From 2005 through 2018, the Rams have started 15, 16, 17, 15, 14, 13, 12, 8, 8, 9, 7, and 5 whites. they look to start between 7-9 this year (the McBride brothers are listed as co- first stringers with two blacks)
CSU will begin its 8th season under SEC occupation with 5th year head coach Mike Bobo who has produced 7-6, 7-6, 7-6, and 3-9 seasons and 1-11 in rivalry games (CU, AFA, and WYO). The athletic department made the shortsighted decision of extending Bobo’s contract midway through his 3rdyear and incorporating a gradually decreasing $8 million dollar buyout into his contract, essentially making him a lame duck coach until they can afford to can him in a future year unless he pulls a 180 which few if any are expecting.
Oft injured Collin Hill will begin the season as the starter, a position he held at the end of last year taking over for the failed K.J. Carta-Samuels experiment and 2016 before a season ending leg injury. Nebraska transfer Patrick O’Brien will be battling with a “dual threat” option for the backup role, whom the boosters will most certainly clamor for at some point during the season.
Fullback Adam Prentice returns as the team’s captain who saw an increase in touches in 2018 (16 carries for 62 yards) but still consigned to more of a blocking role. Senior Brenden Fulton has seen limited action in each of his previous three years with the Rams, but will get the chance to start as WR3. Trey McBride had an excellent true freshman season hauling in 7 catches for 89 yards and a TD.
Fort Collins native Max McDonald may yet again set to be the lone white starter on an otherwise coal black defense. He was set to build on an impressive 2017 but stepped away a third of the way through the season for personal (mental health / anxiety) reasons. The Coloradoan did a nice piece on him earlier this year:
