2017 Iowa Hawkeyes

Since 2005, Iowa has started 11, 13, 15, 15, 13, 12, 11, 12, 16, 13, 14, and 14 whites. This year they bump up and tie their all time high with 16 white starters! Go Hawkeyes! This should be one of, if not, the whitest teams in the nation this year. With WR Matt VandeBerg returning for a fifth year and walk-on JC transfer Nick Easley (who made a ton of noise this off season) taking up the two starting wideout positions, this will be a very fun team to watch.

The defense will be fun to watch with a nearly all-white front 7, and ILB Josey Jewell is a legitimate NFL prospect who will most definitely be playing on Sundays soon. 12 of the 14 players on the front seven two-deep are white! In addition, Jake Gervase starts at FS, and Noah Clayberg is the back up at SS.

Their offense should be great to watch. Brian Ferentz took over as the Offensive Coordinator and worked under Bill Belichick for several years, and in 2011 was their Tight Ends coach and coached Gronkowski and Hernandez.

Here's what Bill Belichick said about him:

“I don't think that anyone does it any better than Kirk does, and Brian brings that overall awareness, instinctiveness and that aptitude for the game. I think the game comes easy to him in terms of techniques, Xs and Os and schemes because of his experience with it. He's done a great job in all of the responsibilities that he has, particularly in the development of our young tight ends. Even though he is young in age, he's much more experienced in terms of overall football knowledge."

Not easy to get high praise like that from Belichick. I expect Iowa to incorporate much of Belichick's offensive game plan and philosophy. It will be "must watch" football when they play on Saturdays. Expect a lot of snide and condescending remarks about the "lack of athleticism" from the (((sportswriters))) and (((sports media))), however.

Clayberg must be a hell of an athlete. He took a "grayshirt" scholarship offer, so he just enrolled this January and is already second string SS.

Scanning the pre-season publications a few few weeks ago; the Iowa Hawkeyes really stood out bucking the trends staying more true to the state's demographics. Almost a roster one would expect to see in the 1970's

Junior DB Brandon Snyder is a big-time thumper with NFL potential(see DB thread)... will probably miss 17' season after tearing ACL in the Spring

Allow me to be POLITICALLY CORRECT. In order to keep proper racial numbers within football programs here is my suggestion. Each University must abide by these rules when it come to the racial layout of their football rosters. They must fill up their roster with a racial balance that reflects the state the school resides in. For example Nebraska. I don't have the figures in front of me but I would guess the population is over 70% white. So Nebraska U's football team should be over 70% white. That way each state isn't neglecting "the majority" and that all races are proportionally represented. Sounds fair to me. At least Iowa hasn't gone off the deep end. What are Oregon and Oregon State's excuses? Or BYU and Utah. Etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum!!

Really curious to see how the offense develops and who wins the starting qb job. Iowa has long been a team I have rooted for - going back to the Chad Greenway, Drew Tate and Ed Hinkle days of the early to mid 00s.

I've always liked Iowa too, going back to the 1990s. Tim Dwight may still be the fastest football player I've ever seen. The Big 10 was fun to watch then as there were a fair number of Whites playing and starring at "racially incorrect" positions.
