Recently read on some sort of blog (via google search) that Nick Castallenos was the most "famous Greek athlete in Detroit since Alex Karros"...Has the idiot that wrote it ever heard of Chris Chelios?

I don't know that Castellanos is Greek. His fathers name is Jorge and he was raised in South Florida. According to wikipedia.

A very nice story to start the season is Chris Colabello of the Twins. He not only leads the Twins with 19 RBIs but he leads the entire American League by a four RBI cushion. He’s already collected eight multi-hit games and sits with a .359 batting average, which bumps up to .438 with runners in scoring position (RISP), and then incredibly bumps up even higher to .625 with RISP and two outs.

Colabello is from Italy, he learned to play baseball there before moving to Massachusetts. He wasn't drafted and had to play in the independent league (which makes it hard to get called up). He has always hit well, but I'm sure his background prevented him from drawing a lot of attention. The MLB can have academies in Latin America and go after any hispanic with potential but I guess they are not so eager to find a European and support him.

Anyway I hope he keeps it up. It's a nice story. Wouldn't it be great if more Euros made the Major Leagues?

You might be right, upon further inspection. If you google his name and "Greek" a bunch of links pop-up, mostly message boards and blogs that re-affirm he's Greek....

But look up his family on legit sites (newspapers, wikipedia, ect.) and it says his father, Jorge, is a doctor from Cuba. I suppose he could be a Greek who family emigrated to Cuban, but that's doubtful. Even if he is white-Cuban, most of the Caste media will include him as a Hispanic, no different than Yasil Puig or Mariano Rivera or whatever Mexican?

I like the Angels' white depth. They can have three white men out with injuries and have three more white men to replace them.

Speaking of injuries, at least 3 major stars are out with injuries now. Josh Hamilton, thumb, Bryce Harper will have thumb surgery, and now Mike Trumbo is going to miss 6 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot.

Let's hope that's all for now. There have been some great starts so far this season.

Just a couple random thoughts:

Christian Yelich has been a really good under the radar young white player. I would say he is a pretty good 4 tool player - great defense and speed just needs to work on his power.

The draft is this week - should be interesting to see if many white middle infielders go in the first few rounds.

Scott Van Slyke goes 3-for-3 today with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Of course he's only in the lineup of the dark, dark Dodgers because of injuries to their dark heroes.

Van Slyke started at center field today. Matt Kemp was in left field and is bitter about being bumped out (temporarily) of center. I bet the racial aspect makes him even more upset.

Tony Gwynn is dead from oral cancer at the age of just 54. He attributed getting cancer to chewing tobacco.

Gwynn was one of the three best hitters since World War II, along with Wade Boggs and Rod Carew. He spoke proper English and as far as I know always conducted himself well on and off the field.

I would throw George Brett in there too! The only player to win batting titles in 3 different decades!

Back to Tony. An amazing stat about Gwynn is his low number of strike outs. Gwynn only struck out 434 times in 20 years or 21.7 times/ year! Incredible! Boggs over 700, Brett over 900, and Carew over 1,000.

Mike Trout has already struck out 375 times in 2 and a half seasons including 70 this year. Not to leave Yasil Puig out either. He's struck out 155 times in less than 1 and half seasons, including 58 this year.

Too many strike outs are what's keeping Trout from being the best player of all time!

Gwynn was truly one of the greats.

Right on schedule Mike. Trout is 3 for 5 today with 2 HR's and 4 RBI's and BA. is up to .311. He currently has a 10 game hitting streak.

Clayton Kershaw no-hits the Colorado Rockies! He would have had a perfect game but for an error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez.

15 strikeouts as well against one of the better lineups in baseball, the Colorado Rockies. This is one of the finest pitching performances in my life time. Kershaw is simply the best pitcher in the business right now.

Actually, the BEST hitting lineup in the majors. How many no hitters have happened against the current best hitting team? Sports Historian?

So I see the Blue Jays came back from a 8-0 deficit in the second inning to winning the game 14-9.

I've been noticing some really high scores in baseball lately, but I really do not watch baseball at all... So is scoring up in the MLB or is this normal? Not the 14-9 score of course.

It averages out to normal. There have been quite a few 1-0 games recently as well.

On another topic, Ernesto Frieri just plain sucks. He's singlehandedly cost the Angels so many games that without him, the Angels literally would be leading the AL West over the Oakland A's. I'm not even bothering to count anymore how many home runs he's given up. Night before last he gives up a grand slam to lose it to the Indians. Angels win last night (Frieri didn't pitch).

Not only is he a pathetic excuse for a "closer," he's not even putting up the stats to be a serviceable middle reliever. Send him to the minors and see how well he can do there.

Chris Davis wins it for the Orioles with a walk-off home run, his 13th homer of the year. Davis has been frequently denounced by critics as a "one-season wonder."

San Francisco Giants pitcher and 2-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum pitched the second no hitter of his career against the Padres yesterday.

The Tigers are playing the Texas Rangers this week and I caught some of the game last night. The Tigers are heavily non-white, although that has changed a bit recently. But what surprised me was the Rangers. I remember them when they had guys like Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Mike Napoli, and some other good white players. Here's a listing of the birth places of the non-pitcher players for the team:

BIRTH PLACE
Punto Fijo, Venezuela
Gilroy, CA
Maracay, Venezuela
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Lakewood, CA
Maracaibo, Venezuela
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
Upata, Venezuela
Fort Worth, TX
Pusan, South Korea
Villa Clara, Cuba
Coffee, AL
Fontana, CA

Wow, and the guy from Gilroy is Chris Jimenez and the one from Coffee is Alex Rios. So there are only two of what Archie Bunker referred to as "regular Americans" as non-pitchers. Good to see that team sucking too. Is having only two standard White Americans on the non-pitching roster the worst in baseball? It has to be close.

Baseball in some places is turning into the NFL of the 90's, White guys at the throwing position only please!!

Frieri does it AGAIN. Gives up three earned runs in the ninth inning. Luckily the Angels had a five-run lead.

How long is this farce going to continue?

Frieri - Grilli trade - looks like the Angels got the better end of the bargain so far.

The Rangers are definitely the "brownest" team in the league. I follow baseball very closely and observe the racial compositions of most teams. The only other team I can think of with as dark of a makeup is the Dodgers, who typically only start one white. The thing about them however, is that the majority of their top prospects are white, so the future does indeed look bright in LA. The rangers however, have one of the darkest farm systems in baseball with Joey Gallo being the sole white position player in their top 20 prospects list.

The Tigers are also one of the blackest teams in the league, however I prefer them to the Rangers and Dodgers because most of their talent remains american. Their typical starting lineup contains 5 american position players (although all of them are black or hispanic besides Kinsler.)

Also I believe that despite Giminez having a latino last name, he is a white man. He certainly looks the part and I have been counting him as one.

One more anecdote, on the topic of white hispanics, what does everyone think of Miguel Montero on the Arizona Diamondbacks? He is venezualan but could easily pass as white imo. From certain angles he even resembles Mike Trout!

One more Edit! Did some research and found out that both Montero's parents are from Spain, making him a white (ish) person!

Montero is simply a White man from South America. Venezuela has quite a few. Other examples would be Frankie Cervelli and Marco Scutaro.
