I feel terrible for Danny Woodhead and I hope this isn't the end of his career. His usage in the first two weeks had him on track for a dazzling statistical season, maybe even 1,000 receiving yards after leading the league in receiving yards for a RB (755 yards) last year with limited playing time. What might have been...

Unless Giovanni Bernard is injured and Rex Burkhead takes over as the 3rd down back in Cincinnati or Zach Zenner takes over for an injured Abdullah, there's not much to root for at RB until the collegiate mega-star from Stanford, Christian McCaffrey, presumably plays in the NFL in 2017. In an fair NFL, McCaffrey will be a first round pick and have a career similar to that of Jamaal Charles.

Damn, this is a bummer. The main reason I followed the Chargers. But I guess if AP can get injured anyone RB can in this league. Thrashen you right, 2016 was looking to be a stellar year for Woody. Incredible loss to our cause. Hope Burkhead and Zenner get their chance to carry the rock and excel at it like Woody. Damn!

The guy who's running the Browns is an Affirmative Action lawyer named Sashi Brown. He has no football background. The only reason he got the job is that he's black. He's totally incompetent.

Brown passed on Wentz and traded the number two pick. He preferred proven bust Robert Griffin over Wentz, probably because Griffin is black and Wentz is white.

The Browns under Sashi Brown are a joke.

Eh I'll be a hypocrite here because I have been as critical as anyone of the Browns and their personnel department but they are applying analytics and a moneyball approach to football. They whiffed on the gremlin for sure but I want to see what Kessler does. Jackson picked the gremlin but he also picked Kessler. If anything the Browns qb situation makes Manziel look like an even bigger ******* for squandering his spot on the team.

There was no rhyme or reason to their draft picks. There was no consistency that indicated some sort of system. They drafted players with bad measurables and good production. They drafted players with good measurables and bad production. They passed on players with good measurables and good production. It made no sense. It was just random.

I think this whole analytics, moneyball approach that the Browns are selling was just a way for non-football people to get a gullible owner to give them lucrative jobs.

The fact that they passed on a potential franchise quarterback shows their incompetence.

Notice on that Matthews TD run, Prosinski was the only Bear to read that sweep correctly, but had to wade through a jumble of confused affleets, and Matthews beat him to the goal line....

Right now football analytics consists of 40 time, arm length and skin color. Production is not valued as much as it should be and all of the combine measurables are given way to much value which explains the diluted product on the field. The Browns are applying analytics to football by actually valuing production along with measurables. They drafted three very highly productive white defensive players in Nassib, Schobert and Scooby Wright. They drafted a very good college QB and a white o-lineman in Spencer Drango who fell because he had short arms yet has been a solid player thus far. The run on receivers was questionable for sure but if Kessler pans out for them at QB and the Browns continue to improve using analytics and drafting more white players than I am all for it.

I do agree that they gambled and missed out on Wentz after putting to much faith in the fragile gremlin however we should really see how Kessler does. He was a great QB at USC and excelled in the short to medium passing game. Hue Jackson who did foolishly give way too much attention to the Gremlin has also spoke highly of Kessler and it sounds like it may have been his decision to take Kessler. They also have another Pac 12 QB in Hogan who can be developed.

Honestly with teams like the Bills, Giants, Dolphins, Steelers etc. with established "football men" marching out coal black teams the Browns are a breath of fresh air.

 

[Toby Hillis]

Chargers now have no one at RB behind Melvin Gordon, who was a huge flop last year but has looked better so far this year. It would make perfect sense to sign California high school legend and Doak Walker award winner Toby Gerhart. Gerhart is easily the best available unsigned running back. But common sense very rarely prevails over racial politics in the NFL.

I think that everyone here has the same thought process--maybe Toby can get a look in San Diego. Then I thought about the great depth the Chargers have at running back. Case in point, Brandon Oliver:

Oliver is the 5' 7" 205 lb running back who ran a 4.62 40 at his PRO DAY (hand timed). While at the University of Buffalo, he averaged a hefty 5 ypc and has averaged 3.6 ypc during his stellar NFL career. I don't think Toby and his Heisman-esque college resume, his "pedestrian" 4.5 combine timed 40 and his below average 4.2 career ypc avg in the NFL can compete with such an elite athlete. Come to think of it, it's no wonder Toby is out of the league when there's studs like Oliver on 32 NFL rosters getting opportunity after opportunity.

I think Brandon Weagher would fit nicely in SD.
I don't think Gerhart has much of a chance of getting a look. He disappointed big time last year.
It may have been mainly due to injuries, but I don't think anyone is going to give him a chance.

Unfortunately I don't think Toby Gerhart will ever get another chance, he's done. The same will mostly likely be true for Brandon Wegher. While players like Kabri Bibbs who is somehow Denver's 3rd RB. But he's not big,strong, nor fast (5'9" 4.67 40 at the combine.) But yet he somehow keeps a roster spot.

We're only talking about Gerhart being a backup, not a starter. It's all a moot point now anyway as the Chargers signed 5'9" 165 lb Dexter McCluster. Chargers DWFs will likely greet this signing with some enthusiasm, whereas if Gerhart had been signed there would have been much howling and gnashing of teeth.

Said it before but, Gerhart was an idiot, he should have sat himself and healed up. No line, injured, and he played on did himself out of a job, a year on IR he might have got another shot, not after last year.

Wegher should be on an NFL roster.. He's bigger faster stronger than the underachieving midget the Chargers signed today and 85% of NFL Rbs! I still like Gerhart but I too think he's likely done in this black power league. Wegher is younger and I think at this point more explosive and dynamic than Toby who was a bruiser with quick feet.

I think he'd have a shot to catch on somewhere as a fullback, although I'd hate to see him be wasted as a lead blocker, but what team wouldn't want a threat like Gerhart lined up at fullback?

I'm curious to see if Zach Line gets a few touches with Peterson out...

NFL ratings down 10% so far this season. Colin Cuckherd blames it on Trump and Hillary and the fact that it's a Presidential election year. He could be right I guess, but that's a mute point to the advertisers who are probably more inclined to blame it on Kaepernick and the other ignorant and ungrateful ilk that are protesting some vague "social injustice" by disrespecting the flag and turning off a certain percentage of viewers. Perhaps the only color the NFL cares about more than black is the green (money) that helps pay for their product. If the ratings stay this way, it'll be interesting to see how the NFL and the networks handle it.
