Tuesday night MACtion kicks off the football week.

Bowling Green lost to Toledo.

The prolific BGSU QB Matt Johnson with another very solid performance in the loss: 28/44 274 yds 3 tds and 2 INTs

WR Gehrig Dieter continues his hot streak over the last few weeks 13 receptions 103 yds and 3 tds

WR Ryan Burbink had 2 receptions for 28 yards

Ball St. vs Ohio is ongoing. Ball State has a really good freshman QB Riley Neal - he looks pretty impressive. With QBs like Matt Johnson and Philip Ely in their final year of eligibility - Neal might be bringing Ball St. up in prominence over the next few years.

A.J. Oulette has 20 carries for 85 yards and 2 tds to this point.

On a side note the MAC does have some pretty good QBs, going back to the early-mid 00s they produced some very good QBs - Big Ben, Chad Pennington and Bruce Gradkowski. It will be interesting to see how Matt Johnson and Ely are viewed during the draft process.

Very nice game by A.J. I haven't seen him play live too much since he is in a smaller conf. Glad to see him put on a clinic of how to run and catch the ball.

ESPN2 announcers predictably remind us WR Daniel Braverman is like Julian Edelman & Wes Welker; size-wise; fearless over the middle...+ high octane personality...already has 6 receptions for 81 yards & TD in 1st half

Jessie Kroll (Central Michigan) 5-101-0...in the 1st half

Yes indeed...Gehrig Deiter made a couple of Top 10 Play of the Day catches....one-handed TD with right hand...& one-handed TD w left hand...Big time receiver!

Glad to see AJ get the ball more again!

Jesse Kroll, Central Michigan's top receiver, already has 5 catches for 101 yards ... in the first half.

as was mentioned above, Western Michigan's Daniel Braverman already has 6 catches for 81 yards and this 35-yard catch-and-run, tightrope-walking touchdown. isn't it "weird" that his blazing speed, incredible agility and explosive change of direction skills don't mean he's talented or athletic? i "wonder" why that is ...

*********************

last night, Gehrig Dieter was a one-man highlight reel. he had not one, but TWO one-handed touchdown catches, and he hauled in a total of 3 tds on the evening, as he finished with 13 catches for 103 yards. see the videos below.

Catch of the Year followed by just another unbelievable grab courtesy of overachievement

this time he actually uses both hands

edited to add: a hat tip to TwentyTwo for beating me to some of this info while i was writing up my post and attaching the links.

Anyone else watching the Western Michigan/N. Illinois game with the two announcers talking about the black WR Corey Davis and the white WR Daniel Braveman's NFL prospects. Unbelievable how blatantly obvious in how they said the black WR had an NFL future and the white WR had an NFL opportunity but does not have the "measurables".

yeah, i heard that, as well. "weird" how Braverman's 10.6 speed in the 100-meters isn't "measurable" enough ... huh? yet Davis, who clearly isn't nearly as fast (though still has plenty of speed) is somehow an elite speedster ...

to add to the comparison, both were two-star recruits by Rivals and are very different players. Davis is bigger (6-foot-3) and stronger, while Braverman (5-foot-10) is quicker and with better hands. yet all that matters is Davis is black, and Braverman is blue collared, lunch pailed, and hard hatted.

Eastern Carolina tight end Bryce Williams is having a good night, so far. at the half, he has 6 catches for 47 yards in what looks to be a blowout win over Central Florida.

the Air Force-Boise State game last night was very entertaining, though i would've preferred the Broncos to have emerged with the win.

Air Force's triple-option gave the Bronco defense FITS all night, and they repeatedly ripped Boise for BIG plays, including a 48-yard touchdown run by Timothy McVey, a 56-yard catch-and-run by McVey, and a 51-yard touchdown catch-and-run by tight end Garrett Griffin (among others). the Falcons were also able to get pressure on Boise's true freshman quarterback Brett Rypien frequently, resulting in a rather inaccurate (for him) passing night.

Griffin ended with a game-high 107 yards and the touchdown on 3 catches.

Thomas Sperbeck was once again the team leader through the air for Boise, hauling in 7 passes for 79 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown catch-and-run.

tight end Jake Roh chipped in with 4 catches for 58 yards.

how do you go from being a two-time walk-on to becoming a Heisman candidate?

Baker Mayfield has done it.

the OU quarterback is one of the most exciting players in the country ... so, if you're a coaching staff who missed on a player like this, shouldn't you re-evaluate how you evaluate talent?

here's OU's recently released Heisman hype video:

so far, Iowa State speedster (and walk-on) Trever Ryen has accounted for all of the Cyclones' passing attack: 3 catches for 36 yards and this easy touchdown romp.

he has also returned 2 kicks for 50 yards, already.

Michigan's talented tight end, Jake Butt, just scored a 26-yard touchdown at Penn State. Butt needs just 28 yards to become the sixth Wolverines tight end to crack 1,000 career receiving yards.

Citadel's 217-pound "fullback" Tyler Renew just put his team up 14-3 at South Carolina with this touchdown run. the second quarter is about to start, and Renew "somehow" already has 8 carries for 49 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.

********************

Iowa's Matt VandeBerg just scored on a bubble screen to put Iowa up 20-0 at home against Purdue.

Here's a blurb from recent article on him and players like him:

In high school, Mayfield was a good decision maker and a quick, tough runner in the QB option game. He had the arm strength to make all the necessary throws on vertical and horizontal stretch concepts and the ability to combine his legs, arm and vision to buy time.

If that sounds like the generously listed 6'1 player you've been watching at Oklahoma this season, well, it is! After Mayfield's success at Oklahoma, and the success of the fellow diminutive three-star Manziel, you wonder if major institutions will start ignoring size as a limiting factor for QBs.

Ha! They are attributing it to "size" even though in almost every case it's because of skin color (being White). And Manziel is not "diminutive". The real "diminutive" ones are the 5'7"/5'8" 160/170lb black cornerbacks that litter the college recruiting ranks every year, each of them with athletic scholarship in hand. "Funny" how they aren't being "ignored".

Epic win by Michigan State over Ohio State on the road. They beat the defending national champs. I love it.

Nice win by UCLA at Utah today too. Josh Rosen is a very good qb. Love the kid.

here's the video of Tyler Renew's 56-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring in Citadel's upset win. the 217-pound "fullback" is clearly running away from all those "superior" affletes in the SC SEC defense. "weird," huh?

in the FCS, the nation's best wide receiver at any level, Cooper Kupp, has 7 catches for 132 yards and 1 touchdown at the half. his team has only completed 10 passes for 165 yards and the single aforementioned score. not bad for an overachiever with "deceptive" speed and a blue collar under his Eastern Washington red uniform. *smirk*

Good day today. Went pheasant hunting and got a rooster with the longest shot I've ever made on a pheasant then I get to come home and watch Christian McAffrey rip off that beautiful 49 yard TD run.

We need more like him!

Epic win by Michigan State over Ohio State on the road. They beat the defending national champs. I love it.

Surprised but happy with the Michigan State win. Just to show what d-bags the Buckeye players some of them turned on the coaches and basically quit on Urban Meyer:

Junior running back Ezekiel Elliott turned pro at the podium during the postgame press conference – but not until after ripping the Ohio State play-calling in the Buckeyes’ 17-14 upset loss to the Spartans. Quarterback Cardale Jones – the unexpected hero of 2014 turned ineffective starter in 2015 turned backup again in recent weeks – tweeted that he, too, is apparently going pro.

“What happened today was like a bad, bad dream,†Elliott said, after a 12-carry, 33-yard performance that snapped a run of 16 straight 100-yard rushing games. “I’m disappointed. I’m disappointed in the play-calling. I’m disappointed in the situation we were put in.
“We weren’t put in the right position to win this game.â€
Elliott wasn’t done. He initiated the topic, and he made his point perfectly clear. On a night when his Heisman Trophy candidacy likely died alongside Ohio State’s national title hopes, Elliott emptied the rhetorical chambers on Meyer and his beleaguered co-offensive coordinators, Ed Warinner and Tim Beck.
“I think I do deserve more than (12) carries,†Elliott said. “... I don’t know what was going on.â€
Elliott said he lobbied on the sideline to get the ball more. When asked whom he specially asked, he said Meyer. On a rainy, windy evening, the passing game was both risky and unsuccessful, and still Elliott got his second-lowest number of carries in the last 17 games.

Urban Meyer getting the treatment he so richly deserves from the thugs he rents to play football at the factory in the capital of Ohio. More of the inmates trying to run the asylum, similar to Missouri where the football criminals got the president fired.
