I'm under the assumption Volko ran in the prelims because he did not have the IAAF standard in the event.

Guliyev's absence from the 100m is very disappointing. With deGrasse out and several other false starters, I am certain he would be making the final this year and clocking another sub-10.

I'm hoping this will help him in running the rounds of the 200. He looked liked he almost jogged his 20.01 round in 2015 Worlds but found the fatigue visiting as the stages progressed.

Schippers, Lalova, Horn, Luckenkemper, Swoboda all made it - Swoboda's 11.24 was third fastest non-auto qualifier, others all made top 3 and qualified automatically

This my future wife from Germany we are talking about. I've moved on from Verena Sailer. Lol. Gina L. looked amazing but I worry about anyone running that hard in the first race. It's youthful excitement and inexperience. I wanted her to do that in the semi finals or finals. I wish she would have backed off and eased down in the last 10 meters. Regardless she is the new face
of female sprinting in Germany. She could teach Reus a thing or two about sprinting in big championships and how to calm your nerves. Imagine if the 2 of them made babies? They would be the fastest white babies in the world! He can't have her though. She is mine. I already bought the ring. Haha.

Good luck to Lueckenkemper, Schippers and all of the other ladies we are rooting for. Can't wait to watch the semi finals!

Yeah, Gina is a total success no matter what happens. New PB, breaks 11 second barrier, and just having fun with it.

Yes, she needs to have Reus's baby, but not until she wins some big meets.

people forget Cunliffe is in the sub 11 group. If she had been healthy this season she would be repping USA instead of Washington...She was beating Stevens and Washington easy on a regular basis. She and Teeters need to make babies....

I was sad to see Menkov finish 4th in the long jump finals. He had like 5 of his 6 jumps that didn't
count. A few looked good to me. His 8.27 on his first jump with no wind almost got him a medal. He
just barely got edge out. Still quite the talent and he will be back!

Well, the men's 100 is in the history books. One old drug cheat beat another. We'll never know if Guliev could have medaled, BUT, The G-man should be in a good position to do some damage in the 200. He is well rested and Bolt is finished. It is wide open.

Gorgeous young 20 year old lady. I love this video as it shows the pure unbridled joy of accomplishment. She wanted to make the semis and run sub 11. She did both in her first race.
I don't expect too much of her just yet as she has years to improve. I would love to see her in the final and duplicating this effort

I just watched the 100 meter womens finals. Schippers was put in lane 9 which gave her very little chance
of medaling. It's hard to react on the inner or outside lanes. Despite this setback and a horrible start she
came from way down to get the bronze medal. I'm so proud of her. If she had one of the middle lanes, I
really think she would have taken at least the silver and maybe a gold medal. I'm still happy as the heavy
favorite E.Thompson didn't even medal. Congrats to Dafne Schippers on another fine performance.

Wow! Bronze from lane 9. That is amazing. And it is good to see arrogant Elaine Thompson not medal.

AWESOME!!!!!!!! Those ******** at NBC did not give us the complete times and order of the sprinters after the race completed. And the idiot from Africa who won the Silver never leaned which cost her the Gold. NBC never mentioned Schippers winning the bronze. Fantastic result and shows she has staying power. She did not medal in the 1ooM at the last Olympics so I am very happy with this result. Dafne is something else!!!!!!!! Good stuff we need it.

I have to admit the 110 high hurdles semi finals was hard to watch. Both Andrew Pozzi and Devon Allen
were elmimnated by an eyelash. Pozzi would have won the race but he hit the 9th hurdle. So sad to
see both of these guys who had a chance to medal miss out on a shot in the finals.

That being said I want to see Shubenkov win it. He hasn't been in the best form but he knows how to win. I
also like the guy from Hungary.

BALÁZS BAJI cool name, fast guy, he and the russkie are our only hopes in the final. One can hope!
I agree in regards to the negro loving commentator from the US station and Bolden forgetting the rest of the field all Ta Lou, Bowie and Thompson. Schippers was coming like a freight train, if she had done better in semis she would have had a better lane and most likely wins or gets silver. Ta Lou lost gold because she thought she had it in the bag and did not lean, Bowie to her credit leaned so hard she face planted. She is arrogant but not so much as Roid Thompson. Sad to see Lukenkemper peter out in the semis, on another note her 10.95 would have beaten Schippers for third, Swoboda needs a few more years of seasoning. Canadians and Aussies dropping like flies in all events, sad to see.

Schippers is happy I am happy the world of caste not so happy. Good, nothing like a sharp object up their collective you know what. The" blacks are superior" theorists and pseudo scientists have always pointed to the lack of whites on the medal stands for the short sprints. Dafne once again comes through and she is about as important as it gets for us here at caste. The 200M is later this week so it would be doubly great if she can make some noise in that race which has usually been her better event! Below is one happy lady!!

Guliyev looked magisterial. An easy victory over an American and LeMaitre.
LeMaitre looked like he had just enough left to separate himself from the also-rans. His speed isn't there.
Volko finished a clear third, but he had to work for it.

Adding to that, Tortu is through! He beat out Jamaican Olympian medalist Warren Weir by the thickness of a piece of paper. Time wasn't great, though. He's an injury-free year away from making real noise.

So I'll rate the chances as I did for the Olympics.

1) Guliyev. I continue to see him having a good shot at a medal.
2) Talbot. Don't be shocked if he makes the final.
3) LeMaitre--very slender chance of making final. Not in shape for a medal.
4) Tortu--also very slender chance of final.
5) Volko--I expect him to be eliminated in the semis.

Oops. Spoke too soon. The Greek guy also just made it to the semis. I would rate his chances about the same as LeMaitre and Tortu's. Looked good. Actually, gun to my head, I'd say he looked better than LeMaitre, and I'm not sure Tortu didn't also look better than LeMaitre, but I give Christophe the edge due to championship experience.

Sergey Shubenkov gets silver in 110 meter hurdles despite bad lane assignment.

I wanted to see our other guys in the final too but this medal puts Sergey as one of the top hurdlers in the world. He has
proven now several times that he belongs with the cream of the crop. Congrats on an amazing performance!

The cool named Hungarian gets third in the 110m hurdles! You guys forgot about him..lol Lemaitre looked like he was dying after his 200m, gasping for air like a fish out of water. Even not is top shape he should be able to crank 20.20's in his sleep with not much effort and not looking like he is dying.

Joining Shubenkov on the medal stand is Hungarian Baji so a Silver and Bronze not too shabby.
And Olga Rypakova nabbed a Bronze in the Triple Jump.
