White is right do you have any thoughts why Shubenkov was in the outside lane where nobody ever wins a race? I didn't hear the announcers give a reason.
He probably finished 2nd in his heat. If you don't win your heat you get the less advantageous lanes.

In hurdling though sometimes being on the outside isn't too bad as there can be bad spills affecting multiple hurdlers.

PS, I found this amusing gong show dq of the Chinese female short sprint relay team. One runner didn't even know the exchange zone rules, this is stuff you learn in grammar school....

Just read a New York Times piece that claimed these Championships were a "disaster." Crowds were bare thin throughout and there were heat issues throughout. Many female marathon runners were gassed beyond normal levels.

Surprised that the 4 x 400M relays have not been mentioned here.

I believe all four Belgium runners were white and they nabbed a Bronze. Very impressive. I believe that is the first medal for Belgium in the 4 x 400M.

Even more impressive? The Poland women who won a silver in the 4 x 400M relays.

As for the jumping events whites were shut out in the TJ.

In the LJ a white woman garnered a silver--Maryna Bekh Romanchuk.

And as reported earlier two Russian men bagged the silver and bronze in the HJ.

The women put up even better results as two white women grabbed the gold and silver. Mariya Lasitskene won gold and 18 year old Yaroslava Mahuchikh bagged silver.

So four out of the top six leapers in the world are white.

I'm in love with the Womens Polish 4 x 400 Relay Team. Everyone of them is stunning. Beautiful does not even begin to describe it. Then they kick ass too!

Historically on the men's side Eastern Europeans have been dominant in the triple jump, the GOAT is Saneyev who competed for the USSR and was a Georgian national. Poles have won Olympic titles and medals too, and of course the world record is still held by Brit Johnathan Edwards.

I remember years ago Epstein types used to explain away the success of Eastern Europeans at the triple jump by noting it was very technical and that was why guys like Saneyev won 3 Olympic titles and won a silver in the twilight of his career. But lately the cupboard has been bare in the triple jump and Whites have won more medals in the long jump which is deemed "more athletic".

Yes the IAAF World Championships have no business in Qatar, supposedly the robust and loud East African fans were cabbies, laborers and servants working in Qatar aside from those people the crowd was sparse and looked disinterested, except when Afro-Arab Barshim jumped.

I expect a similar scene in Saudi Arabia when Ruiz and Joshua duel in the desert in December.

speaking of Saneyev -

"In the early 1990s, after the Soviet Union broke up and a civil war started in Georgia, Saneyev lost his job, and moved to Australia with his wife and 15-year-old son. His brief coaching contract soon expired, and Saneyev was about to sell his Olympic medals to feed his family. He reconsidered at the last moment and took odd jobs instead, such as pizza delivery. He finally found a regular job as a physical education teacher at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill, and later as the jumping coach at the New South Wales Institute of Sport.[12][13]"

He's 74 now but even when I was competing as a masters athlete (circa 2005 so he was 60 then) he had to use a walking stick, such was the state of his body through years of jumps.

I am doing sprints, javelin, discus and shot put. I may give up shot put as I am 5'9" and can't compete with the 6'4" dudes lol I do okay in discus and javelin as it is more speed and technique. Sprint wise I am focusing on the 50/100/200m outdoor and the 60m/200m indoor. I have had a hell of a time in the last few years with hamstring tweaks and Achilles tweaks though. No real pulls just tweaks. I dropped my weight from 209 to 180 which has helped.
