It should work in Scott Miller's favor that he was the only offensive player taken in the draft by Tampa.

And with Anthony Nelson now joining Carl Nassib on defense and Miller joining Justin Watson at WR, Tampa has some players to root for if they make the roster and get to play during the regular season.

Bucs take chance on Bowling Green wide receiver who wasn’t invited to combine

by Eduardo A. Encina

The Bucs spent just one of their draft picks on an offensive player this weekend and it was on a wide receiver who didn’t receive a combine invite, but the Bucs believe they might have unearthed a hidden gem in selecting Bowling Green’s Scotty Miller in the sixth round.

Despite his 4.3 speed, Miller, a three-year starter for the Falcons, went largely under the radar heading into the draft, in part because not many teams scouted Bowling Green this year. The Bucs were among those who did, and once they saw Miller was beginning to draw some notice, they took a closer look to gauge whether he was worth a late-round pick.

Ultimately, they decided he was, and Miller, chosen with the 208th overall pick, became only offensive player the Bucs selected in their eight draft picks.

“You see a productive guy who is really fast, so you try to keep him under the radar as long as you can,” Bucs general manager Jason Licht said. "I know we were in contact with him quite often during the spring making sure nobody else has talked to him. And then when we found out a couple teams did, we brought him in.

“We went out there and worked him out,” Licht said. "We had a private workout with him. Our receivers coach went there to spent time with him. We just felt very comfortable drafting him in the sixth round."

While the 5-foot-11 Miller initially draws comparisons to Adam Humphries, he might be more likened to DeSean Jackson because his speed could make him into a vertical threat.

Miller led the Falcons with 71 receptions and 1,148 receiving yards. He also led Bowling Green with nine touchdown receptions. He logged six 100-yard receiving games in his 11 starts last season. That includes a 206-yard, two-touchdown game against Western Michigan.

In his four-year career at Bowling Green, Miller accumulated 2,867 receiving yards, which his third most in school history.

Miller is the second player the Bucs have drafted this year out of the mid-major MAC conference. They used their second-round pick on Central Michigan cornerback Sean Bunting.

While Miller has limited experience returning kicks, he could get a look in that role.

That’s a nice and fair article, I saw so many stupid Bucs fans complaining on Twitter. One tweet said “I analyzed 400 players and have never heard of Scott Miller” it shows how stupid all these people are that they know nothing about college football, and cry instantly when their team selects a white guy.

Very nice to see Miller get some props and even ESPN mentioned his 4.28 speed and thought they uncovered a diamond.

Funny. Both Tampa Bay and Arizona are two teams that are off market out of sight out of mind. No tradition like the Packers or Giants or Bills. These are traditionally low profile teams so that is a bit of a downer although the Cardinals and their circus act will draw plenty of attention . But both their drafts sort of mirror each other. Blindingly fast white WRs and big athletic white DEs.

Like CM in Carolina one positive is both the Bucs and the Cardinals play on grass, although the Tampa Bay field often looks like a cow pasture.

A few minor observations. I don't dislike Mel Kiper but why does he keep bringing up the 40 times of defensive linemen? The starting ten yard time split during the 40 and the 20 yard shuttle are the only significant testing numbers for defensive linemen.

Louis Riddick is funny. He thought every team had a great draft. He would go through teams picks and start swooning. There must have been a couple of teams who missed the boat Louis? Although his one big criticism was leveled at the Packers edge Gary and rightly said Winovich is a much better player.

Also they interviewed Seattle HC Pete Carroll and he came across as witty. Seemed ordinary except for the fact he has been one of the worst caste followers for ages. But along with Arizona and Tampa Bay he surprised this go around by picking a white OLB ( Barton) and a white ILB in BBK.

Is it possible that some dyed in the wool caste coaches and teams are sort of "slightly" beginning to see the light or is this just some sort of blip along the way?

Another good sign? The black player who ran the fastest 40 at the combine was not drafted. Nice to see scouts didn't fall for a one trick pony. Well they did, several times, but at least they weren't blinded by this player.

Here's another bizarre scouting report, this one on on Utah LB Chase Hansen. Reading it you will be surprised that he had a high tackle total at Utah. It makes him sound like a terrible player.

It has a section "Block Deconstruction" where it says he "struggles mightily."

Elsewhere Hansen was praised for his "good vestibular sense."

Whoever wrote this report is a bad writer who doesn't know the meaning of some of the words he uses.

Kismet. David Sills I think will follow the path of ex Titans Drew Bennett who also went undrafted. Several years ago the Bills brought in undrafted Chris Hogan and eventually signed him which opened the door to his NFL career. And Sills looks like a Drew Bennett clone to me.

Everything is pointing towards a similar scenario. First off the Bills for some stupid reason did not draft a much needed WR. They have Cole Beasley now in the slot and they drafted Dawson Knox, one of the many speedy/athletic TEs available in this draft. But they need an upgrade on non slot wide receivers. In fact as it stands Sills might be the best flanker on the Bills roster right now.

QB Josh Allen has historically (in his brief football career) been at his best playing with white WRs. The Bills will place Sills on a strength program and tighten up his route running.

Now they blew off Brandon Reilly who has more speed than Sills but Sills is a better long term prospect. It is very hard for me to envision white UDFA WRs getting into the NFL in any meaningful way because it is rare.

But all the signs point to Sills either making the roster early or a little later. Josh Allen to David Sills. Maybe I am being too optimistic but I see it happening. Just like Drew Bennett who like Sills was a QB before turning into a star WR.

Just watching the shots of fans of a particular team when their supposed favorite teams draft pick is announced tells you all you need to know. Pretty much every shot I saw was of the camera on a group of fans and after the pick was announced they all just froze like complete idiots for a few seconds and then mindlessly/rabidly cheered the pick which they knew nothing about. These fans no nothing except what they are fed by the sports media. They only know the big names and are too dumb, lazy or simply don't care to do their own research. For that idiot to tweet that he analyzed 400 players and did not know who Scott Miller was - he's trying to be funny because Miller did show up on teams radars and if you are more than a casual college football fan (which one would think this guy is for analyzing 400 players) he would of seen Miller's name.

Miami very quietly had a nice draft. I didn’t even know who Chandler Cox was. I just assumed he was black considered he was listed as a RB. If you count Rosen as one of their picks (used in the 2nd) that’s 4 white players they picked up. Definitely the whitest draft they’ve had in a long time. Also as important as who they drafted as who they didn’t draft (Dwayne Haskins and that sumo out of Texas A&M) I can (Grudgingly) support this franchise again

Like the Giants it was very important that Miami grab a white skill player to go along with the Rosen signing and they did with an ultra athletic edge hybrid in Andrew Van Ginkel. And like the Giants they grabbed a Wisconsin linebacker. You can't go wrong with them.

Below is one of my best memories from this draft. Trace McSorley and his family after learning he was drafted by the Ravens. The emotions are palpable.

I’ve been looking around the Bucs twitter and Instagram and it actually seems like a ton of their fans actually like the Scott Miller pick, some good signs from reading these tweets. These must be the fans that actually do their research and have looked at his highlights before commenting.

I’d say the average person in Tampa is much more red pilled than the average person in Miami

Must be one of the endless picks taken who viewers were assured are "high character" guys.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Giants CB Corey Ballentine's recovery from a gunshot will take a few weeks.
Ballentine was shot in the leg early Sunday morning after being drafted in the sixth round on Saturday. His gunshot wound luckily isn't life-threatening and he should have ample time to compete for a roster spot leading into the 2019 season, but Ballentine, unfortunately, will also be coping with the loss of his college teammate, Dwane Simmons, who passed away from the senseless shooting.

AJ Oueleete is headed to the Saints after an invite. I'm happy he won't be sitting at home but they have two very good running backs already. They have no need for A.J.O. outside
of maybe returning kicks or special teams. I can't think of a worse team for him to go to. Very sad. Of all places. Reminds me of how Gerhart got screwed backing up Peterson but at
least he was drafted and got paid a descent amount of money. AJ O. deserves better. He has starting potential but we know how the nfl hates white running backs! So unfair to this immense talent!

I looked up vestibular and by "good vestibular sense" I think the guy means he thinks Hansen has good balance.

Cards draft pick Andy Isabella runs 100-meter race at a 2015 HS track meet against a field that includes current Browns CB Denzel Ward. Ward was the 2018 Draft’s 4th overall pick and earned a Pro Bowl selection in his rookie year.

Sorry for the crappy nfl.com link. It was from some twitter post from plebbit. I hope he burns him again when the Cards play the Browns this season.

The coaching staffs always talk about putting good tape out during the preseason, but Nall put out monster films and didn't get a sniff from another team, considering the way running backs go down like foot soldiers you would think somebody would have snapped him up, even if it was to be a late season healthy scrath, so that they could have his rights for the next season.

Oulette will need a preseason for the ages and even then he's up against making the 53 man roster.

This snippet is from an article on the Patriots' draft. Keep fingers crossed that Berrios thrives this season. The same article mentions that Burkhead's roster spot may be in danger, which is possible after the Pats drafted a running back early for the second year in a row:

There are also a few players on the roster who should feel good following the draft, including wide receiver Braxton Berrios and some of the young linebackers who didn't get a chance to play last year due to injury. The Patriots did not draft a slot receiver, and after not signing any free agents, it seems to indicate the organization views Berrios of having a real chance of making the roster after spending last season on injured reserve.

I watched a video of Mike Mayock fielding questions after the 2019 draft. He was asked about trading up for Hunter Renfrow. He said he really liked Renfrow because of his ability to create separation and to do it quickly. He said he was hoping Renfrow would run a bad 40 time because then other teams wouldn't want to draft him but Renfrow ran an average 40.

He said Maxx Crosby played like his hair was on fire and wanted him to work with the trainers to get stronger.

It's a very trying time of year for agents. They live in constant fear of what one of their clients may do, or not do that will have negative impact on their own standard of living.

interesting comments on the face book page of the lions fans, nobody realizes that this athlete has not been correctly evaluated just because he is white.
the fans are just amazed and don't understand why

Here's a Reddit page about Benzschawel. Most comments are favorable. He had 20 offers from teams as a free agent.

Here's his RAS (6.58). 5.00 is average athleticism. Like a lot of players coming out of college he needs to get stronger.

The most gratifying and surprising moment of the draft for me was when WR Scott Miller was picked in the 6th round. I can't think of anyone else on the known universe ( if there is let me know) who discussed and hyped Miller more in the pre draft process than yours truly so on a personal level it was not only a great relief but especially rewarding.

But Miller didn't appear out of thin air. Our ace college football analyst member TwentyTwo has reported on Miller his entire college career. The moral of the story is for outstanding young white athletes, CF has their back. I for one will do everything in my power to shout from the highest rooftops for worthy white athletes. So it was nice to see something great happen after all of the effort put in promoting a player like Miller.

The second biggest surprise was Trace McSorley. Officially no white RBs were drafted but both McSorley and Taysom Hill follow the tradition of Paul Hornung so to a certain extent they are RBs. It is just that they can walk and chew gum at the same time making them multiple threats.

Most here probably agree that the biggest disaster of the draft was David Sills not getting drafted. And I for one have never gotten excited about UDFAs. I know some here do. Yes I know about Thielen and Hogan and Alex Erickson,(the latter should have been drafted) etc. but to me it is still a needle in the haystack ordeal. For every success story there are thousands of white players who never get a sniff. I can't be bothered. When it does happen I rejoice but I never pin my hopes on it happening.

But in the case of WR David Sills it is a hand in glove situation. The Bills have a lousy bunch of split end/flankers and in this rare case I actually think things will work out. If I was a betting man I would say Sills will be on their 53 man roster this season. And likely sooner rather than later.

There were 64 players from the SEC that were drafted which is a record. Not all were black of course but most were. The SEC is the main caste power source and it keeps on ticking. The SEC and teams like LSU are like the backyard for the NFL. Bad stuff.

No doubt this draft had some mystifying moments beginning with what Tampa Bay and Arizona pulled. But teams with great uncertainty stepped up more than they usually do and that would be Miami with their new black HC and the Giants. Both teams secured QBs for the future despite the carping from the media about both Daniel Jones and Josh Rosen. Then they picked outstanding athletic white LBs, both from Wisconsin. Miami also got FB Chandler Cox from Auburn who looks like he could play all over the field.

And I think I have this right, Seattle, of all teams , was the only team to draft two white defenders which is surprising on more than one front.

And the Steelers didn't have what you would call a big time Honky draft but they secured a big TE in Zach Gentry and a hyper feisty edge player in Sutton Smith.

With a little distance I can say this was one of the better drafts from an anti caste perspective.

And kudos to Mike Mayock again. The Raiders came through in a big way.
