At a bar watching some football action this past week, I overheard some African American guys at another table talking about the Patriots. They were saying they hate the Patriots, but, quote, "thems is some cold, bad dudes" and that "Brady is the best mothaf**ing QB on the planet ever."

So, at least SOME Black people give credit where it's due. That's encouraging.

On the downside, I did overhear a lot of White "men" disparaging White players, constantly referring to them as "boy," etc.

But then again, these guys at the sports bar are the kind who wear women's jeans and have really, meticulously manicured lumberjack beards and weigh like 140 lbs.

Was Case Keenum kept out of the NFL or blackballed from the NFL? If Tebow could pass downfield as effectively as Keenum did this year, or shown "room for improvement," he would be in the NFL somewhere.

Sport Historian, I agree with you when it comes to opposing the 14/88ers, but I have to disagree with you on this one. Tebow got screwed, plain and simple. As for Keenum, he was a second-stringer for much of his career. He wasn't kept out of the league, but he was kept out of a starting position despite having first-string talent. And his devout Christianity only became public, quite literally, yesterday. We'll see how the controllers of the league react to that. It wouldn't surprise me to see a big "Bradford over Keenum" push suddenly and mysteriously appear.

Tim Tebow is the only quarterback in NFL history to win a playoff game and then be completely blackballed from the league. Completely. He's not even allowed to be a backup somewhere. His weaknesses, while real, were less serious than those of Blake Bortles or first-year Jared Goff, both of whom were allowed to keep starting positions after their struggles. Who knows? Tebow could have made a Goff-like leap forward. Or perhaps not. But we'll never know, because he was not given a chance.

Tebow was blackballed for a combination of three reasons: His devout Christianity, his dual-threat propensity for running the ball, and his white skin. Quarterbacks with one, sometimes two, of those traits are allowed in the league, but not quarterbacks with all three. He angered too many powerful groups, shattered too many stereotypes. That's why they had to get rid of him.

Tebow was doomed by Josh McDaniels early firing in Denver during his rookie season. After that, no GM or HC was willing to put himself on the line and give Tebow a fair chance.

Peyton Manning's unexpected availability in the 2012 off season and signing with Denver was another huge blow. The cruel irony is that Manning would have never signed with Denver if they stuck with Kyle Orton and had a 4-5 win season in 2011.

What's often forgotten is Rex Ryan's cowardice in not giving Tebow a chance late in the 2012 season after they were out of the playoffs and Mark Sanchez's run was pretty much finished. My opinion is that Ryan was afraid that Tebow would play well.

Tebow was definitely screwed by the NFL, but things may have gone differently with better luck.

But the fact remains that he won the Heisman trophy, won a national championship in college, had a winning record as a starting NFL QB, and was massively popular among fans. But he was blackballed from the NFL because he was a devout Christian and being a big, athletic white QB, he threatened the narrative that the (((stringpullers))) push non-stop that whites are inferior athletically to blacks. And the PTB did not want a devout Christian as the face of the NFL

I remember a poster here predicted what would happen to Tebow back in 2008. He said a dual threat white quarterback would never be given a chance. He was right on the money.

Tebow was also cut by the Patriots in 2013 and Chip Kelly's Eagles in 2015. In both instances, those teams were among the most white-friendly in the NFL, especially Kelly's Eagles, who were a half-white roster at the time. Tebow was presumably brought to NE at the request of Josh McDaniels and the fact that he couldn't even win the 3rd string QB job for the Pats is quite telling.

I loved Tebow as a player and a person, but I'll admit that he had some flaws in the passing game.

Tebow played well in the preseason the year he was cut by the Eagles. The 3rd string job went to a no name AA QB. At the very least Tebow should have been a 3rd string quarterback somewhere.

There's no question the mainstream media wanted him out of the NFL. We know why. He was white, a Christian, a dual threat quarterback and a positive role model for white people.

I was very surprised by his struggles in the NFL after watching him throw at Florida. He had a 66.4% completion percentage and threw for 88 TDs against just 16 interceptions as a Gator. Maybe his throwing mechanics were messed with to the point that he lost accuracy and confidence, or maybe he was hypnotized. He certainly deserved more time to improve as a thrower, and he earned it when he used his legs and moxie to lead Denver to the playoffs and a playoff win over Pittsburgh.

Speaking of Pittsburgh, more on their entitled, dysfunctional culture. Safety Mike Mitchell stood outside the Jacksonville locker room before the game yelling "You're gonna know my name!" He's a long-time big-mouth that the local media always comes running to for quotes. And earlier in the week RB LeVeon Bell threatened to retire unless he gets paid what he wants. Shows what his priorities were, and always are -- himself, himself, himself.

And a fun fact I just read -- Mike Mularkey is the first head coach fired after winning a playoff game since the 49ers canned Steve Mariuchi back in 2002.

My understanding with Tebow is that his throwing mechanics were out of wack. A lot of people were of course focusing on his throwing motion since it reminded them of Byron Leftwich but according to Vinny Testaverde, that is who I think it was training him after Denver, his footwork for throwing was a mess as well.

I don't know if he got himself jumbled up after entering the NFL since people were completely focusing on his throwing motion since before the draft or if the way he threw did not just work in the NFL.

I think if Tebow had been right handed he might have gotten a better shake. Lefty QB's are fairly rare and some of them look awkward no matter how effective they are. (Some of course throw great and look very smooth). I just think it's easier to see a lefty as being awkward and some of that was directed at Tebow.

But regardless, that run he had with all the late wins and then the playoff victory should have earned him another spot somewhere. Like there aren't some sorry teams out there that could up the excitement level with a popular scrappy player.

During the lead up to the Holmes vs Cooney super fight ,Gerry Cooney constantly answered questions about what would happen if his bombs that took out Norton and Lyle failed to dent Holmes and he said it made him leery of fighting at a faster pace as he became "buffaloed" about his stamina. Maybe Tebow had the same mental issues about his throwing motion.

Don Wassall's description of Mike Tomlin being a "BLM militant with thug tendencies" is absolutely spot on. Furthermore, just watch him speak after a game or any press conference, and you can see very clearly how hard he's suppressing that inner thug from coming out while trying to behave and sound professional, with his perfect command of Ebonics.

He has certainly exceeded the shelf life of a typical "player's coach" by a longshot. The honeymoon period for those coaches is never more than 2-3 years, as we most recently witnessed with the downfall of Black Jack Del Rio over at the Raiders penitentiary. I think it's been a combination of a franchise QB, Dick Lebeau running the defense for many years, drafting some decent players and an overall organizational stability that has allowed Tomlin to keep his job. It also helps that they play in the AFC North, which pretty much comes with 4 guaranteed wins every year against CIN and CLE. He's not an elite coach by any stretch, but I suspect he will always have a job in the NFL as long as he wants to coach.

My guess is that after Ben retires, which could be in 2019, the Steelers could spend some time in the wilderness similar to the period from 1984-1992 (Mark Malone, Bubby Brister) following Bradshaw's retirement. That's when Tomlin will either retire or forced out. I can't stand the guy so I look forward to the day when that happens.

Throw this at your friend. Here are some of Newton's 2017 stats, 59.1 pct, 22 TDs, 16INTs, 80.7 quarterback rating. These are not the stats of good starting quarterback.

Tom Brady (hand) declined to say if he'll play in Sunday's AFC Championship game. Brady confirmed he returned to practice Friday but didn't offer much on his status. There should be more clarity when the Patriots release their injury report. Brady is expected to be fine for Sunday's matchup with Jacksonville.

Funny story years ago I "sacked" our starting quarterback in football practice on an impromptu safety blitz during a full contact practice. He was wearing a bright vest but I thought I could still grab him but not tackle him, some how my helmet hit his hand and caused similar swelling to Brady's problem.

In the past if a back of the roster player ran into or even did what I did to a starting quarterback they would be instantly cut. In this case I think it was inadvertent bumping.

I think this is the tack they'll take. They're already spinning a scenario in which the Patriots "unathletic" white receivers will have difficulty with the Jaguars' "athletic" black defensive backs. The same "athletic" defensive backs that gave up 45 points in their last game against Pittsburgh.

LeVeon Bell blew off the team's walkthrough the day before the Steelers loss to Jax and showed up late for the game itself, as did an "unnamed" coach, likely Tomlin's buddy Joey Porter. Quite the team player, the epitome of unselfishness. But no worries, Steelers' DWFs love him unconditionally.

From the local rag: As another example, Tomlin wants players and coaches to report to the locker room two hours before kickoff for games. That was continually ignored by both players and a coach or two. Not only did Bell arrive much later than that for the playoff game against Jacksonville (as well as one coach), he missed practically the entire Saturday walk-through the day before, showing up about five minutes before practice ended.

I’m glad Brady’s injury was a cut instead of ligament damage, a broken bone, swelling, bruising, etc.

Probably the worst aspect of this Jaguars squad is their sheer unpredictability. They allowed 42 points in the Divisional Round against the Steelers, they barely beat the hapless Bills in the Wildcard round in a very low-scoring affair, they lost to the Titans in Week 17 in a low-scoring game, and Jimmy G’s 49ers scored 44 points against them in Week 16.

NE could easily lose this game, as the Jags have already had a great season (by their standards) and are playing with nothing to lose. All the pressure is on the Pats, as they’re not only the betting favorites to win this home playoff game, but they’re also trying to overcome Brady’s injury, their two to assistant coaches leaving, and battling to prove that the ESPN article about “internal conflicts” was indeed exaggerated.

Also, it seems like Burkhead will be active today!
