Since 2005, Iowa State has started 14, 12, 8, 9, 6, 11, 10, 11, 10, 9, 5, 6, 11, 9, and 9 white starters. In 2020 they look to jump back up to 10.

This will be an exciting team to watch in 2020. Brock Purdy and Charlie Kolar could both very well declare for the draft after this season and all 10 OL on the 2-deep will be white guys.

On defense Mike Rose returns as one of the best linebackers in the country, along with new starters Tucker Robertson and Jake Hummel (36 tackles, 4.5 TFL, pick six in 2019). Zach Petersen has a chance to start again but I don't think he will with an injured former starter returning, although he should see the field plenty (41 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 2 sacks in 2019).

If super fast WR Landen Akers can earn a role and Zach Petersen becomes a starter I will be rooting for the Cyclones for every game except one.

Players to watch:
QB Hunter Dekkers, QB Aiden Bouman, TE Chase Allen, TE Dylan Soehner, WR Landen Akers, OT Grant Trieber, C Derek Schweiger, OT Jake Remsburg, OG Jarrod Hufford, DT Tucker Robertson

OFFENSE
QB Brock Purdy (JR)
TE Charlie Kolar (JR)
LT Sean Foster (SR)
LG Trevor Downing (SO)
C Colin Newell (JR)
RG Robert Hudson (JR)
RT Joey Ramos (JR)

DEFENSE
DE Zach Petersen (JR)
LB Mike Rose (JR)
LB Jake Hummel (SR)

Thanks Red raider. I think their HC Matt Campbell is a rising star but I was hoping for a quicker conversion away from caste. But we are seeing some fruits start to emerge. I think the key number is at least three when it comes to having white starters on defense and they have hit that watermark. Biggest regret is they never developed speedster WR Akers and with only one season left time is running out.

Purdy to Kolar is one of the best combinations in the game. Purdy is a fun player to watch and honestly overlooked QB nationally. I'll be honest and say that I have not followed him as closely as I should be. He's got glimpses of Manziel in his game but has a better head on his shoulders.

Agreed Looking forward to both him and Ehlinger from Texas. I haven't paid as much attention to them as I should.

Updated to show that Zach Petersen is starting at DE, instead of Tucker Robertson starting at DT like expected he is actually Petersen’s backup.
