The Bears are intriguing for the mere fact that 5 white Safeties are in training camp Chris Conte, Craig Steltz, Tom Zbikowski, Brandon Hardin & Tom Nelson...easily the most in the NFL. What would dwf's say if this team were to start an all white secondary? = to the NBA's Timberwolves who started 5 whites much of the season. With 300+ yard passing games from QB's at an all time high...what would they have to lose? Of course we know that would be unacceptable. Only a soul-patrol secondary is acceptable to most dwf's. Being a minority...a white DB tends to be a lightning rod for criticism and had better play flawless or be put on special teams.

Besides one quality CB Charles Tillman...the rest of the CB's seem average/run-of-the-mill players. Chris Conte played CB most of his college career at Cal...following him early thought he had the chance to be the next Jason Sehorn(6'-2") with his good range... of course he projects as a starting Safety. Tom Nelson entered the NFL as a CB only to be moved...and Brandon Hardin was athletic enough to play CB in college too. So it would not be a stretch IMO to see 3 of the 4 DB's being white! But that's not acceptable either....

The Bears defense will not be the same without LB-Brian Urlacher who played for 12 seasons/8 Pro-Bowls...so now Chris Conte looks like he will be the only white starter on defense.

While Craig Steltz(has started a few games) entering his prime continues to be a projected back-up/wasting away...would seem to be a nice compliment to Conte at Safety...over the inconsistent Major Wright . It would be great to see Steltz with the Denver Broncos who have two safeties that are liabilities and cost them in last years playoffs.

Tom Zbikowski could also start as well...is simply too good to be relegated to special teams.

DE-Shea McClellin(healthy again) now in his 2nd season could be ready to challenge for a starting spot opposite Peppers. Undrafted Rookie FA-Brent Russell could be a steal...with 1st Round Bust Sedric Ellis retiring earlier in the week...Russell has a better chance to land a 53-man roster spot instead of the practice squad. LB-Blake Costanzo looks to be the Special Teams Ace.

Rookie free agent WR Josh Lenz did not get an NFL Combine invite...so his impressive Pro Day Workout at Iowa State 4.36/40 & 38.5 VJ made them take notice. Even Rotoworld said his God given tools should land him a bigger opportunity after a year or two on the practice squad. I refuse to compare him to Dane Sanzenbacher simply because he is white.

Along with QB Jay Cutler...the starting OG's look to be rookie Kyle Long & Matt Slauson...not sure what Gabe Carimi does??

Only 27 of the 86 players on the training camp roster are white...(I put the three samoans & one latino in separate group)

Carimi was traded to Tampa Bay. They still have a bunch of sumos at the tackle position.

Nice write-up 22. I think it's going to be interesting to see how the secondary shakes out. The wild card is new head coach Marc Trestman. Will he be more fair than Lovie?

I never considered Carimi White anyway. The "scouts and gurus" drooled over this guy because he was jewish and he fully embraced it, haven been raised in the faith, although his mother was Catholic she converted when he was at an early age. "The Jewish Hammer" and the "Bear Jew" didn't pan out as expected.

It looks like Hatie Smiff may cut Tommy Z.

The Chicago Tribune doesn't expect S Tom Zbikowski to make the Bears.

Zbikowski was signed to a one-year deal, a year after starting 11 games for the Colts. He's a quality special teams player but was always miscast as a starting NFL safety. Zbikowski has fallen all the way to the fourth-team defense.

how was he accidental "miscast" as a starter? that doesn't just happen with White skill position players. He was really good when starting. Now Chicago shows its true colors, somehow goes from starter to 4th team. How is that possible unless he is playing with one leg?

I remember when Tommy Z was in his last year of college. Before the season every scouting report on him was good. They mentioned he's very fast and a great athlete. basically he would make a great safety in the NFL. Then after his senior season everything changed. He was no longer a great athlete but just a very average one and he did start quite a few games so far in his career but he's considered a minor bust by the media.

That's stinks about Zibby. He was such a playmaker back at Notre Dame. That team with Zbikowski, Quinn and the Shark was one of my favorite college teams to watch. Hopefully Steltz and Hardin make the team (Conte should be a no brainer - he is one of the best young safeties in the game).

I think Zbikowski will get picked up at some point during the season if he does end up getting cut.

WA33. Wasn't Hatie Smiff fired after last season. I'm pretty sure a negro coach doesn't have that pull in this corrupt league. Or does he?

The Bears finally cut J'Marcus Webb, who has been one of the worst starting sumos for years. How did this guy make 44 career starts? Unreal.

Bears waived OT J'Marcus Webb.

J'Webb Nation is no longer a sovereign state. Among the worst starting players in the league last season, not even a demotion and pay cut could save Webb's roster spot. His release would seem to suggest Eben Britton and Jonathan Scott have locked up roster spots. The 2010 seventh-rounder has three years of starting experience to fall back on, but his tape isn't going to do him any favors in his search for a new home. The Bears are starting fifth-rounder Jordan Mills opposite new LT Jermon Bushrod.

Bears offense has been **** for awhile now. Subsequently they consistently rely on sumos to try and get the job done. If I'm the NFC North im licking my chops to get at Bushrod and Mills!

yet Cutler gets the blame for :"holding the ball too long."
Tommy Z was suspended for 4 games for violating the leagues PED's ban. I saw his listed weight at 200 pounds. He is another White safety who is another miscast corner back. I recall him coming out of high school and Notre Dame recruited him as a potential corner back. I suspect he either took PED's to keep mass on his natural 185 pound frame.http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4736/tom-zbikowski

That's unfortunate. However if he continues to get screwed around by the NFL I'd like to see him make a comeback in boxing!

The Bears drafted a pretty good white offensive lineman in Kyle Long. He's been very good in the running game and ok in the passing game.

He's certainly played better than Warmack and Cooper, the guards drafted ahead of him in the first round.
