2016 Indoor Track Season

Igor Obraztsov who is only 20 years of age ran a 6.68 recently in a indoor track meet in Russia. A new name on the horizon. That is a very fast opener for anyone yet a guy who is that young. Hope this is only the beginning of a long successful career.

Here's a new guy from Britain, 19 year old Kyle De Escofet.
He just set a new PB (personal best) of 6.71 in Austria.
Never heard of him before, but hopefully will be hearing a lot from him in the future.

Here is Julian Reus running a German record tying 60m in 6.53 seconds.
He completely runs away from the field.

Kate Hall is now a freshman at Iowa State.
In case you don't know her name, last year she broke the oldest women's high school record in the books; that being the HS long jump record, which was 39 yrs old.
She broke the record with an incredible jump of 22ft, 5inches. That jump also broke the US junior record (under 20 yrs old) which had been held by Carol Lewis.
Now she is a collegiate and broke the Iowa State record in the 60m in her first race! Her time of 7.30 is the 16th fastest in the world.
She also broke the school record in the long jump - 21ft, 5.5inches.

From these early indicators, it looks like she is going to be another Jenna Prandini (who won the Bowerman Award as College Track's Top Woman Athlete for 2015)

John Teeters just won the 60m at the Razorback Invitational in a great time of 6.54.
So as of this moment, the top 3 60m times in the world belong to 1/an Iranian - 6.52; 2/Julian Reus - 6.53; 3/John Teeters - 6.54

Ewa Swoboda won the 60m in Luxembourg today. Her time of 7.13 is a new national record, a European junior record and the fastest time in the world!

Some more good results from the British - Adam Gemeli opened his season with a win in the 60m in 6.59. It was not only his first race of the season, but first race since injuring his hamstring early last year. He also beat James Dasaolu who is the reigning European Champion.
Andrew Robertson ran 6.62. Robertson has slowly been improving season to season. His current time is faster than Lemaitre's.
Hannah Brier from Wales ran 7.39, which is a great time considering she's still a teenager.
Seren Bundy-Davies ran a world leading time in the 400m, 51.60.
Sebastian Roger ran 46.48 on the men's side.

A lot of good early results for this little country.

Teeters looks like he will break the sub 10 barrier and be either the 2nd or 3rd White sprinter to do so (depending on your views on Gemeli). With luck he could enter the Flagstaff meet or a meet in the deep south and do it in April.

More fast sprinting from Europe.
Rebekka Haase, the under 23 European Champion, turned in some blazing times this weekend in Germany.
She ran 7.17 in the 60m, tied for 3rd fastest in the world this year.
She also ran 23.40 in the 200m, 8th fastest in the world.

The women's sprints are really hot right now - Schippers, Haase, Prandini, Swoboda, and a couple of Ukranians, are all in the mix at the top level!

2016 is the most exciting year for our guys in a while to be honest...although LeMaitre has regressed there have been some exciting developments. Ramil Guliyev returned from half a decade of irrelevance to rise to one of the world's elite 200m runners. Lykourgos-Stefanos Tsakonas followed a similar path. Interesting to note the two seem to be great friends, odd considering the history of the two countries..

Bingtian Su and Adam Gemili further annihilated the myth that only West Africans were capable of running sub-10.

Someone mentioned the Iranian sprinter who ran 6.52. Another person to watch is Hassan Taftian of Iran who ran 10.10 last year.

Ewa Swoboda is having a great season, and just stepped up to the top level of sprinting with a 7.07 World Junior Record in Poland this evening!
It is also equal the fastest time in the world this year.
Now I'm hoping both Schippers and Swoboda can medal at the Olympics this summer.

What a phenom. That time is incredible and to do this at her young age just blows my mind. Another elite
sprinter who is beautiful. Wow I'll bet the guys chase her like crazy. The problem is they can't catch her. She
has to be faster than many guys who are athletes. The girl has some wheels on her. Congrats Ewa. Hope you
can help inspire some of the young girls and boys in Poland.

Richard Kilty won the 60 meters final at the Scottish Indoor Champs in a time of 6.59! So he is starting
to round into form. I expect him to get his times around a tenth faster in the next month or so.

John Teeters ran 6.56 today in a preliminary race today.
He runs in the final tomorrow.

Dafne Schippers just took back the World Lead in the 60m (previously held by her and Ewa Swoboda).
She ran 7.04 in the heats at Berlin today.
Let's see what she does in the final!

Unbelievable. We are in a golden age of a revival of white sprinters. Especially on the womens side. Not since the days of East Germany have we seen women run this fast and these girls are clean. They pass the drug tests and the eye tests. Unlike many of the americans, jamaicans and others who get caught cheating year after year.

The Summer Olympics is going to be hotter than ever. Hope we see history being made with our girls.


Now we need our men to step it up. I'm hoping for Kristoffer Hari to take it up a notch this year among many others. I still think Julian Reus is capable of a sub 10 or a few before the year is over. He hss bees so close 2 years in a row. Teeters is on the brink and I"m sure we will see others. I really hope Lemaitre can return to his form of around 4 to 5 years ago. Can't believe he still has the same coach. Oh well. Also watch for Richard Kilty and Gemeli. Good luck to all these young men and women that we root for.

He had the fastest 60m time in the heats yesterday, but later had the 55th fastest time in the 200m.
And now today, he didn't run in the semis of the 60m.
Not a good sign.

Meanwhile, Reus was DQ'd in the Berlin meet, so not sure about what to expect from him.

I think Gemeli and Kilty are the best bets in the 100m on the men's side, and Gemeli and Guliyev in the 200m.
Regarding Lemaitre, we're better off having no expectations of him.

60 Meter Times are not always indicative to running Sub 10. Look at Kilty with many Sub 6.50's...If you don't have that Natural Top end speed, running sub 10 is very difficult. I don't think Teeters or Reus will get Sub 10. Maybe 10.03 or so, thats about it. They don't have that natural spring in their step and acceleration after 50 meters. I think Guliyev can get to Sub 10 if he gets the right guidance, maybe a trip to France under Caraz will help Kidding...But Guiliyev has potential to hit Sub 10. Regarding Lemaitre.... I'm about to enjoy a nice dinner and don't want it ruined. thanks.

I agree that Guiliyev has sub-10 potential, but his start is terrible and he is focused on the 200m, so I don't think he will get there.
I don't know if Teeters, Reus, or Kilty will either. I just think that by the end of the year Gemeli and Kilty will have the fastest times of the white sprinters - which was the case in 2015.
