatility will certainly stand out to Bill Belichick. It also means that he is still growing as a wide receiver with his best season in college being the last season in which Jarrett Stidham was his teammate at Auburn.

In that 2017 season, Will Hastings hauled in 26 receptions for 525 yards and four touchdowns.

It is that potential that the New England Patriots are hoping to tap into. With the current depth chart the team currently has at wide receiver and working behind and learning from a player like Julian Edelman could help Hastings make the roster. At the very least a strong practice squad candidate.

Ignore the post above, Hastings has already been cut. Given how in flux the Patriots are, that's an ominous move as far as how the team may look demographically this season.

I guess we should get the 2020 NFL White purge thread started. Just saw Jake Gervase was cut by the Rams too.

Hastings is back on the Pats roster for now. Over the past few days Belichek has been bringing in some more unlimited upsiders. I do hope the whole Scam signing blows up in his face - I think Stidham will start more than a few games this season. The Patriots have a very real chance at finishing last in the AFC East this season.

in reading the article this line stood out "Newton hasn’t been much better recently. Since testing positive for Covid-19, he’s thrown for one touchdown and six interceptions over the last three games." Lol he sucks badly yet they try to make an medical excuse for his shyte play. He just plain sucks as a QB...period.
