Those Patriots offensive juggernauts of the past decade are not coming back. That was an amazing collection of white talent that came together at the right time and indeed put on clinics and made opposing teams look silly.

It doesn’t matter if they bring in some quality weapons to rebuild that side of the ball, a 43 year old Tom Brady cannot be expected to lead some high-powered offense, not to mention a 34 year old Julian Edelman with some serious miles and battle scars under his belt.

The only way the Pats can win another SB with Tom Brady in the next 1-2 years is if they had a world class defense, I’m talking ‘85 Bears or 2000 Baltimore, something like that. A defense that given 10-14 points, will do the rest and win games for you. I don’t see that happening.

It was a lot fun watching this team over the years. Now they’ll turn into just another caste NFL franchise. Amazing to think they had Brady, Gronk, Edelman, Burkhead, Amendola, Hogan, Welker, Woodhead, and so many white offensive lineman dominating on offense for as long as they did.

Maybe that's why Belichick beefed up the defense maybe neglected the offense a bit. He had seen that Brady had aged into more of a game manager in the last couple years so the Pats needed a stingier defense to help him out. With the salary cap it's hard to be dominant on both sides of the line.

The Pats just weren't near as fun to watch this year.

The Pats got rid of Amendola for D.Thomas, Harry for Hogan and Gronk for Ben Watson which turned them from SB winners to a 1 and done wildcard weekend team

I guess those sneaky athletic underachievers deserve more credit than what they got.

it looks to me like the 6 pointed owners are on their way to having a negrofest for the SB. Bad play calling by Buffalo and New England especially Buffalo in the 4th, suspect officiating...hmmmmm

A few observations from watching the 2 games yesterday, in addition to all the fine points made already.

Buffalo and Josh Allen are good but not yet ready for the prime time. When they needed a big play, the defense couldn’t tackle and Allen made some really questionable decisions. This really falls on McDermott and his staff to coach up Allen. He’s got all the tools so he’ll go as far as his coaches and their schemes can take them.

Speaking of McDermott, I’d give him a failing grade for his coaching in the 2nd half. In the 1st half he played loose and took chances to win. The reverse / wide receiver pass to Allen for the TD was a prime example. Came out and punched Houston in the nose. Then in the 2nd half with a comfy lead, they go to a very vanilla offense which allowed Houston to weasel their way back. Overall McDermott has got to get better as a coach and the GM needs to get some more talented White athletes. The offensive line especially needs an upgrade from all the un-athletic, obese, sluggish sumos they have.

As far as Houston goes, they dodged a bullet having to go to Baltimore but I can’t really picture them being competitive in KC either. They don’t really impress in any facet of the game. Watson throws a decent ball but he’s often running around like a headless chicken. I don’t see that working against the elite teams and I also see a big regression for the Texans next year as Jacksonville, Tennessee and Indianapolis could all be improved.

Which leads to Tennessee, who are on an impressive roll with Tannehill and Henry playing at an elite level. If they can get Humphries back healthy next week to go along with Firkser then they become palatable in the atrocious AFC. Vrable however should be ashamed to roster a defense with zero Whites. What a sellout. Anyway, I actually like the Titans’ chances of upsetting Baltimore better than either Buffalo or Houston. If they can run the ball heavily and jump out to an early lead, Jackson will be out of his element as a passer.

On to NE, the former CF darling. Watching the game you could really feel that this is a shell of what we all loved. Like a tv show that was great but went a few seasons too long and lost key cast members. Bill B for all his genius was foolish for assembling a majority sumo line over the last 3 or 4 drafts. That coupled with bringing in low IQ negro wideouts who clearly cannot run the crisp routes that Brady has come to expect over the course of his career. Also, ignoring talented White tight ends in past drafts was either arrogant or dumb. Guys like Watson, LaCosse and Izzo are frankly not suitable replacements for Gronk. I guess it was more important to waste draft picks on random defensive blacks every draft??

Not to pile on Thielen, but you tuck the ball on the sideline side of the field. Taught my sons that in elementary school. Had he done that, he probably wouldn't have fumbled.

Good post my friend. Josh Allen has some things to clean up on but he was far from the sole reason they lost. The playcalling got stale and the Bills played not to lose in the 2nd half. Beasley became non-existent. In reading comments on other sites it seems a few posters just have some vendetta against Josh Allen - one commenter referred to him as "Trash Allen". I did not expect the Bills to be in the playoffs this year so it was a pleasant surprise. I look forward to watching Allen in Buffalo for many years.

N'Keal Harry is the poster boy for Belichek's bad draft record and should bear a good deal of the blame for the failed season along with the Patriots personnel folks. Some laughable analysis from the supposed experts who were applauding the pic back in April:

Pete Prisco and Steven Ruiz were the two who actually avoided lauding the pick as some sort of instant upgrade.

Yep they think they're fooling people with his 6 pass attempts. I can only remember 1 of them happening when the game was actually on the line.

They were both caught off guard but a safety plays more in run support. If that were a regular option play Smith would be ready to make a play, how often is that true of the corner? The cb should have stayed with his guy

Glad to see Thielen looking a little better out there. Cousins has been very sharp so far.

Taysom Hill is amazing. The guy can play so many different positions. I would love to see what he could do a running back or even qb for a whole season.
