Per my recollection, the first player that did this, in a high profile way, was Emmett Smiff, in the mid-1990's, when he was chasing Riggins rushing TD's record (for a single season). Every time he scored a rushing TD (even a 1 yarder), he came charging back to the sidelines firmly clutching the ball, then carefully giving it to a trainer, to make sure he safely marked it and saved it. Not sure why Emmett did this, perhaps he intended to the sell balls at some point for profit? I agree, it is sort of annoying, unless it's special TD -- first of a players career; a record breaker, Super Bowl TD?
This is, by far, the worst high profile broadcasting team in NFL history. Tessitore should go back to his roots and start covering the Hartford Whalers, again? Okay, I guess that's not possible. But reality is ESPN canned a great play-by-play man (who did the World Series in his 20's) and replaced him with a clown that is a great fit for Saturday Night New Mexico vs. Colorado State games on ESPN 2. At best, Tess should be working with caste-clown supreme Steve Tasker doing meaningless Tennessee/Jacksonville games on Sundays.
I've, also, noticed Tessitore seems to have a weird/annoying "blinking issue", where he gets in front of the camera at times and trembles and shakes his head a bit and blinks way too much. Seriously, it might be a mild case of Tourette's Syndrome?
That Booger character is an enormous downgrade from Chucky Gruden. He's not very articulate or easy to understand....I think if ESPN felt they had to have a black analyst, that was also a former NFL player, they should've gone with Louis Riddick, who is much more articulate and seems to be significantly more informative. I also think a Chris Fowler or Reece Davis would be a much better MNF (Prime Time) play-by-play Goy than "Tess".

That was a poor performance by ESPN last night agreed. Right Don. The announcers never mentioned Joe Schobert who was all over the field.
He finished with a team high 13 tackles one for a loss and of course that great hit that caused the fumble. Crickets? Guy is playing like Luke Kuechly out there and no one picks up on it? Amateur hour.
LB Black Cashman made some plays for the Jets and I noticed the Giants Ryan Connelly was in on the action with the Giants.
By the way Joe Buck missed the fact that it was Saints DE Trey Hendrickson who caused the fumble, not the black DT, on the play the refs messed up. Like the Thursday night game where Buck misidentified saying a black player made the play when it was a white player ( Anthony Nelson). That he corrected. With Hendrickson neither Buck or Aikman corrected the error.
Speaking of errors I am loathe to show highlights of black WRs especially OBJ but I want to highlight the gruesome DB play that has infiltrated football. Watch the Jets safety #20. He doesn't even realize OBJ has the ball. It is mind boggling.

That is unbelievable (how stoned was he?), but it's par for the course in that the unforgivably bad play isn't even mentioned by the announcers (much like the best player in the game Joe Schobert was invisible to them). It doesn't need to be said yet again, but if that had been Jeff Heath or Daniel Sorensen, there would have been multiple replays centering on it, announcer condemnation, numerous sideline shots of the perp, national invective, and likely his release today.
I noticed on another play, one of those black DB specials where he kind of shrugged his shoulder instead of trying to make the tackle on a ball carrier. Saw the same by a Tampa DB against Carolina last Thursday, which jolly Troy Aikman at least briefly mentioned. But otherwise no negative ramifications for an inexcusable play, just another day at the office.
I'll mention again that Booger's bias was very noticeable last night, likely because he lacks the savvy to try to make it at least semi-subtle as most veteran Caste Clown announcers do. And as Truthteller wrote, "Tess" is way out of his league, a terrible combo to be broadcasting MNF.
Something else interesting about OBJ's TD is how #18 of Cleveland and #27 of the Jets easily make up ground on him downfield, while all Booger and Tess could do was rave about Beckham's supposed blinding speed.

I read some of the comments under the video. Numerous comments mentioned #20's play though few mentioned #20's name. It's safety Marcus Maye, the Jets' 2nd round pick in 2017.
Watch #35 of the Vikings on this long touchdown by Raheem Mostert of the 49ers from a couple years ago. He "defends" the play like he's actually on SF, blocking a 49er to give Mostert more running room rather than trying to make the tackle. And #24 of Minnesota is jogging rather than having any interest in making a play. It's just a preseason game but still. I'm sure if we had the resources to study every regular season game, these kind of plays would be found to happen all the time. I found this one purely by accident. You can bet Pro Football Focus sees it all the time, but of course not a peep as it's not part of the narrative.

Luke Falk is an extremely driven athlete who has openly worshiped Tom Brady for years. He has even changed his diet to emulate Brady’s. Next week, Falk (who, like Brady, was also drafted at pick #199 in the 6th round) will square off against his idol in an NFL game. I’d love to see him perform well, but the Jets OL is poor and NE’s defense could be the best unit in the NFL, and certainly the best under Bill Belichick since the 2005 championship team.
