Since 2005, Rice has started 14, 14, 8, 10, 11, 10, 12, 14, 11, 10, 12, 9, 10 and 12 whites. In 2018 they are projected to have 10 white starters.

Players to look out for include Harvard transfer QB Tom Stewart, TE Robert French, WR Brad Rozner, WR Zane Knipe, DT Cameron Valentine, LB Dylan Silcox, LB Dylan James, LB Garrett Grammer

Rice has high academic standards and historically have featured more white players than the average. No question. Rice would not look out of place in the Ivy League.

They have also been a sub par team for ages although they did manage to go 8-5 in 2014. A rare sight.

Still they have had some fine white athletes over the years. WR Jordan Taylor who is fighting for a roster spot with the Vikings readily comes to mind.

This season they sport the Daily Double. Which means they start two white wide receivers and a white cornerback. Any team with this kind of roster set up is grade A in my book.

The WR depth is promising as well. 6'5" Rozner is a JC transfer.

Mostly though keep an eye on former high school sprinter with 4.4 speed true freshman WR Zane Knipe.

Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel reports that former TCU redshirt junior QB Michael Collins will transfer to Rice.
Collins (6'5/214) reportedly entered the transfer portal near the end of November. He played sparingly during the 2019 season, ultimately seeing the field in just two games. the now-former Horned Frogs signal-caller played more extensively in 2018, ultimately throwing for 1,059 yards (56.4% completions) with a 6/2 TD/INT ratio across eight games. While Collins might not be the most exciting of transfer gets, he'll provide a veteran presence in the quarterbacks rooom for HC Mike Bloomgren's Rice rebuild in 2020.

Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus ranks Rice senior WR Austin Trammell the top returning player for the Owls for the 2020 season.
Trammell (5'10/182) has been a solid performer for the Owls the last two seasons; accruing 60 catches each year and scoring seven touchdowns. Where the wideout has been most effective is operating out of the slot, as Treash notes PFF ranked him 26th of 127 qualified wideouts from the position. "When you consider that only 65% of his targets in the slot were catchable a season ago — the seventh-worst figure among receivers to see at least 50 targets in the slot — Trammell’s performance is that much more impressive," the analyst writes. If the Owls can get decent quarterback play this fall, Trammell could be even more effective. Obvious point is obvious, but it's still worth pointing out.

Good news Trammell has definitely flown under my radar. Very productive Slot WR prospect. Rice needs to win more games, a few more pale faces on Defense might help

Hopefully Michael Collins wins the QB competition - he should help Trammell's productivity.

Yes indeed Leonardfan! Austin Trammell was a good bet to be in the Weekly Recap last season; with some quality stats!

The 5'-`10" Trammell made for a nice 1 - 2 punch at WR with 6'-5" Brad Rozner last season...Michael Collins should be a good bet to win the QB job.
