The 2019 QB class is officially under fire. Rumors are that Herbert will stat at Oregon for his senior year. It sounds like Darnold all over again - I did not expect him to declare. I will say that some of our guys have been disappointments but I do see at least 2 quality white QBs who should be first rounders - Will Grier and Drew Lock.
I feel Drew Lock is a Goff type prospect - comes from a wide open system but plays on an overmatched team which causes issues. Physically and ability wise he can play at the next level though. I don't think he will be as highly regarded as Goff was but should still be a first round pick.
Grier is a bit of a gamer - he played well as a Freshman at Florida and has only continued to do so at WVU playing in what is essentially the modern NFL style offense.
I watched Ryan Finley enough vs. Boston College and Clemson to realize his arm strength is a little worrisome. I think that he is a 3rd/4th rounder at this point - quality back up type.
Clayton Thorson has really been an up and down guy for me this year - I liked him alot as a prospect but he was not all the way back from his knee injury until a few games ago. Since then he has been pretty impressive in getting Northwestern to 4-3 on the year. He does remind me some of Carson Wentz in terms of how he plays, body stature and throwing motion. I really want to see him finish the season out on a high note to improve his draft stock.
Lock, Grier, Finley and Thorson should all get Senior Bowl invites so they have alot of time to improve their draft stock.
Pretty accurate breakdown of QB position if you ask me LF! Including athletic QBs like Fitzgerald and McSorley to the mix adds excitement to the position. What's your opinion on North Dakota St. QB Easton Stick? I've watched him play a few times and was impressed. Not sure if he'll have a Jimmy G or Wentz type rise come draft time, but he should be in 5th-7th rd potential at very least.
I don't think Fitzgerald or McSorley are going to be looked at as NFL QBs. They could both be used like Taysom Hill for sure or convert positions. Fitzgerald will probably be typecast as a TE/H-back rather than given a shot at WR and McSorley will get dinged by the "too small" and not enough arm strength question marks which I actually have to agree with. As an athlete though he could be a WR/RB/DB type player if actually given a chance. I can only hope for the best as Matt Jones was royally screwed over by the league despite being a one of the most dynamic athletes to ever play.
On a side note - it looks like draftdaddy is finally dead. No updates since July 13th. Sad end for probably the best draft site out there since I started following in 2004.
Too bad, that was an excellent source of fair information and a CF favorite. It was obvious "reading between the lines" that they were well aware that the scouting and recruiting process and the NFL draft were stacked against White players at various positions, though they did eventually back off from that line of innuendo. Maybe they got some complaints from the usual gatekeepers that CF was citing them favorably.
i actually corresponded with the main author on several occasions, and he was certainly aware of the stigma against White athletes ... though he certainly trod VERY carefully when couching his language on the topic.Too bad, that was an excellent source of fair information and a CF favorite. Sad to hear. Walter Football is usually fairly accurate in their draft rankings, that's where I check up on prospects.
What don't you like about it just curious? And I'm aware of The Draft Network they have a good amount of positive scouting reports on white prospects, but their rankings are a little caste.I dislike walterfootball for a myriad of reasons. There are other better sites with better content.
The Draft Network is a newer site that has alot of content on it. It is mostly caste but has a good database of draft eligible players.
NFLDRAFTSCOUT is another decent site that churns out fairly regular content.
CBSSPORTS moved on from Dane Brugler and Rob Rang (both caste clowns...Rang is now on NFLDRAFTSCOUT). Brugler has moved to a pay for content site. So far the new draft guy at CBS (Chris Trapasso) has been ok - he was the first "analyst" to give Ben Burr-Kirven first round recognition.
It does seem that many of the original draft sites/forums are dying or on life support - NFLDRAFTCOUNTDOWN is essentially dead. It looks like alot of the "experts" go to twitter now to espouse their instant analysis to their lemming fans. NFL.com's draft content has not been as updated as it was previously - they seem to be scaling back some.
The new guy running the senior bowl is someone I am wary of just due to his NFL connections - he came from the Seahawks.
