White starters from 2005 are 11,13,11,12,11,13,14,13,8,10,11,11,9,8 and 9 last year. This year around 10.

I have always been obsessed with Nebraska. Let's face it. In their state football approaches religious significance. They have been selling out home games since the discovery of electricity. Sadly that will come an end due to COVID.

When Scott Frost was hired three years ago I was skeptical. His approach at UCF was clearly caste but to his credit he has changed up that dreaded formula. I also think a certain ex (famous) head coach has been whispering in his ear. His recruiting patterns lean heavily on attracting white defensive talent which is music to my ears because their great teams were always centered around medieval defenses.

Too bad Frost has relied on hyped QB Martinez who has served as an anchor to the program. He is somehow only a junior. Will the freshman QB back ups emerge this go around? Dual threat Logan Smothers is an exciting talent. And Luke McCaffrey is like his brother Christian with the added value of being able to pass. They have to find away to get this dynamic athlete on the field. World traveler WR Oliver Martin landed on their doorstep. On defense LB JoJo Domann was terrific last year and Will Honas is very solid.

Safety freshman Isaac Gifford was a terrific get and LB Blaise Gunnerson was another recruiting coup. This team is loaded with talented young LB depth.

Frost names his black quarterback pet the starter. He was pretty mediocre last year so hopefully the leash on him is short. Easily one of the most overrated and disappointing players of the last 5 years considering he was hyped up as being the player to turn around the Nebraska program.

Nebraska junior QB Adrian Martinez will battle Luke McCaffrey for the starting quarterback job in practice this week.
Martinez (6'2/225) was effective on the ground against Northwestern on Saturday, posting his second straight game with at least 85 yards and 13 carries. However his passing acumen was sorely lacking as he completed just 44 percent of his passes for an average of 4.6 yards per attempt. His woeful inaccuracy led to him getting pulled in favor of backup Luke McCaffrey in the fourth quarter, who promptly completed 12-of-16 passes for 93 yards while rushing eight times for 49 yards on the ground. While McCaffrey was clearly more effective than Martinez, he threw a costly interception off of his offensive lineman's helmet late in the fourth quarter that bounced right into a defender's hands and ended Nebraska's hopes of winning. HC Scott Frost indicated whichever quarterback that practices best this week will be named the starter when the Cornhuskers take on fellow winless Big Ten program Penn State on Saturday.

Having Luke at qb makes Nebraska a must watch for me.....

Frost gave him the keys in the fourth quarter last week, but the kid came up short, as the article states.....His running numbers could have been a lot better....I remember there being a bad snap and he had to take a big loss. Too big of a talent to be rotting on a bench,

Nebraska also has Ty Robinson on the interior so +1 for them. He should end up being really good.

They're up to 12 with McCaffrey and Robinson and Riemer in place of Honas.

The school website states that WR Oliver Martin must sit out the 2020 season due to transfer regulations. I was under the impression that he was walking on without a scholarship, which was supposed to preclude that restriction. Maybe he still arrived at Nebraska too late in the calendar year.

Martin was a state champ swimmer and famously the commitment that made buffoon Jim Harbaugh jump in a pool fully-clothed. Martin was run off at Michigan within two weeks of black OC Josh Gattis' first spring practices. I was surprised that he didn't stick at Iowa for whatever reason.

I remember seeing clips of Martin catching passes on the high school camp circuit from Luke's older brother Dylan McCaffrey. I looked forward to that connection continuing at the college level. It would be fun to see it happen with Luke, even if we have to wait another season. I'm sure Oliver has brought it up to him in practices.

I have to wonder when Gattis is going to start getting some criticism. IMO he misused Shea Patterson during his time as starter. Call me crazy, call me delusional but the Patterson I saw as a freshman for Ole Miss was a very different player than the one that ended up starting at Michigan. Michigan is the perfect example of the shortcomings of the caste system so it's nice to see the stumble of out the gate.

Ideally Martin will have two years of eligibility left and a fair shot at some playing time next year. This year is a wash since it does not count against a players eligbility. I want to see Frost pull the plug on Martinez and let Luke McCaffrey finish this season to get experience for next year. Still curious to see where Dylan ends up - I feel that Gattis played a role in his departure from UM.

They way things are going anyone with a lack of a dark enough natural tan will be shunned and held down no matter how talented they are! This a smart move by these guys. Maybe McCaffrey ends up on Stanford. That would be cool. Even
at the U of A he could be an immediate contributor as they rebuild their team from the disaster that just ended with them finally firing Coach Sumlin.
