Prandini wins the women's Long Jump with a PR of 21ft 6in.
Fantastic!

Prandini just narrowly took 2nd in the 200m today.
Her time was 22.630. The winner's time was 22.623.
So she lost by 7/1000s of a second. Damn!
She also took 3rd in the 100m race. She basically lost that race at the start, falling behind almost immediately, but then coming back on the field to take 3rd.
Meanwhile freshman football star Devon Aleen won the 110m hurdles in a fantastic time of 13.16!

Devon Allen's (a freshman!) time -13.16 - in the 110 hurdles is the fastest time in the US this year, and the 2nd fastest collegiate time ever! The only faster hurdler was the great Renaldo Nehemiah.
I repeat - he is a freshman!

Now what should he do? He has a great future in track, but he is also a wide receiver on the football team. They certainly won't be able to say he is deceptively fast. So he should get credit as a speedster and hopefully he'll be given the chance to be a great receiver. On the other hand, football will probably hurt him in track. What to do?

Stay in track. Other than Shubenov of Russia, he might be the only sub 13 threat we have in the 110 high hurdles. No white hurdler has ever accomplished this feat. Harder than a sub 10. One asian guy did it. Allen can do it. Stick with track and be a household name. Football
doesn't need him. Track does.:clap2:

what a Meet by Jenna Prandini! she not only excelled in the sprints (third in the 100-meters and second in the 200-meters) and won the long jump (21 feet 6 inches), she also finished as the high point total for ALL THE ATHLETES at the NCAA Championships, male or female. what an athlete! perhaps she will be named Female Track Athlete of the Year.

according to his post-race interviews, he says he is a football-first guy. although, i will say, with his success at this level of track competition coming so quickly (he only practiced track for a month after football season concluded, and he had to lose roughly 20 pounds to run the hurdles), it wouldn't surprise me if he changes his mind and focuses on track long-term.

he is 20 days too old to compete in the World Juniors, but he said after the NCAA Championships that he will compete in the US Championships. either way, he has a brilliant future.

and one more thought on the NCAA Championships … did anyone else see Laura Roesler's third leg on Oregon's 4x400 women's relay? HOLY CRAP! she was flying! why doesn't she run the 400 more often?

At the Euro Team Championships today during day one there was some slow and fast times in the various events. I wanted to touch on just one event. The mens 100 meters finals was won by Jimmy Vicaut. I could care less about that but Danny Talbot took 2nd while Ramil Guliyev finished in 3rd place. Another step in the right direction for Guliyev. Talbot and Guliyev didn't run fast times but any time you get a top 3 finish is a good thing. It is another confidence booster for both of these guys. Hoping for some faster times out of them in the coming weeks.

Hey guys. Here is a nice article on a kid who is a freshman sensation in college. He will run at the US Nationals. Devon
Allen is the real deal. Please let this kid stick with track. He needs to give up football.

Thanks for the article WL. I'm amazed Allen came out of nowhere with that kind of ability. His best time was 13.5 last year but on shorter hurdles. I know he has 10.5 100 meter speed but my question is do you think he can get faster?
Also do you see John Teeters maybe breaking 10.1? I do not. I hope I am wrong but as with Adam Gemilli and Kristoffer Harri I think they may have peaked.
I am not trying to be pesimistic but I got to watch Matt Shirvington live when he ran his 10.03 into the wind back in 1998 and I just got my expectations up thinking he could break 10.0. It seems like when any one of our guys comes out of the blue and does something special they always regress or never improve on it. It is so frustrating. At least Leamitre had a few years in the sun but maybe even his best days are behind him.
To further prove my frustration ( whether real or imagined ) look at Shane Crawford and that dude from Canada who ran for Syracuse that had the 10.15 I believe. Maybe this really all is psychological. These guys run a great time and never get near it again. Even Yamagata and Kiryu of Japan are struggling along with China's Peimeng Zang. There has got to be an answer as to why are guys run great a few times and then vanish what seems like the rest of their track careeers.

Yes in the past I have been frustated with guys falling short like Shirvo, Macro and Nagel to name just a few. It happens. Even with black sprinters many peak early and never come close to those times again. One of our biggest problems other than the psychological problem is basically just a lack of enough elite sprinters competing. If we had a huge interest in athletics within the white community like there is in the black community you would see more sprinters at the top of the bell curve. Too many of our guys play a multitude of other sports and most never even run track. Teeters is just one of countless examples.

I do believe John Teeters can go sub 10. He ran around 3 or 4 times in the 10.1 range this year both with and without wind. He just got nervous at the ncaa champs and tied up bad. The kid will learn from that. Just like Prandini on the womens side, he is too good to fail. I love Devon Allen. You don't run a 13.16 by luck at the highest level of competition in your freshman year unless your gentically gifted.

Hari and Gemeli have not peaked, Gemeli just ran a 10.07 from lane 8 a few weeks ago. He will be a sub 10/sub 20 guy for sure. Kristoffer Hari is only 16/17 so it will be a few years still. He already ran a 10.47 this year wind legal but he has only run twice so far this summer. Expect some 10'3's from him as we get into July and August. There are so many young guys from around the globe. I will have to make a new list of young sprinters to watch. Thomas Sommers and Ryan Gorman are just a few off the top of my head.

The bottom line is to just stay patient my friend. The times will come and once several break the once magical barrier you will see many
more waves in the future. Lemaitre will always be remembered as the first. It still kills me how he has been trained for the last 4 years or so.
He is capable of so much faster times but he like Guliyev has not had the proper guidance at all times. Both of these guys are incredible and they should running with the best in the world all the time. The fact that both have done what they have with neither having much of a drive phase is amazing. Always the last out of the blocks but still able to put up eye popping times. Incedible if you ask me.

Teeters just turned 21 and just finished his second year of college. This season he had two legal 10.14s, a mild wind aided 10.11 and a windy 9.91. I agree, choking in his first real big meet will help him in the long run. His progression has been consistent, indicating he is clean and his body indicates he is lifting weights. I don't think we've seen his peak.

Hari isn't even close. He's just a kid. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he's even started with the weights yet.

I'm in the camp that Lemaitre could've been one of the top sprinters in the world had he done the weights and plyometrics at the appropriate stage in his development. He did not, and has regressed. He is the most naturally talented white sprinter I have ever seen.

Kilty I'm not sure about. Nagel never went faster than 10.13 in the 100 despite his excellent indoor times.

Guliyev is a heartbreaker on par with Lemaitre. Guliyev did 10.08/20.04 as junior then went away.

Linford Christie and Carl Lewis had long careers in sprinting. So did many other black athletes. The only white sprinter I can think of who lasted a while was Pietro Mennea. Even Borzov was only on top in 71 and 72.

The only thing that keeps me hopeful that it is an off year. Meaning no olympics or world championships. Lemaitre is not even trying to compete in the 100 it seems and Hari and Gemilli are hardly racing.
The one piece of good news , well maybe two is Daniel Talbot and Richard Kilty. Kilty has the ability to run a 9.95 right now. Well even Andrew Robertson really improved last year. I guess all 3 british sprinters are a breath of fresh air. Its been proven the white man can break 10 flat. I'm going to disagree with you that there is not a level of participation. More white and asian sprinters ran under 10.2 last year then ever before. I believe it was a total of 13. If Sakalauskas could have gotten his act together and some of the older Italians did their thing it could have been more like 17.
Also what happened to Dennis Demitrov? I had high hopes for the kid and even Dario Horvat.

You are correct WL to stay patient. The answer is statistical - because there are so few White guys who can ignore all the negativity and get to run 10.2 then the probability of a White guy having a brake-out season and run sub-10 is correspondingly low. It is actually the the same for everyone but it isn't so noticeable for a Black athlete because there is always someone right behind to replace them.

Don't forget guys. We have alot of national championships this weekend.

The US Track & Field Championships

The German Championships

The English/UK Championships

I'm excited to some of the times our guys and girls are going to throw down. I think the English/UK Champs could be the best of them all and they are also to decide who will make the team for the European Track & Field Championships later this summer. Come on Kilty and Gemeli. I haven't seen any kind of form from Cackett or Robertson his year. It's a shame as Robertson ran around 10.10 last summer.

Anyone know why Teeters isn't running the 100 at nationals? He was on the submitted list and had qualified, but he must have scratched recently.

Brandon Byram is running the 200.

Collegians Patrick Feeney, Chris Geisting, Neil Braddy, and Zach Bilderback are running the 400.

I'm not sure why Teeters backed out. It would have been some nice experience for him but he is only a sophmore so he will be back!

Your forgetting about Devon Allen who is in the 110 hurdles. What a freshman year in college he had.

Devon Allen wins his heat in 13.42.

Brandon Byram was third in his 200 heat and will qualify for the semi-finals.

Patrick Feeney and Chris Geisting of Notre Dame both failed to qualify for the finals, but had great seasons in the 400.

Over at the UK Champs our guys took a 1-2 finish in the 200 meters finals. Great news for Talbot and Gemeli. It was into a negative wind.

16:25 - 200 METRES - Men - Final OFFICIAL RESULTS
Wind: -0.8 m/s
1 ENG Danny TALBOT BIRCHFIELD 20.42 0.276
2 ENG Adam GEMILI BLACKHEATH 20.61 0.273 SB
3 ENG James ELLINGTON NEWHAM E B 20.64 0.211
4 ENG Delano WILLIAMS ENFIELD H 20.94 0.272
5 ENG Chris CLARKE MARSHALL MILTON KEYNES 21.10 0.241
6 ENG Leon REID BRISTOL AC 21.45 0.256
ENG Kyle ENNIS BANBURY HARRIERS DQ
ENG Jordan KIRBY-POLIDORE WOODFORD G ESSEX L DNS

Then in the mens 100 quarterfinals, Kilty and Robertson both advanced to tommorow. They will run the semi finals
and the finals tommorow afternoon. I hoping for a top 2 or 3 finish for Kilty. He needs to represent the U.K. at the
2014 European Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He would have a chance to win another int'l medal.

10.25 and 4th place at the British Championships for Richard Kilty.
Not a bad time, but I was expecting a lot better from him this season based on his winning the Indoor World Championships.

I have to agree with you jacknyc. Not sure what has happened the last month or so but it might be fatigue for Richard Kilty. When he is supposed to be getting close to peaking he is slowing down. Not a horrible time but he has regressed since his first outdoor race of the season. Most elite sprinters don't bother with indoor sprinting. It makes for too long of a season. How often do you see guys like Bolt, Blake, Powell, Gay or others? They don't waste their time. It's very hard to peak twice in one year. Kilty had peaked indoors and as a result he was the worlds fastest man over 60 meters. Being world champion is incredible but I just think he can't find that form. We still have alot of races to go this summer but it's sad he won't be on the British Team for the Euro Champs and probably the Commonweath Team either. Oh well, He has been through worse. Hopefully he can still break his p.b. in the 100 before the summer ends.

I was very happy to see Andrew Robertson make the final. He ran a seasons best of 10.22 in the semifinals and a 10.30 in the finals. Not bad considering he has had a rough year. He doesn't get the funding these other guys do so working a job and sprinting is not condusive to fast times. He did very good considering if you ask me.

Devon Allen ran a time of 13.23 to reach the finals. A top 3 finish as the US Track & Field Champs would be amazing. I might be asking too much but I'm hoping for the best. What a freshman year in college and now he is in the finals of the national champs. Good luck Devon!

Simply incredible. Devon Allen pulls the unthinkable trifecta of track and field.

He was the Pac 12 Conf. Champion

He then became the NCAA National Champion

He finished it by becoming the US National Champion.

I'm so pumped for the kid. If he leaves track for football then he is an idiot. I love this kid and he was born to run the 110 hurdles. He is only 19 years of age. What an incredible season. You could write a book about it or make a movie. Congrats Devon Allen.
