Andrew Robertson 6.54 was second in British Championships - a big PR from 6.61 a few years back. (Dasaolu won in 6.53). Kilty DQed. NOTE: from a Twitter feed so will need to be confirmed.

First off I'm very sad about the dq of Richard Kilty. He was the class of the field and he deserved better. It appears he was the last to leave the blocks yet he got the disqualification. It makes no sense. Hope they send him anyway.

As for Andrew Robertson, he has done things over the last 4 to 6 years that amaze me. He has never had funding or the proper trainers, coach's, nutrtitionists, etc. He has always worked a full time job. In a fair world if all he did was run I believe he quite possible would have already run a few sub 10's. Very talented sprinter who just hasn't had the financial opportunites(funding/quiting job) to train at the level necessary. He is as good as anyone on the U.K. Team or at least close. Love the kid. Great result today. Oh so close to gold.

In closing I will reaffirm my case for Julian Reus. He has been the fastest indoor sprinter in all of Europe all winter long yet people still doubt him. He will go sub 10 this summer barring injury. What a indoor season by the greatest German
Sprinter ever other than Armin Hary.

Teeters, 6.64 for 2nd place at the Big 12 Championships.
Don't know what happened to him. :(

Perhaps he choked under pressure.
I've noticed that in most indoor meets this year and last year, he would only run in the heats and then skip the finals.
Presumably to save himself from injury. But I don't think it's a good strategy. One needs to get used to performing under pressure.
It seems like he had some screw-up in one of the big outdoor meets last year too.

Hannah Cunliffe of Oregon won the 60m at the Mountain Pacific Championships. Her time was 7.21.
Jenna Prandini won the title last year.
Basically this is the Pac-12 Championships + other schools out west - BYU, Utah, etc.

17 yr old Toby Harries, won the 200m at the British National Indoor Championships!
It's great that Britain keeps turning out white sprinters.

And the US has a few too.... at the Big 12 Championships,
"Texas senior Zack Bilderback won the 200 and 400 meter titles and broke school records in the process. Bilderback took the 200 in 20.79 seconds and set a meet record in the 400 at 45.27 seconds."
Sam Watts of Britain was 2nd in the 200 with the same time of 20.79.

Su Bingtian is by far the best asian sprinter I've ever seen and there have been some good ones. I expect a big year from him.

Julian Reus is about to join the elite sub 10 club. I would be shocked if he fell short again. Remember his 10.01 time was only .001 over the legal allowable wind. His wind legal p.b. time is 10.05 but he eased off in that race almost 10 meters out. A huge mistake that he has to live with everyday. It is his destiny to at least break the mark once but hopefully more than that.

My wish for this summer is for Reus, Kilty and Guliyev to all break through into the sub 10 club.

Kilty has the fastest 60m of them all, but his problem has been holding his speed over the final 40m. He says that that this year he has focused on that. Maybe that's why his 60 times are slower this season....maybe not. Let's see what happens this summer.

Reus has improved his 60m time, but he's still not as fast as Kilty, so I'm not sure that his faster 60m time is going to translate to a sub-10 time. Reus reigns supreme in Germany, but he has never competed well internationally. Let's see if he can overcome that this summer.

Guliyev, I believe, has the fastest top end speed of these 3 guys. Watch him run 19.88 in the 200m.
But he rarely runs the 100m, and he probably won't run it much this year either. So I'm not expecting him to get a sub-10.

Kyle De Escofet, a 19 year old from Britain, is now down to 6.67 in the 60 meters.
That puts him in the Top 20 in Europe.

It blows my mind how many more white sprinters and jumpers Britain has vs. the USA!
If they were to go head-to-head, white Britain vs white USA in the sprints, hurdles, and jumps, Britain would completely annihilate America!! and that's not an exaggeration.

It's amazing really. They are a very small country, and they have plenty of blacks participating in track, but that doesn't preclude whites from also participating and excelling.
More evidence of the caste system in the US.

Kyle De Escofet lowered his PB to 6.61 at the British National Championships yesterday. Wow!
Never heard of this kid before this year and now he is #11 in Europe
Britain has 4 white guys in the top 11 - De Escofet, Kilty, Robertson, and Gemeli (plus 3 blacks). That is Amazing! for such a small country!!
Germany has Reus and Blum, but basically at this time, a team of 4 white guys from Britain is faster than the entire rest of white Europe!

Zack Bilderback's 45.27 time at the Big 12 Championships, is the #2 time in the world!
Perhaps Zack is ready to break through to the upper tier of 400m sprinters in the US. Hope so! The event has been dry since Jeremy Wariner slowed down.

I don't think Reus wanted to go.... a lot of people are passing on the World Indoor Championships because they want to start focusing on their preparations for the summer Olympics.

At the NCAA Indoor Champs today we had the finals of the mens & womens 60 meters for the national championship. Hannah Cunliffe finished 2nd in a very fast time of 7.12. John Teeters finished 4th in the finals of the mens running a 6.53 in the race. Congrats to both of these sprinters on a very exciting indoor season.

Cunliffe lost the 60m by 1/100 of a second! Too bad. But a silver medal is not bad. She also took 3rd in the 200m.
Meanwhile Devon Allen is back from injury and won the NCAA Indoor 60m Hurdles.
Zack Bilderback of Texas won the 400m.

This is how I rate them currently in the 100m:
1/Gemeli - obvious #1. Ran sub-10 last season.
2/Kilty - World and Euro Champ in the 60m. Has been running longer races to improve his finishing speed.
3/Teeters - Ran 9.95 last year with 2.6 wind. Runs consistent, good times at 60m and 100m.
4/Lemaitre - immensely talented, woefully trained and conditioned. Still manages to perform decently once or twice/season.
5/Guilyev - ran 19.88 200m last season. Rarely runs 100m and has a terrible start.
6/Reus - runs well in German meets, but not internationally.

I can see an argument for Kilty and Teeters swapping spots, but Kilty has much more experience and especially championship experience than Teeters.
I can also see an argument for Guilyev and Reus swapping spots, but Guilyev is a more proven performer recently than Reus.

So here's how we ended up in 2016 vs. early year speculation.
1/ Gemili - Focused on the 200m and ranked 3rd in the world. Best 100m time was 10.11/19.97.
2/ Kilty - ran 10.01 at a small meet, but generally did not meet expectations
3/ Teeters - ran 10.00 in the heats of the Olympic Trails, but overall not as good a season as 2015.
4/ Lemaitre - finally pulled himself together to win a Bronze medal at the Olympics in the 200m. Ran 10.07 in the semis at the Olympics, and 20.01 in the 200m.
5/ Guilyev - ran 10.07 at the European Championships in a semi-final. 20.09 at the Olympics.
6/ Reus - had some great times in Germany including a 10.01. Choked as usual once he set foot outside of Germany. 20.39 in the 200m.
Bruno Hortelano of Spain was the new face on the scene. Ran 10.06 NR in the 100m and 20.12 NR in the 2oom.
