Since 2006, Clemson has started 7, 5, 5, 5, 2, 4, 3, 5, 5, 3, 6 , 6....This year is up to 8

Pretty impressive when you consider there were only 3 White Starters just three years ago. Quality depth noted w last years write up on defense has come to fruition . Clemson has definitely bucked the National(& Southern) trend...esp with the number white defenders on Scholarship over the past few years.

Led by generational talent QB Trevor Lawrence (Soph. 6'-6" 220) took over in the middle of last season as a True Freshman & never looked back. Without him the don't win National Championship!

Clemson has an an excellent Walk-on program going with some potential players under the radar. Coach Dabo Swinney being a ex walk-on WR in college at Alabama has helped this. (It's actually translating to the entire roster as far as scholarship players are concerned.)
>>> Ex Walk-on WR's include.... Tyler Grisham (cut by Steelers); Adam Humphries (Bucs/Titans); Hunter Renfrow (Raiders). That's one thing this year's team lacks..no white WR's on 2 Deep...but there are still some young players coming down the pipeline.

2 Deep...QB Chase Brice; TE Luke Price
Watch for ...WR Brannon Spector(Fr.) ; TE Davis Allen (Fr.)
WR Will Swinney (Walk-on) ; WR Tye Herbstreit(Fr.) (Preferred Walk-on) & several others

OFFENSE (4)
QB- Trevor Lawrence
TE - JC Chalk
C - Sean Pollard
RG - Gage Cervenka

DEFENSE (4)
DE - Logan Rudolph
MLB - Jaime Skalski
WLB - Chad Smith
FS - Tanner Muse (Sr. 6'-2" 230) 1st Team pre-season All ACC

2 Deep...FS Nolan Turner (Dad Kevin played FB NFL); MLB Jake Venables ; WLB Baylon Spector
Others to watch ...LB Kane Patterson (Fr.); LB Kieth McGuire (Fr.) ;DE Logan Cash (Fr.); CB Jake Herbstreit (Fr. / Preferred Walk-on)

FS Nolan Turner is almost like another starter...playmaker is on the field plenty

* Class of 2020 is reloading with the Best D-Lineman in the Nation...Brian Bresee (possibly another JJ Watt?) & DB Tyler Venables so far.

Good to see. I recall how black the 1981 Clemson team that won the national championship was for that era, right when I was becoming aware of the Caste System. By the time BYU won it in 1984 they were already the object of ridicule and jokes for being overwhelmingly White. Many "analysts" didn't believe they deserved to be national champs even though they were the only undefeated team that year.

Lawrence and Muse are two big-time talents to root for along with the rest of the team. Four White starters on an SEC defense -- turn back the clock!

In the wake of Luck’s retirement Trevor Lawrence is most likely the next closest thing in terms of a draft prospect. I am looking forward to seeing him continue to get better at the college level.

Gotta give Dabo credit for giving White players a chance. Kind of reminds me of how Duke is / was in basketball with their rosters.

The Herbstreit Twins are indeed the children of ESPN analyst Kirk for anyone who is wondering. Funny that they are at Caste-busting positions. Sure dad “knows the score” but would never speak out about it.

Four whites allowed to start on defense? At a #1 ranked Southern school? And no one has filed hate crime charges with the proper authorities!

A perfect write up. Thanks TwentyTwo.

One thought and one trivia question.

I mentioned it last year after the title game but when Alabama QB was stopped cold on a crucial fourth down play by safety Tanner Muse it was the first time that not only had Tua seen a white DB on the field all season let alone be smacked by one. I think it is more than ironic that Tua came up against a DB that said not this time mister.

If Tanner Muse gets drafted in 2020 and fellow stud speedster safety Nolan Turner gets drafted in 2021 when was the last time two white DBs from the same college team ended up on NFL rosters at the same time?

Notre Dame? Harrison Smith and Zeke Motta is the most recent one I can come up with?

One question here, when was the last time the CFB champion having 10+ white starters?
Maybe Clemson in upcoming two seasons?

Something doesn't sit right with me for both of Herbstreit's kids to be preferred walk-ons at Clemson. "Herbie" is out spouting caste rheotoric every Saturday morning on Game Day and then again at night when he is doing the Saturday night broadcast. Nothing against his kids but there father is a joke and maybe if he had used his position to talk about the difficulties his sons faced during the recruiting process they would of ended up at other programs with scholarships.

Wow Don ...yeah...was just old enough to remember that as a little boy ; noticed that too. (pre Jimmy Johnson at Miami)
Never though i'd see the day Clemson has more white starters on their Defense than Boston College or Stanford!

Yes... DE - Logan Cash was going to redshirt due to surgery; is transferring .....curious to see where the 4-star recruit from GA will end up??
Even with the transfer ...Clemson has "NINE" white defensive players on "Scholarship"..that's still more than Louisville ; Florida State; & most of the SEC combined!

Thanks Shadowlight! Good trivia question with Tanner Muse stuffing Tua!

Leonardfan...i'd like to talk to Herbstreit myself about that.
