2011 Top 100m Sprinters

I haven't read anything new, but I presume it was Craig's back. Remember, that was really hurting. Didn't he recently say he had taken two epidurals this season? I can't even imagine that. It certainly sounds like the kind of thing you would do when the doctor says, "you need surgery, but it won't do any further damage if you want to take these shots and finish the season."
 
He was mentioned 5 years ago as a junior sprinter but Reto Schenkel from Switzerland just cracked a wind legal 10.19 2 days ago. Its sad that him combined with Pascal Mancini have 100 meter times better than any current white american other than Shane Crawford and Dallas Burroughs. Such is the plight of sprinting in the United States.
 
Reto Schenkel is black. It's so confusing with alot of the European Countries who have imigrants running on their national teams. Pascal Mancini is good over 60 meters but still has a hard time finishing strong over 100 meters. He is young though and I hope he will continue to get better.

The state of white sprinting in the US is disgusting. Even Wariner did very little to change the way things are done. We need a Lemaitre type sprinter for both the men and women.
 
Sorry about that. The lane I saw him on youtube made him look white to me.
 
Here's an updated Top 10 100m list

I have to say that outside of Lemaitre and Guilyev, it's a bit disappointing. We are still looking for a #3 sprinter behind these two. Yes, there are some new names there, but most made their best time with close to the maximum allowable wind, and haven't approached those times otherwise.
Alex Schaf ran a good time this weekend. I hadn't heard of him before. Let's hope there's more to come from him.

Here are the results for the race in Germany today. All of the german sprinters performed well with even Tobias Unger and Christian Blum all running in the 10.20's! Alex Schaf won as you said. Don't forget that Sebastian Ernst ran a World Championship A Qualifying time of 20.51 today too!

This is for jacknyc. Here is a video of Alex Schaf although it's not from a very good angle. Regardless, you can see him winning this race in a time of 10.36. He is 24 years of age so he would have to really get it going soon. We will still have to keep an eye on him.

I knew the Germans would get going! Nice to see, and it wouldn't surprise me if they have a guy that busts through the 10 barrier in the next couple years. I wish the US had 6 or 8 white guys for us to watch. :usa:

I did a rather quick check on IAAF to see how white sprinters compare this year to the past 10 years. So far this year we have 10 guys that have run under 10.22. Comparing this number to the number of guys who went sub 10.22 over the past 10 years this is what I found.
2010 - 5 sprinters under 10.22
2009 - 8
2008 - 6
2007 - 8
2006 - 4
2005 - 3
2004 - 8
2003 - 9 or 10 (is Prodromos Katsantonis white??)
2002 - 8
2001 - no 100m stats on IAAF site
2000 - 10

So as you can see, this is one of the best years for white sprinting in the past decade! With the worlds coming up, there are good chances that more sprinters will squeak in under 10.22 or improve on already great times. I think it's also important to look at the ages, as most of these guys are in their early to mid 20's. Plus we have some great young talent coming up such as Dallas Burroughs and some of the Brits. I really think things are starting to change and with Lemaitre doing so well and Guliyev right behind him, I think we may see some serious breakthroughs in the next couple years.

Disclaimer - I did this pretty quickly! I looked at each year 3-4 times to minimize errors but may have missed a sprinter or two. Also I didn't include any Brazilians, as I believe they are mostly all black. So please feel free to correct me if you find any errors.

For you track guys, I put together a list of the 10 fastest 100m white guys over the past 10 years (since 2003).

It's interesting to see that they are from all different countries - except Italy has 2 guys making the list.
Lemaitre, Gemili, Guliyev, and Reus are the only ones on this list that have enough youth on their side to possibly improve.
I think Gemili has the best chance for improvement.
Guliyev does not seem fully committed to the sport, and has not competed much lately.
Reus is a question mark to me. He hasn't had any other fast times.
Lemaitre is obviously the best of all, but may be trending downward. We'll have to wait and see.
Perhaps someone like Michael Tumi from Italy can be added to this list later this year.

Does this Kuc kid have any chance of cracking 10 seconds. Being Polish, I'm more interested in his potential. Has he been regressing?
 
Kuc is very inconsistent.
He runs one or two very good races every year, and the rest of his races are very average or worse.
Just when you think he's done, he runs another very good race, and so you hope he's going to improve. But then he goes back to average.

The Poles have been very strong in the 400m over the years, and are currently also strong in the 800m.

Great list but you have Matt Shirvingtoin with the wrong time. He has a personal best of 10.03!

Nic Macrozonaris also ran a p.b. of 10.03 although his was done at altitude.


I just noticed that the list only goes back to 2003 but these guys did run faster. We need to give our guys credit.
 
Yeah, the list is since 2003 - the past 10 yrs.
Shirvington and Macro's best times were before then.
I just wanted to give some perspective on recent sprinters....
