2012 Outdoor Track Season

Incidentally, for those of you who will be able to watch and post (I won't be able to), there should be a fast, fast, fast 800 in Paris Friday. I don't see anyone beating Rudisha--the most dominant runner I can ever remember seeing--but a lot of our guys should PR. I'm especially watching young Bosse, the 20-yr-old Frenchman who is crazy good for his age.
 
the Russians should field good 4 x 400 teams.

They had 5 men at 45.6 or better but, more impressively, the woman that missed a 400 medal ran 50.07. (49.16, 49.28, 49.72 were the top 3, with 7 @ 50.8 or better)
 
Sally Pearson looked amazing with her 12.40 on a wet track. I wouldn't be surprised if she set a WR at the Olympics.
 
Sally Pearson is my favorite womens athlete on the planet. She is also the most dominant hurdler in the world and a damn good sprinter too. Her technique is like watching ballet. So smooth and so beautiful. This lady should be the face of track and field. She gets about 10% of the publicity that Usain Bolt gets. Hopefully with another gold medal in a major competition and a world record soon, the media and fans will give her the credit she deserves. I did like the announcers in this last race as they gave her alot of praise. She is just amazing to watch!

London is notorious for poor summer weather, many evenings are cool and not conducive for fast times. If the Olympics were in Greece or Spain it could be possible. Her pb is.07 off the wr and it is owned by an obvious drug cheat too so she is probably the unofficial world record holder.

yep.. london weather will be interesting to say the least..usually it is dry though.. with regards to russian flat sprinters.. i just dont get it ??? except for shubenkov(110 hurdles i know).. where are the russian/ukraine.. men over 100 and 200.... my bet is the lure of soccer!! and its mega bucks..its russias no1 at the moment... even the speed skaters make more money then male track athletes... i do know there is very little financial help in both russia and ukraine.....any body any sentiments...

yo multi .. dont get too upset with harold.. we all get a bit excited sometimes:peep::biggrin:......also we must take note of pascal behrenbruch this guy is a future world record holder.....regarding flat sprinters , with respect multi ..where are the aussies ..i know there are 2 very talented juniors ....any insider knowledge....was a big fan of shirvo , there has to be another shirvo there?
 
In additon to Jared Connaughton running a 10.19 a couple of days ago we had a descent effort from an old guy and a young guy. Paul Hession is still trying to find that speed he had around 4 or 5 years ago. Most guys get slower as they age unless you take magical yams. Great race by Danny Talbot too. He is getting alot more consistant and he will be one to watch in the coming years.

I just wanted to make a quick comment about the Great Britain Olympic Sprinters selected. It is such a joke. You have Dwain (steroids) Chambers who hasn't even run a B Standard going in the individual 100. Mean while Richard Kilty has run faster than any other sprinter except A. Gemeli. On top of that, Kilty and Talbot(both 21 years of age) are their best 200 meters sprinters and neither was picked for the team so that they could send the old has been guys like M.Devonish and C Malcom. What a complete joke. The young guys are better and they are the future. It would make sense to get them experience on the worlds biggest athletics stage and for them to live their dream running for their home country! My only conclusion is that they are not tan enough. Sorry but the truth hurts!

I agree with you that its a matter of skin color. what a disgrace, the brits should hang their heads in shame.

Also, the 400 will be worth watching. A Wariner sighting as well as the Borlees running. In fact, out of 8 runners in the 400, only two are black.

LOL! I'd seen that earlier today. That young gal's been quiet blessed...attractive and a world class athlete. Hopefully, she'll not let this recent publicity go to her head.
 
I stumbled on this while looking up Melissa Breen. She finished 2nd here last month but went on to do a PB 11.27 last week.

Who wins? A rare international 100 meter run by Sally Pearson who dominates and runs 11.20 INTO a 1.2 wind.
I guess most here have only seen her hurdle but this run would put her near the top of white sprinters world wide and would equate to 11s low with a little wind in her favour.

I'm suprised no one commented on Borlee winning that 400 meters final in Monaco. He looks like he can possible challenge for the gold or silver medal. It would disgust me to see the drug cheat Merritt win the gold. Anyone but him.

Shubenkov is flat out amazing. Anything short of the 110 high hurld finals and I would be devastated. He might not get a medal but he will in the near future at the rate he is improving.

Lukas Jakubzyck of Germany is running tommorow in a last tuneup race for the Olympics. He will compete in both the 100 & 200 meters. I'm hoping he gets a new p.b. in the 100! Not too impressed with his 200 meters but he rarely races the distance.

with respect WL i did ..ie comment on shubenkov on ramils thread and borlee on the athletics weekly thread... respect to both ...both are medal contenders... at last a sprinthurdler of schwarthoff and mike fenner standards....(germans).....shubenkov is poised to break 13 flat....just look at the glutes and thighs on this guy..a real power sprinter...:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

They both are for real. No doubt that they will make the finals in the Olympics. I really want Borlee to medal as I still am shocked at how quickly Wariner went down hill. He is still good but he has slowed down at the wrong time. Regardless, I am still a Wariner fan even if he never wins again. He was just so fun to watch and he gave all of us a great sense of pride. Jeremy was and still is a legend despite falling short of the world record. I still consider him one of the two greatest 400 meter sprinters of all time.

Lukas J. of Germany looked average today. He ran a 10.40 and 20.77 in the two events. He won both but there was no competition. The one problem I have with the German Sprinters is that they seem to almost always peak for the national champs and can't hold it through to the olympics or world champs. Even the Italians have been guilty of that too. I know you have to make the team but it's discouraging how quickly they regress. Oh the problems of trying to be an elite sprinter when your not a "Yamaican" as Jimmy C. says.

I just checked the ages of Merritt a (27 tomorrow) and Richardson (26).

Shubenkov at only 21.5 should have many years to perfect his technique and power.
I wonder will he run in their 4 x 100 too.
