2019 Track Season News and Results

I too like Tortu and think he will go sub 9.90 as well. I also believe Matthew Boling will be faster as I believe he has more untapped athletic potential. He with the right coach and no injuries will go sub 10 with a legal wind this season and possibly sub 9.90 next year. Boling has achieved his times with a HS coach, Tortu has the best coaches in Italy. BUT what a gift to have such a deep pool of amazing white 100/200/400m sprinters to watch. Watching Warholm run makes me believe in Vikings again

Guliyev competed at the European Club Championships this weekend. A walk in the park for him.
100m (2.0) 1 Ramil Guliyev (tur) 10.16; 2 Dominik Zalesky (cze) 10.29; 3 Kyle De Escofet (gbr) 10.30,
200m (0.8) 1 Ramil Guliyev (tur) 20.32;

Meanwhile, Devin Quinn ran 10.17 (0.9) for 2nd in his heat at the NCAA Regionals.

Guliyev was easily beaten in the 200m today, and his time was just average, 20.40.
Very surprising since he has already run sub-20 this year.
Meanwhile Dafne Schippers got crushed in the 200m. She has to put a stop to her regression.

On the positive side, Thobias Montler of Sweden set a PB (8.22 meters) to beat a top notch field.
And Karsten Warholm won the 400m hurdles in 47.85.

Thobias Montler is a very exciting prospect in the long jump to go along with the kid from Greece. Montler has had jumps over 8.60 just barely over
the board from what I've heard. Glad to see him get a huge win in the diamond league against the best of the best long jumpers in the world.

another caste breaker -
Lalu Zohri, another wonderful Asian prospect from a little island in the Indonesian archipeligo. Last year won the world under 20 champs beating the Americans into 2nd and 3rd place - as a reward the president sent builders of every craft to renovate his home.
Well he just ran 10.03 (1.7) and still a month short of 19.
He was luckily spotted just running around playing team games and was offered coaching and his keep in Djakarta.
He may run sub 10 this season and perhaps before his 19th birthday or at just 19

I watched Schippers 200m race several times and she gassed at about 150m, she tightens up badly, I can only think her speed stamina workouts are not good enough? I am seriously worried for her.

Schippers was a better sprinter when she trained as a heptathlete. She had a lot of strength and ran her competitors down in the 200m. Now she fades at the end.
Karsten Warholm trained as a decathlete and used that base to become one of the top 400m hurdles.
Based on Schippers' and Warholm's successes, I had been wondering if training for the multi-events, gave them more speed endurance than regular sprinters.

I've thought she was on a downward trend since 2 years ago and I'm not about to change my opinion. I don't think she'll dominate again ..... she'll still be good but her time at the top has crested

Sadly to say I agree unless she drastically changes her training routine. She gets winded in far too many races. Especially over 200 meters.

I still think of Lemaitre and what more he could have accomplished with the proper mental and physical mind set? He was babied too much. Still
a huge fan but sad he never came close to what I imagined might have been possible. He has so much natural genetic talent. Every summer I hope
he can prove us all wrong but deep down inside I know his best days are long gone!

yep, well he's 29 now and what has he to prove? 200m bronze medals in the worlds and Olympics is a great career.
AS for Dafne, she's just about to turn 27 and has possibly lost that initial enthusiasm and fire in the belly.
Both have given us here great times of joy and we must look to the future.
I'm not saying Dafne is finished but she's gone back to the pack

20 yr old Marvin Schulte from Germany ran 10.23 (1.5w) this weekend to beat Julian Reus (10.30) and some of the old guard from Germany.

Somebody had mentioned Aaron Sexton (18 yrs old) of Northern Ireland.
He recently won the All (Irish) Schools Championships in record times.
Unfortunately, he too, will be pursuing a rugby career.

very hard to ignore team sports where comraderie exists and a decent pay packet. There's virtually no-one in my country who can make a living from T&F. Sally Pearson and Dani Samuels
who are consistently high achievers in world meets can, but a once only 10.10 guy has no chance.

News from Emile, he is leaving for Hengelo on Wednesday. He has a lane at the IAAF world challenge on the 9th. Rehab on his hammie is done and he is good to go. Looking forward to some exciting times this year.

Guliyev will beat Tortu over 200m if he is healthy, over 100m I would think it would be much closer. Here's hoping they go 1-2

on general 200 ability there's few can match Guliyev in top 200 form. He has been ill with a virus though so I guess it depends what that took from him.

Remember ..world aren't until September ...long season ...still think schippers will be there at 200 when it counts .....and obviously guliyev will be there when it counts ...... I still feel lemaitre has something left ....and obviously tortu will be big this season .........anybody here anything about John teeters ....hope both he goes to usatf s....also Devon Quinn to make a 100 final in the ncaas .....if he can pb again he has a real chance of a medal ......Quinn has some real mental fortitude , something unusual for an American sprinter since Wariner in his pomp .....and I do hope Quinn goes pro ,,,he should he has the talent .. .......also I reckon it would be interesting to see boling run at the usatf s ....hhhmmmm...( obvious

He played his last rugby game in 2010. Never was his passion though!
