2012 NCAA Basketball Tournament

Wolfpack Nation is ecstatic right now.. to be in the Sweet 16. If NC State can find a way to get past Kansas, it would be absolute pandemonium!

With Duke and Florida State eliminated, and UNC having a kid-glove bracket, NC State has become the ACCs story of the Tournament. As an 11th seed, they defeated a hyped San Diego State team and then took down Georgetown, a 3 seed!!


--This Tournament has been about the Big 10 and Big East, and the Sweet 16 will feature three big games of Big 10 -vs- Big East:

(1)Michigan State -vs- (4)Louisville. Both of these teams' won their respective conference tournaments. Will likely be a low-scoring affair, and I don't think we'll see much "Godman play" here. As for who has the edge in this game, I feel MSU has it. Tom Izzo, anyone?

(1)Syracuse -vs- (4)Wisconsin. The Badgers' have a shot here, but they need to step-up defensively. Festus Ezeli, of Vandy, was really exposing Wisconsin late in their game.

(2)Ohio State -vs- (6)Cincinnati. Both of these teams' were the runner-up in their respective conference tournaments. I give the edge to Ohio State.

Another Big Dance for Wisconsin.. another exit facilitated by Jordan Taylor. This has gotten rather predictable!

Wisconsin is down by one on their last possession, just one point.. Jordan Taylor wastes way too much time and then chucks a long 3-pointer for an AIRBALL. Game over. That's "hero ball" for you. All along, this Tournament was going to be a referendum on him as he's Wisconsin's "leader." Syracuse was beatable..


--Aaron Craft was instrumental in Ohio State's win over Cinci: 11 points, 5 assists and 6 steals!

--Erik Murphy had 7 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks in Florida's win over Marquette.

I'm watching the Indiana vs Kentucky Game. Talk about a caste matchup. Cody Zeller is playing good despite foul trouble. It is a 3 point game at the moment with only a few minutes left in the first half. Indiana is a fun team to watch. I hope they can beat Kentucky who doesn't seem to want the Rex Chapman types anymore. Go Hoosiers!

Jeff Withey had 8 points and 10 blocks!!

I'm a big fan of Withey, and I'm looking forward to watching him go against Tyler Zeller in the next round (Zeller had a big 20-20 game, plus 4 blocks, against Ohio). Both of these athletes are American-born!

(1)UNC -vs- (2)Kansas is not a match-up that I ever was averse to seeing, and, with the Kendall Marshall injury, it should be more intriguing. Both teams' have their flaws as far as playing basketball is concerned, so I'm also glad that one of them will lose.. and neither team has that much depth.

SportsCenter almost completely hid Jeff Withey last night.. he is a threat to the system - kind of like a White Anthony Davis - so I'm fine with Kansas being in the Elite 8, even though they defeated the Wolfpack.. :bigsmile:

I was rooting against Kentucky just because of their slickster coach who always has a recruiting scandal at every coaching stop in his career. Well at least he doesn't wear the Boss Hog white suit like Pitino........:roll:

Over the last few games the Xaviers, the VCU's, the Syracuses etc. have been defeated, but the victors are the scarcely more exciting one white starter teams like Ohio State, Kansas, UNC, Louisville etc. Better one fifth a loaf than none at all I suppose.

The truth about this Tournament was the attempt by the "PTB" to clearly elevate the black mid-majors via seeding, and, in this discussion.. I include San Diego State, Temple, Wichita State. I'd say that UNLV got a fair seed, a 6, but it was great to see them go down in the opening round of the Tourny to Colorado. Murray State's seeding was alright as well. Ultimately, what happened?

The media's attempt to show college basketball as "deep" FAILED. Yes, there are several highly-rated blacks on UNLV, San Diego State, Temple, New Mexico.. but the MSM and the weekly polls went overboard. A team like SDSU was "coasting by" based on their rep from last season (Kawhi Leonard, etc). Something tells me that the MSM wanted to have another "Butler story".. but with a mostly black team this time. This is the story of the Tournament thus far. This is how a team like Florida -- who very nearly made the Final Four -- found itself as a 7th seed. And, I personally think SEC basketball was improved this season compared to last year's absolute dreadfullness.

College basketball's dominance still remains at the top of the Big 10, Big East, SEC (Kentucky), ACC (UNC).


P.S. -- A White (and Jewish) mid-major like Davidson definitely should have gotten a higher seed. Belmont, maybe a little higher. I can't argue with the seeding of Creighton, Saint Louis and St. Mary's.

With 4 fouls, he crushed John Henson and then - displaying nice footwork - swatted Stillman White. Unbelievable passion and intensity by Jeff Withey after a "bogus" 4th foul was called on him. And, props to Bill Self for keeping his stud in the game - down the stretch - after that 4th foul. Amazing outcome, considering that KU kept trying to give this game away..

Me neither DD, but I hope Louisville's Kyle Kuric has a good final four. He's very athletic player who should get an NBA look, but his production has diminshed over the last few games. I'm not sure why, like you, I haven't been following the tournament.

The winner of the South Region, Kentucky, starts zero Whites but gives erratic minutes to freshman, Kyle Wiltjer. He's gotten less than 10 mins per game in the tourney. Wiltjer was a 5 star prospect out of H.S. and made a foolish decision going to Calipari's plantation. For example, Cody Zeller made a wise decision going to Indiana.
West Region winner, Louisville, starts G/F Kyle Kuric. He's their top scorer. Sometimes PG Elisha Justice gets minutes.
East winner, Ohio St, starts PG Aaron Craft. He's the top defensive guard in all of college hoops. He's also a good passer but needs to work on his offensive game. He's only a sophomore.
Midwest winner, Kansas, starts C Jeff Withey. The athletic junior is a shot blocking machine and solid rebounder. His offensive game is improving with experience. Conner Teahan, a guard, gets a few minutes off the bench.

Jeff Withey -- who finally got significant minutes this season -- absolutely exploded onto the scene. The irony - here - is that he's already better than Mason Plumlee. Withey hits his free-throws and plays defense, and just needs to improve his rebounding a bit. And, he's in the Final Four and getting more exposure.

Kansas/Ohio State is a huge game, and it will be watched by many racialists. It's also a rematch of Aaron Craft -vs- Tyshawn Taylor.. late last year, Aaron Craft dismantled Taylor.

Deadlift Taylor is 0-17 on his last 3pt attempts taken, I expect the streak will continue with Craft guarding him! I would like to see the Ohio State PG put up some points and look for his shot more often on a National Stage.

Key player: Withey. Every Jayhawk played a role in their comeback and eventual win, and Robinson's night -- 19 points, 8 rebounds, 8-of-18 from the field -- can't be overlooked. But the most important performance came from the 7-foot Withey, whose incredible reach and interior defense made Sullinger a nonfactor on the offensive end. Withey finished with 7 blocks and 8 rebounds; Sullinger posted just 13 points on 5-of-19 from the field. In a game filled with tricky matchup issues, Withey was the biggest mismatch ace up Bill Self's sleeve. He proved why Saturday night.

Last year, Josh Harrellson destroyed Sullinger. This year, it was Withey!

Jeff Withey: Nearing a Tournament Record


After Withey's seven-block performance against Ohio State, he now has 27 blocks in the NCAA tournament, just two shy of the record, 29, set in 2006 by Florida’s Joakim Noah. Let's hope Withey can get a few blocks against Kentucky! If Withey reaches 30 blocks, that would certainly be an enormous Caste-busting moment.
