Carina Horn, a South African sprinter mentioned earlier this year, ran a very good 100m in Austria today beating a field of American, Jamaican, and Nigerian sprinters:
100m (-0,1) 1/ Carina Horn 11.21

At the same meet, Laura Roesler won her first professional race since leaving Oregon.

Meanwhile in Poland, a new name to me - Jakub Krzewina - ran a 45.11 in winning the 400m. Hope there's more to come from this new Pole.

I'm not going to go deep on this one but Poland always seems to produce a good number of runners. They are never great but they always produce some quality. As disheartening it is to see Darius Kuc regress they have a bunch of young and upcoming men. They always seem to produce a fast junior 4 x 100 meter relay team if I recall.

Schippers to sprint

Following her national records of 11.03 and 22.34 in both the 100m and 200m on the same day in Glasgow on Saturday, Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands has decided to focus on sprinting instead of the heptathlon for the European Athletics Championships in Zurich this summer.
In addition to setting those records, she leads the European Athletics Rankings over the two distances and it seems only natural she dedicate herself to these events.
However Schippers will not leave the heptathlon behind as she expects to compete in the multi-events at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing next year.
Still only 22, Schippers is one of Europe’s most promising young athletes and could become just the tenth women athlete to achieve the 100m/200m double in the history of the European Athletics Championships.

PRAGUE - Czech sprinter Pavel Maslak has suffered a season-ending injury robbing him of a defence of his 400m title at next month's European championships, his manager announced on Tuesday.


"The injury on his right hamstring is not cured enough to give him enough time for quality training ahead of the Zurich championships" on August 12-17, said his manager Alfons Juck.
The 23-year-old reigning 400m world indoor champion tore his hamstring at the end of May.
Maslak had expected to run at the Diamond League meet in Monaco on Friday but withdrew his registration on Monday.

Twenty one year old Patrick Domogala of Germany ran a 10.32 for a new p.b. yesterday. At 21, I was hoping he would have progressed a little further by now but he still has time on his side. One good thing is that he is getting alot more consistant. In the same race, 36 year old Alexander Kosenkow also of Germany ran a 10.28! His fastest time in 4 years. He is supposed to retire at the end of the summer. I give him credit for still finding the desire to compete at such a high level even after all of these years.

We usually talk about the sprints here, but there was an incredible performance in the 800m this wkend.
Pierre-Ambroise Bosse of France ran an amazing time of 1:42.53 for 2nd place in Monaco. He was closing fast on the winner, and with a few more meters would have taken 1st place.
In any event, this is the 4th fastest 800m time by a European ever.
It's also the fastest time by a European since 2001.
Bosse is 22 yrs old.

That's my boy Reus. He ran a new German Record of 10.05 in the semi finals and the time is wind legal. The worst part about it is that he clearly eased up before the finish line and coasted. He had a sub 10 without a doubt and probably just wanted to save some energy for the finals. If only he knew how close he was he could have went for it! Julian ran a 10.05 slowing down on purpose. Damn that is amazing. Here are the results of his semi final heat. Hoping for that magical sub 10 in the final. I predicted he would do it this summer. He is so close. Come on Julian!

What a damn shame. Too much wind just barely! So close but that is how it goes. At least Reus retained his national title however in a photo finish. We need some video posted of these races.

Great race. I am in Germany at the moment and watched the race live on TV.
Honestly I'm quite surprised.
Julian Reus has been running 10.3s all season. In fact he ran 10.38 10 days ago at an international meet in Switzerland. No way would I have predicted this for him.
So let's see what he can do now at the Euro Championships.
I notice he never runs well in international meets. But perhaps he's turned a corner and is moving to an elite level of sprinting.
By the way, I thought Lucas looked great and had won the race. He has those long strides like Lemaitre.

Here is the semi finals race which was wind legal and where Reus set the New German National Record. I could be wrong but I would be willing to bet that he is killing himself mentally for coasting at the end. How many chances in your life does a clean sprinter get at a sub 10? Few if any and the conditions were perfect. So close but yet so far. At least we don't have to hear about the Old East German Record ever again.

Julian Reus races tommorow all day long. He is in the 200 heats and hopefully he will defend his 200 meters as german champion and also
run a new personal best while doing so. They do have to be careful though as the Euro Champs starts on August 12th. No need to push too much for a p.b. Defend your title and stay healthy.

Lucas Jacubzynk as I've said many times is an amazing sprinter. The guy wasted the majority of his career and all of his prime youth years in the long jump. To think what could have been? Damn I wish he was younger. He is a natural long strider and he just eats up the track. If only that wind were 2.0 instead of 2.2 we would have co german record holders in the 100 at a time of 10.01! Regardless, today was special.:rockon:


The future of German Sprinting looks better all of the time.


I'm also anxious to see what Kilty and Gemeli do along with some others in the Commonwealth Games starting tommorow!
