Typically Browns LB Joe Schobert, who did his best Luke Kuechly impression Thursday night, is underappreciated by the local press. Considered a "good but not great" player it is just another example of the push back against tremendous NFL white defensive players.
Schobert's unworldly performance against the Steelers is sadly being overshadowed by the criminal attack by Garrett but make no mistake. Schobert, who is in his walk year, is a genuine star that is still rising. Just turning 26, Joe is just beginning to enter into his prime.
Consider this. He has 92 tackles on the year so far this season which is nearly 50 more than the next Browns player. That is a huge gap. And while Garrett was having a good season, albeit very dirty at times (not counting the helmet smash) Joe should be getting more pub but the media is disinclined to think of him as a new star in the NFL.
Below is a pic of Joe and his wife who are expecting their first baby.
Congrats to Joe and best luck out on the field for the rest of the year. Thursday night was his coming out party for good. The Browns are overall a team I don't care for much at all but one way to perk my ass up is for a team to have a rising young star linebacker who is the lynchpin of the defense. And the Browns have one in Joe Schobert.
Lets face it. Wisconsin grows great white linebackers on trees. TJ Watt of the Steelers is already one of the best defenders in the entire NFL. The only reason this game was of interest to me was Schobert and Watt. Give me a game where there are zero white defenders and I start to lose interest. I love watching great white defenders.
