Today, ESPN was showing a Bengals scrimmage. I noticed Brian Leonard catching a few passes out of the backfield, so it looks like he should keep his role as an occasional 3rd down RB. I also noticed a white wide receiver (#15), that made about 3 catches. Good crisp routes, brought the ball in and had some zip going up the field. I had to look on the internet to see who this guy is. His name is Justin Hilton. He is 6"3 and was not a slot receiver in college. With Whalen and Shipley 5th and 6th on the depth chart, he will probably have to knock off one of these guys to make the team, or else the practice squad. Here are some videos of him I found on youtube.

Looks like Shipley's getting screwed. Notice however that the Bengals are high on Burfict.. According to Espn's Jamison Hensley

  • Jordan Shipley, who is behind Hawkins as the slot receiver, doesn't appear to have enough burst to get separation from defenders in man coverage. Coming off season-ending knee surgery, Shipley is best at finding soft spots in zone defenses. He needs a strong preseason to get off the bubble.

  • The Bengals' coaching staff is extremely high on undrafted rookie linebacker Vontaze Burfict, the one-time first-round prospect. Playing at a much lighter weight than he did at Arizona State, Burfict is always around the ball in camp.

Another hate crime in the making here. Jordan Shipley should start for this team, without any question. Gruden Jr. is even more moronic than his older brother.

I hope Shipley at least gets another look from somebody, unlike so many discarded white WRs. Blair White, for instance, hasn't even worked out for a team, to the best of my knowledge, since being cut by the Colts.

That sucks that Shipley got cut. Hopefully he is able to regain his prior form. He should get picked up at some point this season with the usual epidemic of injuries at the position by some of the "world's best athletes"

This.

I think Shipley can get some Jordy Nelson type love somewhere and it wasn't in Cincy. I don't blame them for waiving an injured guy (although teams do hang onto injured black busts for ever) so this may be a win situation for Shipley. I think he will get another shot. He was a very good fairly high profile receiver in college, there must be some good film on him out there.

From Weenieworld:

Former Bengals LB Brandon Joiner was released from jail Tuesday. Joiner signed with the Bengals as an undrafted rookie out of Arkansas State in 2012. He then ended up doing eight months on a robbery and felony drug charge stemming from a 2007 incident while at Texas A&M. Now out on parole, Joiner will attempt to resurrect his career. We know the Bengals aren't shy about giving troubled players second chances.

Tell that to Matt Jones.
