Incredible time for the "Teaside Tornado" Richard Kilty. It has to be heart breaking to not get the sub 10!
So close but he will get it. Still feel so bad about him having a false start at the euro champs. So unfair.

Tortu has the second fastest 100 meter qualifying time (10.29) in the world juniors. It would be great to see him get a title.

Jack Hale won his heat in 10.48 -0.4 wind, he will have to be much quicker in next round to move forward.

The IAAF site still lists 10.05 as Kilty's PB. Maybe they have to do a review.

Hope he can hit a home run in the London Diamond League.

Wow, that is a good point. There hasn't been this many white guys running 10.0 times since the 80's. If this rate keeps up, odds are that one or two of them will enter the 9.9x realm. But sad to think that the 90's and the '00's had only one white in each going in the 10.0x range without altitude or wind helping.

Ewa Swoboda should contend for the gold medal in the U20 championships. She qualified with a wind aided 11.10.

and Jack Hale doesn't produce when it counts. Eleven qualifiers faster than he was. His 10.21 in Germany becomes 10.45 within 3 weeks.

With some notable exceptions, the Australian tradition of athletes not being able to peak for the northern hemisphere season continues. Many of them carrying overtraining injuries as they struggle to reach some sort of form.
I guess that's what happens when they need to set a qualifier too early in the year

I agree with that. We don't need to see gang signs on the track with all the violence in the world today.

Oliver Bromby of England missed making the finals by thousands of a second. He would have beat the kid
from Brazil but he leaned to early. That caused the tie and the tie breaker. What a heart break but at least
he is only 18. This kid is very talented and he ran another p.b. today.

It was sad to see Jack Hale under acheive. That was proably a combo of a long season and nerves. He seemed
to come on late in the race but it was already out of reach. Hale will be back for sure. The kid is amazing.

anyone surprised at how easily Beyenu Degefa won the girls 3,000m? I mean she won by almost 5 seconds, the announcer mentioned her PB but she killed it by over 15 seconds I think I heard this amount although I am not certain. She was not even considered to be a threat to make top 8 in the race and suddenly she destroys the field after a very fast first 2600m..hmmmm PEDS? There was also mentioning of a female Bahrain afflete(Ethiopian transplant) named Marta Hirpato looking much older than U20 easily winning her heat in the 800m semi's. It was nice to see a Canadian white girl do well in the semi's with the 3rd fastest time in the semi's, she can go alot faster still.

Me thinkee there is rotten cheese in Poland starring Bahrain and Ethiopia.......

Tortu had a terrible start in the 100m final but was closing fast to take silver. Who knows what would have happened if he had gotten a better start. The British afflete failed badly lol after giving a crips gang sign again at the blocks.. Looks like he leaned to far to the right and could not stop himself from going into other lane(pretended hamstring issue) wasnt even DQ'd for lane violation lol Here is the race...

Yes, Tortu got a poor start, but maintained his composure and came back nicely. Like Sprintstar said, if he would've gotten out with everyone, it could've been special. He does have 10.19 PB.

I'm happy for Tortu despite him getting the silver. He is still the 2nd fastest in the world right now in this championship. Something to be proud of. It couldn't come at a better time as Simone Collio retired and Fabio Cerruti probably will at the
end of this summer. They now have a legitimate threat for the future. Let's hope a few more young itallian stallians rise up to and compete at the level of Tortu.

Oh man, I have watched the u20 womens 100m final several times and have to say Swoboda ran very fast but was a little cockeyed out of the blocks, her drive phase is a little upright as her head comes up within 2 strides. I will say she was closing on Hill fast and would have got her if she had another 3m. Once again the British commentators are so pro afflete..he actually said Swoboda had a "decent run" and the British afflete had a "very good run for fourth" barely mentions the third place finisher as well. What a total MAROON lol Swoboda has an incredible future ahead of her and I can see her breaking 11 seconds by next year.....well done!

At the Diamond League meet in London, Lemaitre came in 5th in the 200m losing to not only Usain Bolt, but Adam Gemili, and Bruno Hortelano.
Lemaitre gave up his title as fastest European in the 100m a long time ago.
Now he is no longer the fastest European 200m sprinter, or even the fastest white European sprinter.
He is just a pretty good sprinter. Nothing more.
Time to let him go.
