There may be no more depressing news this college football season then the decline of the Ohio State Buckeyes in level of White talent. In the past the Buckeyes could be counted on to mine most of the excellent White talent coming out of their home state high schools. Those big city, rural, and Catholic football programs have produced an inordinate amount of good White players that went on to have success at the school and in the NFL.
Not any more though, Ohio native, and onetime Cincinnati Bearcat defensive back Urban Meyer has chosen to make the Buckeyes look not like the Mid Western powerhouse football teams of Woody Hayes and Jim Tressell, but more like the thug filled teams he put together at Florida. Meyer has decided to SEC-ize the Buckeyes, and if he has any success look for other Big 10 teams to do the same.
Meyer, who originally had some success at Utah with a lot of White players has decided to go all-in on blacks at nearly every position except offensive line.
Looking at the projected starters is depressing. On offense Meyer has stocked all of the ball handling positions except tight end with black players at every depth. All the QB's and RB's that will play will be black. One White guy, Frank Epitropoulus, may get some time as the number 3 receiver.
There are 4 starters on the offensive line.
LT—Jack Mewhort, rSr.
LG—Andrew Norwell, Sr.
C—Corey Linsley, rSr.
RT—Taylor Decker, Soph.
The only bright spot on the team is that the tight-end/H-backs should be White. Nick Vannett, Soph. and Jeff Heuerman, Jr. Meyer should use them like he used Aaron Hernandez at Florida (minus the crime and murder hopefully), as a frequent receiver of short passes out of the backfield.
As bad as the OSU offense is, the defense is stunning in the fact that the Buckeyes will have only 1 White player starting, Joel Hale at NT. In a shocking reversal of history and tradition there will be no White players at the linebacker position and only one guy, Joey Bosa a freshman, in the mix. Tommy Shutt will be the first guy off the bench on the d-line and will see some playing time.
This is a stunning turn of events from a team which has had a tradition of recruiting and playing great White talent on the defensive line and linebacker.
The secondary will be as black as the ace of spades as is typical for any major college team although the Buckeyes once "bucked' that trend as well.
The total number of starters, 4 offense lineman, 1 tight end, 1 nose tackle. That will make a grand total of 6 White starters for the Buckeyes. They have gone from 12 starters two years ago to 8 and now 6.
But they can go lower, more bad news is on the way as Meyer's "5-star" recruiting classes are virtually all black. Expect the OSU football team to be indistinguishable from an SEC team from now and into the future. The Scarlet and Grey should be changed to the Brown and the Black.
