Nadal rose up to end Federer's tremendous run of dominance, and now Djokovic has risen up to end Nadal's. The difference is that Nadal is still in his prime years whereas Federer was starting to get up in years.

Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic; we're fortunate to be able to watch three great players in the same era. Have to wonder now if Djokovic may end up being regarded as the best ever before it's said and done. He's been incredible this year and currently owns Nadal.

Well said, sir.

I guess Federer will need to do a Sampras, win one last Slam and walk away with a smile. Nadal and Djoko have more battles to come (most likely one sided). I feel kinda bad for Murray, just one Slam win will make him a British legend.

What Djokovic did this year is unbelievable. He should be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. He just might be the one man to challange Federes Career Grand Slam Record someday.

Djokovic has now officially entered the rarified air of all-time greats in men's tennis with this victory. 64-2 in 2011, 3 Major wins, 10 titles overall, and it would've been a Grand Slam, except that he ran into a vintage Federer at the French Open. There's no doubt in my mind he would've beaten Nadal there, too.

Nadal had a dazed, bewildered look in his face during the trophy ceremony. It almost seemed as though he was about to cry. No one has ever owned him this badly, and he's probably wondering what's going on. Djokovic has the exact same mental edge on Nadal that Nadal has on Federer. This is pretty amazing stuff, and as Don said, we're lucky to be watching these great players at the moment.

Novak has a style that is somewhere in between Nadal's and Federer's. So, it's safe to say he can stay relatively injury free during the next 3-4 years, and at only 24 years of age, should have no problems winning another 6 majors to reach double digits.

And if this level of dominance continues, then he, and not Nadal will take aim at Federer's record. If I'm not mistaken, Roger had 6 majors by the time he was 24, so Djokovic needs a similar year in 2012 and then it becomes a very real possibility.

Given the hostility towards Djokovic it did not surprise me at all to read posters at the NY Times blog (Straight Sets) claiming he must be on performance-enhancing drugs. Strangely, or perhaps not so strangely, I've never heard anyone accuse Serena of being on drugs.

Official bloggers at the NY Times have claimed his now famous match point shot against Federer was just lucky and that wind aided him against Nadal. (Did he also get lucky and have a wind advantage at Melbourne, Dubai, Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, Wimbledon, and so on?). Wilbon on PTI didn't sound impressed as it is "only one year" of dominance (unlike, let me guess, Tiger? Michael Jordan?:icon_rolleyes:). Novak's medical time out also seems to have rubbed some people the wrong way - no doubt influenced by McEnroe's comments - and some are saying he was cheating by supposedly getting some coaching during the match (Nadal was doing the same as do just about all the players as the rule is rarely enforced so why is he being singled out?).

Djokovic must be wondering what he has to do impress the US media and the fans who take their cues from said media.
