It took until the 4th of July for Cliff Lee to finally win his first game of the season. His ERA isn't that bad though at 3.98 as he's been a victim of terrible run support.

Tim Lincecum has also been struggling big time this season: 3-9 record with a 6.08 ERA.

Regarding the All Star game, La Russa is returning as the manager of the NL squad. His pitching coaches for the game will be his long-time pitching coach Dave Duncan and current St. Louis pitching coach Derek Lilliquist. It will be interesting to see who they choose as the starter. It has been well established that Duncan hates young pitchers (especially the ones on his own teams), but maybe he has mellowed out in his time off from the game. I have to believe that Lilliquist will push for Lynn. I suspect that La Russa will want the veteran with the strongest arm to start the game. It won't be Dickey. The AL has seen enough knuckleballs from Wakefield over the years that they won't be surprised by Dickey. Of course, timing will play a major role, too. I haven't checked the scheduled starting days for all the top starters in the NL, but I know that La Russa wouldn't push a starter on short rest.
One more thing: I'm guessing FOX will have their say. They will want big names to start. And professional sports are so intertwined with corporate media that it may be their decision, anyway.

I'd like to see Justin Verlander start for the AL, He deserved it with his monster year last season but had pitched too soon to the game to get the start. He'll be rested this year though. I just saw a statistic on most consecutive starts lasting 6 innings or more and Verlander was the only pitcher of the last 20 years in the top ten. He pitched a complete game yesterday for win number 9 on the season. He's a workhorse in an era of ponies.

After a slow start to the season, Colby Rasmus (TOR) has heated up. It's great to see this.

Brian McCann is heating up.

Daniel Murphy has been a steady force for the Mets.

Red Sox reliever Vicente Padilla, clearly tired of the frequent criticism leveled at him by Mark Teixeira about his propensity for pitching inside and hitting batters, fired back late Saturday, saying that the Yankees first baseman was prejudiced against Latinos and that he had threatened to hit him with a bat. Padilla also said that Teixeira would “be better off playing a women’s sport.â€￾

Teixeira’s reaction? “Hilarious – that’s good,â€￾ he laughed.

ahhh ... the wonders of diversity! take a moment and savor them ...

the Milwaukee Brewers got a taste of it yesterday, when Carlos Gomez hit a long foul ball ... and burst out into his home run trot, coursing the entire base paths. the only problem? the moron had hit a foul ball. :hand:

he promptly struck out on the next pitch. :boom:

for your viewing pleasure, you can see the entire hilarious episode here.

The Angels are just 8 games over .500, but their 6' 7" ace pitcher Jered Weaver is an eye-popping 15-1 so far in 2012 to go with a 2.13 ERA. That follows last season's 18-8 won-lost record and a 2.41 ERA. Weaver has never had a losing season and is now 97-48 for his career.

Clayton Kershaw finally got his 10th win. Tough year for him, but he seems to have righted himself finally and will end up with 13-14 wins, maybe more. I guess even a guy like Kershaw can expect a year like this every once in awhile.

Crispy Creme Sabathia is back on the disabled list for the second time this season. I give him credit for being a gamer who wants to earn his mega-contract and for being one of the very few very good black American pitchers in recent decades, but at 32 I still expect him to fade prematurely (compared to top White pitchers) because of his obesity.

Yes Don, exactly. People in general are way to heavy. Sabathia is a pitcher, but because of his inability to reign in his appetite, he'll be finished as a top shelf pitcher before his time.

I don't know about that. Fat pitchers can play a long time. It's all about the arm not the belly. Especially in the age of the DH. Three off the top of my head.

Mickey Lolich 16 years

David Wells 21 years

Terry Forster 16 years

Lolich had 4 years in a row of 300+ innings!!

There's been plenty of fat black pitchers, but I don't see any on your longevity list. In fact, there's been plenty of non-fat black pitchers, and few were effective for 16 plus years. Luis Tiant might be one but he was considered "hispanic" by the bizarre racial rules of this country.

Gentlemen, Very true, but for the most part, the blacks and hispanics who're fat don't hold up as well as our White fat guys. I think blacks and hispanics in general have a short window on youth. It closes very fast for them it seems. I acknowledge there are exceptions, but those exceptions don't disprove the general rule.

Yes good point about black pitchers. They don't last long as it is. So I don't think Sabitha being fat is as much an issue as his "other" genetics. But I can't think of any decent fat black pitchers, there aren't many black pitchers to pick from as it is.

Ryan Doumit of the Minnesota Twins hit a massive 3 run bomb today knocking in two of his White brothers and as he crossed home plate he shook both their hands with the standard "White man" handshake.

Is that typical?

I guess from mostly watching the diversity cursed Tigers it's something I have not seen much of, if at all. All I ever see is the fist bump, hand slap, or some weird soul-brother nonsense.

I would like all the CF baseball fans to take note of the home plate post HR congratulations and see what kind of greeting is most popular. I have a feeling it will depend on the -ahem- demographics of each team and/or players waiting at home plate.

Let me know.

Very astute observations Jax. I've always felt the fistbump was a negro-ish gesture to make, but others have disagreed with me.

Negroes always have to do some shucking and jiving or be bopping to draw attention to themselves. It's disgusting how they act like little children with their endzone dances, gang moves on the tennis court, etc. How people can consider them to be civilized is beyond me.

One of the things that really bugs me is the HR swing and strut. You know, after a guy hits it and he knows it's gone the stop and watch it go out. That's classless, and it's primarily non-whites that do it. I think pitchers should retaliate by doing an end zone dance and pointing and gestering after every strike out. That would teach those idiots that strike out 4 times a game but once in a while crank one. Yes, five celebrations to one. The proper ratio.

That won't happen because most pitchers are White and thus have more inate decency and sportsmenship plus the media would pile on them. But it would be fun to see a pitcher do that once in a while.

Huge COLLAPSE by the Angels' tonight against Tampa. The Angels' record is much worse than most people thought it would be. In the offseason, they payed way-too-much to acquire C.J. Wilson and Albert Pujols.

Melky Cabrera suspended for illegal drugs - 50 games/no pay.

What a dumbass!

Melky Cabrera eyed for failed plot?

San Francisco Giants star outfielder Melky Cabrera mounted a campaign to avoid his 50-game suspension that included a fake website featuring a fictitious product in an effort that was quickly uncovered by MLB investigators, the New York Daily News has reported.

Citing an anonymous source close to the case and an associate who told the newspaper he was "accepting responsibility for what everyone else already knows" concerning the fake site, the Daily News reported famed investigator Jeff Novitzky and agents from MLB's investigative arm have begun looking more closely at Cabrera and the scheme purportedly hatched in July as they seek the source of the synthetic testosterone found in his urine.

Bartolo Colon failed a drug test and it was announced today. The ESPN reporter said that rumours had been swirling about his steroid usage since he launched his comeback because of the seriousness of the surgery and the liveliness of his fastball after the surgery. From the looks of Colon you would think he would be on roids for speed eating....:becky:http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8...-suspended-50-games-violating-mlb-drug-policy http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=Barto...=84&start=0&ndsp=36&ved=1t:429,r:13,s:0,i:115

Unfortunately Miguel Cabrera has heated up and has a good shot at being the first player to win the Triple Crown since Carl Yastrzemski back in 1967. He currently has a 9 point lead in batting average and a 7 RBI lead over Josh Hamilton. Hamilton still leads Cabrera by a single homerun, 42 to 41, but Hamilton has been out the past two days with a vision problem. If he doesn't return soon and hit a few more dingers, Cabrera will likely pull off the feat. Cabrera is the charming fellow who cost the Tigers a playoff spot a couple of years ago when he went on a drunken bender the last weekend of the season when his team was fighting tooth and nail for a place in the post-season.

In the AL, Ryan Braun will win the homerun crown and is tied for the lead in RBIs. Whites are well represented in the power categories in both leagues, especially the NL. With Braun following his MVP 2011 season with another great one, will he be deemed "worthy" of participation in the Home Run Contest at the 2013 All Star game after being excluded this year?
