Schippers didn't run well in the final.
It really hurt her being in Lane 9.
Tori Bowie took silver, but in the semis Schippers ran down and beat Bowie.
So I think if she had a better lane closer to the action, she would have medaled.

interesting how the only white sprinter in the women's 100m final gets the worst lane draw possible. She never had a chance, she closed well but was never in it. Even after being an automatic qualifier for the final....suspicious me thinks.

A Dutch friend is coming out to Sydney tomorrow with the story (from Dutch sources). Until last Thursday week ago she was entertaining going back to Netherlands but an injury hurting her during acceleration phase improved enough to let her compete.
Hopefully this will affect her less in the 200 (if it's not worse after the rounds of 100) since a greater proportion of the race is speed endurance

Schippers should of easily fought for 3rd if her lane assignment was better...but her start looked weak and she looked like she was running heavy. Elaine Thompson peaking at the right time, her start was amazing especially for someone with her long legs. The 200 is going to be tough for Dafne, I think Thompson takes it, Dafne and Bowie for 2nd. Something about Dafne dosen't seem right, she looks heavy or possibly recovering from a injury of some sort.... anyways, regarding the 100 meters, I don't think Dafne has even hit her peak yet, she is still 1-2 years away from being very dominant in the 100. Regarding Lemaitre today, Good Luck buddy, you will need it...I just hope he at least makes the final in the 200.

It looked like Schippers slipped coming out of the blocks. She got off to a bad start and couldn't close quickly enough at the end. And as someone mentioned earlier, there was no mention by the commentators of the Jamaicans being caught for performance enhancing drug use.

Lemaitre finished quickly for a season best 10.07 on the biggest stage of all. Not bad at all considering his season and I hope a good omen for the 200

LeMaitre's run is decent considering his positioning in lane 9, with a lane 8 scratch. Absolutely no one to push him.

I predict a sub-10 out of Taftian and Yamagata within the next two years.

Christophe's run has cheered me a little - he still is obviously the most talented white sprinter on the planet and certainly in the mix of 2nd tier quality international sprinters. Let's hope that 10.07 basic and a strong back end will give him a more confident demeanor as he lines up for the 200 (assuming no injury was aggravated)

Yes she had no contact with the main competitors, she was running against a stop watch without much of a chance to gauge what was going on. But that's what happens in a 3 semi final format if you don't win your race. At worst she was 4th of the 8 runners that lined up at the finals off of semi final form. I wouldn't be surprised that reports of an injury are true as she lacked the form of Beijing in 15'. Thompson has to be the pre race favorite for the 200 of of her 100 meter form.

Regarding Schippers, I read a Dutch news report and she has a groin injury. A few days ago, it looked like she wouldn't be able to run at all.
But, just today or yesterday, she started to feel good again. However, it was obvious that she wasn't quite her normally strong self.
So, don't know what to expect in the 200m.

Very proud of Lemaitre. It's been the toughest season of his career missing the Euro Champs, battling injuries and having average times. He showed up tonight. A 10.07 on the biggest stage with no wind in the worst lane. Good job Christophe!

The Asian Sprinters are really becoming a force despite none of them making the finals. They are becoming world class. They even took the silver medal in the 4 x 100 at last years world champs. Have to give them credit.

Actually, I think Asian sprinters have surpassed white sprinters at this point. At least at the top level in the 100 meters.
Whites are still much better at the 200m.

Van Niedrik's 43.03 Race was AMAZING. More impressive than Bolts 9.58 and 19.19 in my opinion.
I am glad at Lemaitre's time, it should be a confidence booster for him take to the 200 meters, nice time from Lane 9.

it's just you mate. Those emaciated bodies and skinny arms do nothing for me . Mind you, could be worse - look at the skin stretched over the bones of many of the marathoners.
Interesting to note how many of the best track athletes over the years, especially decathletes, have had a genetic mixture of winning talent

I guess it may depend on whether she's aggravated it. There was talk of her maybe not running the relay when I was over there for the Euros (luckily for the Dutch record she did) so perhaps it's been a long time building up. The acceleration phase in that 200 is not as fierce so it may work out OK
