I feel badly for Gemili. He is just outside the medals again. Is the 3rd time now?
I can't help but wonder if he would have medaled if he had skipped the 100m altogether. Poor guy.

I recall a tight 5th a few years back and he now has had one near dead heat 4th and this tight 4th. He may be a guy who never wins an individual world medal(he does have relay gold though), or he could be a guy who breaks through late.

One thing he has going for him is he is still only 25, he's just been at the world class level for 7 years, so he seems much older than he is.....

Shubenkov snagged a silver and seemed to be the benefactor of another hurdling stumble as the Mulatto "Spaniard" was in second place in the final before the McLeod stumble into his lane. Allen and the Cypriot national Trajkovic were never factors in the race and finished 7th and 8th.

In the women's 400 hurdles Sage Watson set a pb and a new Canadian record, she will be in tough for a medal as Muhammad, and the striking Mclaughlin look like locks for gold and silver, so she will be in a dogfight with Clayton and the veterans Henjova and Sprunger for bronze.

Happy to see Shubenkov get the silver. I hate how the cocky the american was looking back at him showboating. Not cool but Sergey will be back next summer at the olympics. He already has a gold medal and
now today adding the silver at another major champs. I still think he is the favorite at next years olympics. Love watching Shubenkov compete. He is amazing!
 
I still cant figure out why Lalova-Collio went to the 200m when the 100m is her better event. I was happy she made the final but she tanked in the final, I guess running clean has its disadvantages. Her season best time of 11.07/8 was as good as 96% of the rest yet she doesn't run it in Doha.

Watching Asher-Smith I have to say again I think she is doping as she admitted she was extremely tired yet she runs a sick 21.88 200m final and sets a new National record on extremely fatigued legs.... am I seeing something that ain't there?

The 200 is usually slightly easier to place higher and isn't as hard on a older athletes body. I can't see her being a serious doper as her career trajectory isn't one of a doper. She exploded on the scene at around 20 when she came 4th at the Olympics and since then she has slowly gotten slower with slightly lower places at majors. She's still had quite a career but after watching her come 4th I figured she could have snagged a bronze somewhere.

As for Smith she isn't crazy muscular like the Yamaican women, aside from her times I don't see it, if she keeps up this form for years without a dip or virtually no dip then it would be obvious ie the current 100m champion.
 
I can't see Asher-Smith as a doper at all. She was an exceptional junior who has put in many years of work to get this far.
She was awe-struck by Dafne in 2014 (I saw her interviewed after she raced her on several occasions) and has slowly improved year upon year. Reaching her peak now.

She was the third fastest of all time and the top two are known dopers, she competes for a corrupt country that uses oil money to keep the despotic rule of a klan in tact. Is this country going to be serious about doping? This is also a country that has violated contracts with their passport Arabs and not payed them or out right stolen their money. Uibo was literally destroyed by the might mite and she ran the 5th fastest time of all time....

PS, getting off this negative note, Long live the king, the king is dead, from one German to the next Kevin Mayer(ethnic German) relinquished his title to a 21 year old phenom Niklas Kaul who had an epic javelin toss to take the lead in the decathlon. He then cemented the lead in the 1500 meters by destroying the other contenders and winning his heat.

A classic duel with a healthy Mayer is a strong probability off of this result in Tokyo 2020.

A new world record was set in the women's 400m hurdles, Muhammad was chased to the line by McGlaughlin and sliced a few 100ths of her record she set earlier this summer. Sage Watson seemed to leave her best race back in the semi final, I don't know whether she panicked when she saw Muhammad passing her before the straight or not gaining on on her competitors who were on the outer staggers. Either way Watson had nothing coming into the straight away, even the bronze medalist was over second back of the two front runners, here's the race....

PS, in the men's high jump Afro-Arab Barshim won in front of the home crowd but two Russians came 2nd and 3rd.

Watson can certainly try and follow McGlaughlin‘s example, as in you can look good and be fast at the same time. Finishing dead last is disappointing, but for some perspective, this is the final of a world championship race, it’s a notable achievement just to make it that far. Problem is, she was sixth two years ago, so this is actually a step back.

It’s been mostly a garden variety championships. Blacks dominating all the sprints, as well as East African blacks taking all the middle distance races. Whites doing pretty well in all the infield events. The only other bright spots were Warholm and Kaul, unless something happens in the 1500m races tomorrow.

Yes the "usual" pattern of medals seems to be back, but I still noticed Yamaican medals in the short sprints are now going back to America which makes more sense than a country the size of a mid sized world city sweeping medals and near sweeping medals in the short sprints on both the men's and women's sides. The Yams have such poor depth that the men's relay team bombed out in the short sprint relay.

Great Britain probably will win a medal in the short sprint relay on the men's side and one of China or Japan should win a medal and if the US has another horrid exchange, both might win. On the women's side Germany has the world's fastest time and won a medal at the world relay championships but they looked terrible in the heats and were lucky to make the final.

She is/was the crown jewel of his training team. She was doing what Dibaba did a few years ago when she set the mile world record. A White American came 4th, if the drug testing becomes better she may get bumped to third or even silver.

that was the greatest Shot Put competition of all time.
Poor old Tom Walsh with his 22.90m first put might have done himself a disservice. He was all out after that elusive 23m and never got in another legal Put.
 
Even better the Great Britain Mens 4 X 100 Relay Team wins the silver medal with the fastest time in European History! They ran a time of 37.36!

UPdate: I just watched the British relay men interviewed. They were very happy to get this result up against the new American record team.
Confirmation about Kilty's slight hiccup before taking off with the baton - Zharnel Hughes pulled his hamstring just before the exchange - making their time even more noteworthy. A great European record and faster than any U.S. team till this race. Only the Jamaicans have run faster

Yes sir I'm especially happy for the both of them. Richard Kilty was the GB Team Captain and he has worked so hard over the last decade. Gemeli seems alot older and has had so many heart breaks on the track missing medals by 100ths of a second.

Nice to see Japan take the bronze medal as the world continues to shatter stereotypes. Yes Jon Entine, your an idiot. Some humans are fast of every ethnicity! That book he wrote is so full of absolute crap
about whites, asians, hispanics,etc. In his deluded mind only blacks can be fast. There are many fast people of every color!
 
Glad for Kilty and Gemili finally seeing their perseverance and hard work pay off, although without the other two this doesn't happen for them yesterday. Sad to see the Chinese women falter on the last handoff as they were going well and could have possibly gotten third.

I have been perusing social media in regards to Hassan's and SFP's and Nassim's achievements and it seems no one is even suspicious??? Wow the world is blind or wants so bad to see Blacks at the top they turn a huge blind eye.

Men's shotput was one for the ages. Down to the last put!!

Sidenote: these men are fricken huge!! I have had the opportunity to converse with Dylan Armstrong(retired) on a few occasions and he is a gigantic human being!!

White is right do you have any thoughts why Shubenkov was in the outside lane where nobody ever wins a race? I didn't hear the announcers give a reason.
