A first for me. I cannot ever recall a Saturday with such a lackluster TV lineup. What an awful TV lineup of games. I guess the Notre Dame game and maybe the early Oklahoma State game are the "highlights" if you will but for the second straight week ABC is putting on another caste affair as Louisville battles Miami in prime time no less.
Two other factors make matters worse. First ESPN is so beholden to their ACC Network ( which isn't even available where I live) that they can't improvise and put the Wake-NC State game on an ESPN station?
Clemson plays a little guy but heck it's Clemson put them on anyway?
And the COVID undertow is still causing some havoc on the schedule. Five games have been cancelled or postponed this weekend including Baylor's opener against Houston. We knew about BYU and Army being shelved with a make up date in mind but North Carolina will not makeup their canceled game against Charlotte.
I'll be blunt. This has been a crappy start to the season. I thought most of the games last week were lackluster and it is hard to get excited about tomorrow's TV lineup which features a lot of non Power 5 teams. I'm sure there will be some good bits here and there but this does not feel like an ordinary Saturday in September.
Chalk it up to growing pains during difficult times but cripes things need to pick up and soon. Hell the Big Ten doesn't start in over a month from now and the SEC still hasn't started. I suspect over time things will get ironed out and these dreaded postponements will finally stop occurring. And I also believe the Big Ten roll out will go much smoother. But in the meantime these opening college football moments have not been so great. At least that's how I see it and I am a diehard.
