Since 2005, Northwestern has started 12, 13, 15, 14, 15, 16, 15, 11, 11, 11, 12, 9, 11 and 10 Whites. They are projected to start 12 white athletes in 2019 (14 if you count the Miller brothers who are white/asian).

Hunter Johnson could be poised to take the Big Ten by storm. A big time QB recruit who decided to transfer to Northwestern after losing out to Trevor Lawrence in Clemson. Really excited to see him play in 2019 for the Wildcats. Look for reps to be split between Johnson and TJ Green - but hopefully Johnson becomes the full time starter early in the season.

The defense is full of playmakers - Paddy Fisher is the best LB in the Big Ten and probably the nation, Joe Gaziano is a great DE and should be an early round pick in 2020, Blake Gallagher is an uber productive athletic LB.

This is the team we should all get behind here.

Players to look out for include QB TJ Green, WR/PR Riley Lees, SB Charlie Mangieri, DT Trevor Kent, DT Joe Spivak, LB Peter McIntyre, S Joe Bergin,

Offense -
QB - Hunter Johnson / TJ Green
SB - Trey Pugh (Superback)
WR - Bennett Skoworek
LG - Nik Urban
RG - Sam Stovall
RT - Gunnar Vogel

Defense -
DE - Joe Gaziano
DT - Jake Saunders
DT - Alex Miller*
DE - Sam Miller*
LB - Paddy Fisher
LB - Blake Gallagher
LB - Chris Bergin ** in a position battle
DB - Travis Whillock

Excellent! I too am looking forward to seeing Hunter Johnson get playing time and developing. I remember him from his recruitment days and the disappointment we felt when he chose Clemson.

I’m curious when we tally up the most White-friendly teams in the country and how many of them will come from the Big 10 or the Midwest more generally...

Great breakdown Leonardfan.

This team hits the spot. Two purple people eating teams to root for in Northwestern and the Vikings.

Nothing to add other than junior Riley Lees has a lot of get up and go so expect more involvement from him this season.

And I agree with the above comments. Out of all the QBs in college I am most anxious to see Hunter Johnson. Built like a modern day QB a mad scientist would create in a lab and try to clone, Johnson is an elite athlete that can run like the dickens and throw the ball with ease.

The guy looks like superman in a football uniform. Those crazed Northwestern fans are going to love Johnson.

And if you don't like the way LBs Paddy Fisher and Blake Gallagher play football then you simply don't like football.

The depth chart came out and it's a great one.
WR Riley Lees beat out JJ Jefferson for the slot receiver role. Chris Bergin won the starting SAM linebacker spot and Trevor Kent is starting at DT. Officially this team will be at 15 including the Miller brothers. Incredible.

Must watch TV with their shiny new QB and all those honkies? Who can resist. I get the Big Ten network but that doesn't mean I will get a chance to watch all of their games. They often telecast two Big Ten games at the same time so it will depend on luck I'm guessing for some of the games.

They open at Stanford and the first half of their schedule is a bear with Michigan State Wisconsin and Ohio State. They avoid both Michigan and Penn State.

See their schedule below and mark your calendars.

Alright Northwestern! Their opening game against Stanford should be a dandy, and i think they will win.

Former Indiana redshirt senior QB Peyton Ramsey transferred to Northwestern.
Though Ramsey (6'2/216) started for the better part of three years at Indiana, a shake up at QB last season seems to have forced Ramsey out for his final year of play. Michael Penix Jr., who was a freshman last season, evidently unseated Ramsey moving forward. As such, Ramsey made the decision to transfer about six weeks ago and landed in a spot that will give him zero issues in competing for a starting job: Northwestern. Northwestern was arguably the worst non-option team at passing the ball last year, so Ramsey should be able to fit right into the starting role. Ramsey threw 42 TDs to 23 INTs in three years at Indiana.

Hunter Johnson disappointed last year big time. Ramsey I felt was pretty disrespect at Indiana - the coach their giving a black quarterback the job outright when Ramsey was just as good in 2018 and performed well in 2019. Fitzgerald needs to clean up the offense but Ramsey is a boost in my opinion.

Agreed Ramsey was definitely disrespected and replaced for a more "exciting" QB to take over at Indiana.

It really was surprising how had NU was last season. Their offense has been anemic last few season's, they definitely needed to can their longtime OC.

Even more surprising was how much Johnson struggled! I, like you, thought he was poised for a big season. Now he'll be facing stiff competition with Ramsey.
