Since 2005, Navy has started 13, 10, 9, 11, 13, 13, 12, 10, 9, 9, 8 and 5 white starters. They bump up to 8 this year. This is a program that has really darkened in recent years, and it seems like a lot of the white HS prospects that end up here don't pan out. Looking back on past recruiting classes, I've noticed a lot of players that are now completely absent on the three-deep depth chart.

Offense -
QB - Zach Abey
WR - Tyler Carmona
LT - Jake Hawk
LG - Robert Lindsey
C - Parker Wade
RT - Andrew Wood

Defense -
NG - Jackson Pittman
LB - Hudson Sullivan

Notable backups include FB Anthony Gargiulo, C David Forney, RG Steve Satchell, RT Ford Higgins, DE Anthony Villalobos, and LB Conner Dorris.

Zach Abey apparently isn't good enough to be assured the starter due to his upside- melanin laden backup. Abey was one of the leading rushers in college football but according to the poly head coach and Weenieworld the black back up is the better player even though the performance on the field shows Abey as a fantastic runner.

Navy HC Ken Niumatololo says he's re-opened a quarterback competition.

Niumatololo indicated that junior QB Zach Abey (shoulder) has looked good in practices after he missed the SMU game. Even so, he's not committing to Abey going forward. Abey is a great runner between the tackles, but his lack of speed has hampered Navy's preference to put pressure on the perimeter in its triple-option offense. Malcolm Perry is faster, and a more natural runner, according to Niumatololo. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound Abey is also still dealing with a left shoulder injury he suffered in the Temple loss. For his part, Perry is questionable for the Notre Dame game after suffering an ankle injury against SMU. Navy figures to keep Notre Dame in the dark about its intentions until perhaps gameday. "Zach will definitely be back in the mix and I’ll turn this back over to [quarterbacks coach Ivin Jasper]," Niumatalolo said. "We’ll have to discuss it as a staff and see where we’re at. We have to find out Malcolm’s health and Zach’s health."

Navy sophomore QB Malcolm Perry (ankle) is questionable for Saturday's game against Notre Dame.

Filling in for the injured Zach Abey, Perry rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns in last Saturday's 43-40 win against SMU. Unfortunately, the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder also got rolled up by an SMU defender. "It looked like Malcolm sprained his ankle pretty good so we’ll just have to see," Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo said. If Perry and Abey were both healthy, it sounds like Navy would prefer to use Perry, whose speed and elusiveness gave the offense an element that Abey's skill set didn't. If both are unavailable against the Irish, Navy will turn to QB3 Garret Lewis. "We’ll go back and look at the situation this week. Obviously, health will play a factor," QB coach Ivin Jasper said. "Malcolm has an injury right now, so we’ll have to find out how serious that may be. Ankle sprains can take time to heal. We’re also worried about Zach’s shoulder."
