Ryan Shazier suffered a significant neck injury but is rehabbing and will be able to live a normal life. The only players I can think of who were paralyzed are Mike Utley and Darryl Stingley. Utley was a Lions guard who was injured in a freak play in 1991; Stingley's misfortune is much better known from when Jack Tatum launched into him in a 1978 preseason game, back when d-backs were allowed to be missiles and Tatum was as badass as any of them. So that's two very serious injuries in the past 40 years that I can recall, none since '91. But the last rites ritual still takes place multiple times every Sunday. This video of an old Sports Center shows Utley's injury beginning at 4:08 followed by a brief clip of Stingley's:

Also in 1992, Jets defensive lineman Dennis Byrd was paralyzed. I believe he collided head first with the opposite defensive end while both were diving to sack the quarterback.

I forgot about Byrd, who was a really good lineman. He did eventually walk again before sadly dying at the young age of 50 as the result of a car crash. The Jets retired his number 90. And yes, he collided with fellow d-lineman Scott Mersereau. The Jets employed lots of White d-linemen in the '80s (the famous "Sack Exchange") and into the early '90s, Mark Gastineau being the best known.

As a huge lacrosse fan I’m very excited about this. Lions promoted WR Tom Kennedy to the active roster! He is a former professional lacrosse player. He played slot and returned punts in the preseason.

Danny Amendola is inactive due to injury. Edelman and Burkhead are both active but Edelman may see limited snaps, Rex also.

Fox first piece on Mahomes, 2nd on Watson. Switch over to CBS and Burelson thinks Dak can break Brees season completion percentage record.

Connelly with an INT!

Negative we might be forced to see Haskins soon.

First drive and Giants’ rookie Ryan Connelly picks off the redskins. The ball deflected off the receiver. It’s Connelly’s second interception already and he’s getting good press from the NY media. Hopefully he sticks as a starter.

TD catch by Hockensen
Hockensen un-covered by the Chiefs all-chocolate defense. Supa-affletic rookie free safety Thornhill looks lost out there. But hey, he “looks” better than Sorensen.

Speaking of Sorensen, he just made a tackle on punt coverage after a more athletic teammate missed. Sorensen in his “proper” place as a WSTD.

Watching the Panthers reminds me of the Patriots +1, however QB Allen has fumbled twice stalling two drives.
Allen, McCaffrey, Olsen and Hogan were in all at once. White QB, RB, WR, and TE. Wow!

Not mentioned earlier, rookies TE Foster Moreau out of LSU had a 18 yard touchdown for Oakland. He’s got another catch as well. Hunter Renfrow also has a catch making Oakland far more palatable than the Black Colts and BBQ Brissett. Oakland leading 21-10.

Black supremacist Vontaze Burfict ejected for an absolute cheap headhunting shot on a defenseless Jack Doyle and laughs as he gets escorted off the field

Burfict is a criminal thug who in a just society would be in prison.

Unrelated, CMac with a rushing touchdown. Having a big day receiving as well!

The Blank Canvas with a whopping 34 yards passing in an entire half of football. On the other side of the field, The Anonymous Tackling Machine has 8 tackles already. Ho hum.

I have to say, I've always been impressed with the announcing of Ronde Barber. He's very complimentary of all players. Really fair to Kyle Allen and he's constantly talking about the greatness of CMac. Also, not afraid to criticize black players. He called out Carolina safety getting burned almost costing the Panthers a TD.
Also, called out Carolina CB Cockrell for dropping a sure INT.

Burkhead's foot must still be bothering him as he's had only one touch that I've seen.

John Simon just sacked Josh Allen

It’s time to forget the previous great Redskins QBs. The soon-to-be incomparable Haskins is in the game.

First time watching Allen of Buffalo. Even though he has bad numbers in this game, the talent is clearly there. He has an absolute cannon for an arm and is a great strong runner. Hell of a catch by Knox as well ( a guy I’d never even heard of until last week).
