The NBA season tips off tonight and there appears to be some interesting teams and story lines to follow so let's get this thread going. I’ll provide some commentary in a follow-up post to keep this initial entry trim as possible. Here are Caste Football’s teams to support for the 14/15 season.

Point System:
3 points for a White starter (S)
2 points for a White rotational reserve (R)
1 point for a White non-rotation reserve / benchwarmer (B)

(INJ) Indicates a player who is injured for a significant amount of time and he is NOT included in the teams point total

Commentary

So as I discussed in another thread, the most interesting development is 2 of the Whitest teams competing for Eastern Conference supremacy.

Along the same lines, of the teams scoring a 12 or over in my rankings, most of them should be playoff bound. Cleveland, Chicago and Portland should be in. Memphis, Brooklyn and Phoenix all have great chances. The Knicks are the least likely to be good but we'll have to see as the season rolls on.

On initial count (not including Steve Nash who is done for the year), there are 34 starters. There are 106 White players on rosters to start the year. I was generous including a few guys, but even saying 100 to be conservative, is an improvement. According to referendum (thanks!), last year was 34/99 and the year before that 32/90. So same number of starters, but the overall total is up the 3rd year straight.

With 150 starters for the 30 NBA teams, Whites are 23%.
With rosters of 15 players each, the NBA contains 450 players. Whites are 24% overall. So while improving (only 20% just 2 years ago), we still have along way to go.

Just saw the ESPN previews for tonight's game and there will be more White starters than I accounted for. +1 for Orlando as Ridnour should start. +1 for San Antonio as Bellinelli will be starting for injured Leonard. Bonner starting for Splittler (hurt) but that's a push. Dallas v. San Antonio features 4 White starters and is a good way to start the season!

PS, I won't update my starters list yet as I need more sample size and how things shake out.

Ryan Anderson is only 26 years old even though it seems he's been around forever. If he can get over his pretty serious injuries, he should be entering some prime years. His coming off the bench doesn't bother me. He's a PF and he's behind Anthony Davis, a legitimately excellent player. In only 22 minutes, Ryan took 22 shots. A shot a minute is unheard of so it seems he's got the green light and will get a chance to be a high scorer.

I like the Pelicans team a good deal. Asik is monster in the paint as evident by his 17 rebound, 5 block night. Jimmer had a poor shooting night but got 18 minutes and was a +3 overall. Withey and Babbitt got some burn too. I hope they can get into the rotation.

Nikola Vucevic, who just turned 24 this week, will be an all-star this year if he can stay healthy. Looking over the roster, there are no other strong rebounders in Orlando. He could grab 15 boards a night! His blocks were also encouraging as he averaged under 1 per game last year. I'll predict he gets that number closer to 2 per game this year.

I'm also excited to watch the Suns, Bulls, Warriors, Twolves and Jazz. All of these teams have two starters and more off the bench. Chicago might be the best team to watch overall. They are loaded top to bottom.

Thanks for the heads up and sorry I missed your boy from LSU. I was vaguely familiar with him but overlooked him because his name sounds sorta black I guess.

So 107 White guys in the NBA this year. Still 24%. Does anyone know what percentage of the NFL is White? The 2 leagues seem to be closing the gap.

PS - I'll give my selection for an All CF Team (probably 2 or 3 units) once we're a few weeks into the season.

Looking @ this list of top performers.. Spaniards & Eastern Europeans.. It reinforces my personal belief that the (aspiring pro) athletes facing the most institutionalized racial discrimination are White American kids working to play in the NBA. All the good, homegrown guys who have great college careers & then disappear before, or at, the pro level.
Maybe Caucasian defensive backs have an equally, or greater, uphill battle, but..

The Bulls ran the Knicks right off the court playing three whites for most of the game. What a great show. They are going
to be a championship contender.

I watched a good amount of this game while switching back and forth to game 7 of the WS. The Bulls are going to be a good team. They share the ball, play tough defense and now have outside shooting with McDermott and Mirotic. All the White athletes for Chicago played well except for Dunleavy. He was just off, even missing a fairly easy layup at one point. I wouldn't be shocked if McDermott becomes the starting SF at some point later this season.

The Knicks received bad news with Calderon being hurt. Jason Smith also didn't start after reports earlier said he would. They started 5 brothas and got smashed. Aldrich played well when called upon in the 2nd half. He was a menace on the boards. Now NY gets to face the other White powerhouse tonight, Cleveland. They should get smashed again by Love and Co.

AA, I think you are right about the Europeans and I believe this has been discussed at CF before. If you are a White kid and want to play high level basketball you have to usually play in leagues with, or, against teams with alot of blacks. With that you have to put up with the TNB that follows. Many kids / teens, or better yet their parents, simply do not want to put up with that mess. The Euro guys get to develop without the hostile and toxic atmosphere.

What I like about this year is that there are some good white players in the NBA eastern conference, instead of most of them bunched in the NBA west. Also, for a little while a few years back I remember hearing that the Darko Milicic draft "bust" (he should have been drafted deeper in the first round, not number 3) would lead to less Europeans coming into the NBA. Fortunatly this hasn't happened and Euros are still streaming into the league.

So happy Dirk finally has a forward along side him who can play. Chandler Parsons is one of the most underrated players in the nba. He is
so long, athletic and he can really shoot along with taking guys off the dribble.

Glad to Pekovic and Rubio get a win for Minnesota. I wonder how they feel about the team now though. They even cut Rubio and now he is back with the Mavs. Sved is gone. Love and too many guys to mention. They didn't even play Chase Budinger at all last night. So they are watchable with two starters but just barely. I hate how quickly they broke up the team.

I know their mother is White and the father is Cuban. Not sure what race the dad is. The Lopez twins both act very White and handle themselves in a professional manner. They are guys I root for and I see them as Caste-busters. Again you can count them or not count them. I don't care.
