2011 Playoffs

So the finals don't start until June 1. Kids will be out of school for the summer holidays before the season ends. Bettman needs to sort this out...but he won't.
 
Game 1 of the Finals drew a 3.2 rating, up 14% from last year, impressive considering that last year two large U.S. markets were involved (Chicago and Philly) and this year just one.The game also drew more viewers in Boston than did Game 1 of last year's Boston-LA NBA finals.
 
Manny Malhotra is back. the crowed seemed to be on coital overload when his name was announced.

The Bruins are routing the Canucks in Game 3 to make it a series. The two teams have also developed a very healthy hatred for each other. Would love to see a grueling seven game series as they are pretty evenly matched.
 
Boston couldn't have scripted games 3 and 4 any better than they turned out -- wins of 8-1 and 4-0 to even the series. Lots and lots of bad blood between the two teams now. Tim Thomas has been a brick wall in goal for the Bruins; it'll be tough for the Canucks to come back but I expect them to go all out in Game 5 at home. Great stuff to watch.
 
The Canucks overcome two road blowout losses and win 1-0 to take a 3-2 series lead. This is reminding me of the 1960 World Series, when the Yankees blew out the Pirates three times but the Bucs won four close ones to win it. We'll see if the Bruins can force a Game 7. Or maybe the properword should be "I'll" see if the Bruins can force a Game 7 as apparently I'm the only poster here even watching the Stanley Cup finals.

(got rid of cable a while back.) I saw the other games that were on NBC and have plans to watch the next one (on NBC) this Monday. Great stuff so far. Hoping it goes the full seven and to the Bruins so that the Celtics get knocked out of the spotlight.
 
I have missed some games in this series, but I've caught the highlights on the NHL network.

Game 5 looks to have been an absolute classic contest!! Pucks missing the net by very small margins.

You are correct, what an EXCELLENT Finals series! Yes, lots of fresh, new malice between the two teams, who will, after the series is decided, become permanent rivals like Colorado and Detroit. I could have lived without the cheap-shot on Horton in Game Three, but if you admire your pass and then skate with your head down in the modern NHL, you get smoked!

Excellent effort by both teams. Vancouver showed me something by roaring back to win Game Five. But I think the series goes seven games.

Bud Light should dust off and re-air "The Swedish Twins" commericial, where Henrik and Daniel Sedin jump out of a cake!
 
I really like the fact that NHL is gaining on the NBA. It is doing this without much major network exposure as well. Edited by: Liverlips
 
Looks like it's going to go to Game 7 as it appears that the Bruins will blowout the Canucks again at home, now 5-1, with about 7 minutes left in the 3rd. And with the games being so close in Vancouver, Game 7 should go down to the wire.

and get comfortable in your favorite chair, Game 7 is about to start. The home team has won every game and this one is in Vancouver where the games have been very close. Should be crazy intense.
 
Vancouver won the first two games, but Boston dominated after that. Tim Thomas was way better in goal than Roberto Luongo and that was the difference maker. It's cool to see the Bruins win it after 39 long years.
 
Yes, even though it went the full 7, Boston was dominant throughout and deserved it. Frankly, I liked both teams and would've been happy either way. Boston played tonight's game as though they were on their own ice. Hopefully, come Fall, it'll be "Celtics who?" "Who cares?" "Let's go Bruins! " Congrats, Boston.
 
Just like in Game 3, the Canucks conceded a shorthanded goal in the second period. On both occasions, this gave Boston a 3-0 lead from which Vancouver were unable to recover. Roberto Luongo faced only 20 shots, but let in 3...

I suspected that Boston would probably win the Cup after the Canucks fell apart in the first period of Game 6, when they conceded those 4 goals within the first ten minutes...
 
Bettman gets booed every year during the presentation of the Stanley Cup, but the Vancouver fans really let him have it. That was in sharp contrast to how gracious they were in defeat, cheering their beaten home team and sticking around and applauding as the Bruins skated with the Cup.
 
I thoroughly enjoyed this series, and all of the fast, skilled, athletic and tough players on both teams. I'm sure that any DWFs that tuned in were aghast at the horrible descrimination that must go on in hockey! They would say "just think, the US could dominate hockey if LeBron, Kobe, Dwyane, Rose, Durant, A.D., Ray Lewis, and great athletes like that played! Not like all of these slow, stiff, no-wiggle white guys!"

As for me, congrats to the Bruins for their first Cup in 39 years, and to the Canuckleheads for a great 7 game series and a great season!

Nonsense, jaxvid! White union members will riot and destroy public property, like in Wisconsin, if they are told to by their union bosses! Just ask Kaptain Poop, err, Kaptain, as he was worked up to a near-violent state by the discussion that we had in the Happy Hour thread!
