Hortelano was easing up just as Blake was, it doesn't matter as I think Hortelano has a very good chance of beating Blake in the semi's or if he doesn't he will be within 1 stride at the finish line. This dude is improving in leaps and bounds everytime out. If he does not go sub 20 in the semi's I will be surprised.

Nice to see Lalova qualify for the finals. I agree Nelson looked quite good, looking forward to her developing in the next couple of years. Lukenkemper looks like she has the legs as well, she ran well for a young girl who is still getting stronger. In the HJ good to see a white man win in 2.38m well done Drouin. lol and they say "white men can't jump" I say bulldung to that....

White men took 2 of the 3 medals in the high jump. This happens all the time as the majority of the worlds best
high jumpers are white guys. Many champs we see sweeps. Don't forget that the world triple jump world record
is still held by a white guy from the 90's names Johnathan Edwards.

HJ winner Derek Drouin not only won with ease but he jumps more consistently than other jumpers. Ever since Whites started dominating this event the "experts" came up with the bouncing stick theory: that it doesn't take spring in the legs to jump high just a non-athletic technique. They demonstrate this by throwing a stick on its end hard onto the ground so it rotates automatically over a bar. Drouin has blown that theory away as he uses a much slower approach run to the bar, plants his take-off foot on his toe first. Then his heel drops and he rebound off his toes. Pure spring and therefore more consistent.

Do they even show coverage of this event on Talmudvision? Usually, when a sport is or becomes white-dominated, the coverage becomes scant.

Yes, I was able to watch this but your point is well taken. I've been wanting to see weight lifting but never see it on. I guess there are not enough dindus competing at a high level to make it onto US airwaves.

Derek Drouin's Gold is the biggest moment so far for me. If Schippers wins the 200 M tonight then we will have a DAILY DOUBLE!!!!!!! God Almighty let her win tonight for crying out loud. Can't we be allowed to have some fun in life? Why is it that white athletes are never coming through anymore in these damn sprints. We care here at CF but I hate the malaise that has settled in when it comes to the approach of white athletes and sprints. Every four years it seems things get a little worse if that is possible..
As for the high jump it is the best and most natural way to decide who is the GREATEST LEAPER in the world. Dunking a friggen basketball is BS compared to this the REAL DEAL. So for that S- head who did that movie "White Men Can't Jump' I'd like to say eat this you bastard!!!!!
There is such a joyous release for me when a white athlete comes up aces in the super "athletic " events!!!! We need much much more of it>because it feels so friggen GOOD!

Remember on the average that blacks have longer legs, shorter torsos and longer arms than whites. These things that many blacks are born with gives them an advantage in sports like boxing and basketball. Especially the reach but also the leverage for jumping/sprinting. Despite this whites are consistantly the worlds best jumpers. There are also whites built with long legs, short torsos and long limbs. My point is that whites jump higher than anyone whether they aee built like that or not. It is the racial bias in recruiting that holds whites back in most sports. They are just as explosive and even more so in jumping.

In womens springboard diving finals the other I decided to watch for the first time in the past 3 Olympics and lo and behold I see 2 chinese divers dominate(never figured out why over the years) a negro from my home country of Canada and a white Italian gal, I did not root for the negro nor the chinese, I rooted for the Italian girl and she won bronze, well done!

Now as a non swimmer/diver can someone please enlighten my feeble old mind as to why chinese women dominate diving every Olympics and WC's?

I was elated when Jager won silver in the men's steeplechase, he proved that whites can compete and win medals. I do not get why Kenyan winner was showboating heading towards the finish line, I would have died of laughter if the dumbass tripped and fell as Jager was coming down the line like a freight train...it was also wonderful to see Jager put a beating on the 3rd place finisher, he couldn't handle the pressure put on him, he was gassed and basically quit...still got 3rd but quit...lol

I see Jager winning in the next WC's and possibly in 2020 if he stays in the sport...he has the natural talent to accomplish this....

Cheers

I saw the super-heavyweight weight-lifting last night. It was expected the Iranian winner from London would win in Rio too; and the room (not a stadium) was filled with his supporters. But a guy from Georgia (which is predominantly Christian) won with an Olympic record. There was drama as the Iranian after leading by 1 Kg in the snatch (despite a world-record from the Georgian) failed all 3 attempts in the Clean & Jerk. The crowd booed the Georgian. I watched on a Canadian channel late last night and I recorded NBC but looked this morning and it was not shown. So the Olympic slogan is just Faster (100m) - we must ignore: Stronger (S-heavyweight weight-lifting), and Higher (high jump).

I actually liked the movie. I hated the concept at first when it came out in 1992 but the point of the movie is that White Men Can Jump. It is the stereotype that is perpetuated as to how Woody Harrelson hustles other black players for $. I also thought there was some real genuine chemistry between Wesley Snipes And Harrelson. If you recall they win the large $ game against the 2 court legends on a Harrelson dunk though he did have to get that perfect pass from Snipes but the fact that Snipes throws the pass so Woody can dunk it shows his character really does understand that Harrelson can dunk or he would not have thrown it up the way he did. The movie is about stereotypes and how false they can be.

I enjoy weightlifting, but ratings wise, the 100 meter sprint is always at the top of popularity. It the shortest and most exciting event as its multiple head to head competition. So I dont think the other events were purposely ignored

Elispeedster: The 100m has been at the top of popularity in the US for generations but in other places it has only acquired that position in the last 20 years or so. In 1980 in the UK when Allan Wells won the 100m most people were only interested in middle distance with the Coe v. Ovett events. The media have the ability to manipulate which event will be the most important; and great commentators can make a game of chess interesting.

an interesting aside. We sometimes mention the contingent of African born athletes quick-tracked to represent other countries.
I read today there are 44 Chinese born table tennis players in Rio - 6 actually play for China.
The Olympics really are a catalyst for nonsense scenarios and blatant commercial decisions all around the world. Overall I feel they are a farce now and long overdue for a break

Gemili (20.08) and Guliyev (20.09) 3rd and 4th in their heat right now. The two fastest losers through two heats. Lots of our guys on the bubble.
