First of all, I love my Buckeyes.

Luke Fickell was a starting nose tackle on the Ohio State team and has served as a defensive coach (linebackers and defensive linemen) and an assistant head coach in recent years for the Buckeyes. Fickell also has the designation of being arguably the greatest heavyweight wrestler of all-time in Ohio high school wrestling, winning three state championships in dominant fashion.

The Buckeyes have a ton of talent returning, even without the suspended players. We have the top center in the nation (again) in Mike Brewster. I have nothing but great things to say about tight end Jake Stoneburner. Goebel, Bellamy and the other big men on the defensive line are doing a heck of a job. Andrew Sweat will lead the always-talented Buckeye linebacking corps. Someone above mentioned Storm Klein -- watch out for him! My one wish (that will not be granted) is for the Buckeyes to start Bo Delande at running back. The guy was the best high school power back I've ever seen.

Regarding Andy Katzenmoyer, I have to respectfully disagree -- he had a 0.0 GPA, which (to me) speaks volumes. Give me James Laurinaitis or A.J. Hawk any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I loved those guys!

Tressel is not to blame for Pryor's problems. Pryor is not to blame for Tressel's problems.

I will always have a spot in my Buckeye fan heart for Coach Tressel -- but, as they say, "you sleep in the bed you make." And, for some very not-well-thought-out reasons, he decided to go way overboard catering to Pryor. That was his decision. He knows it.

As for Terrelle Pryor -- good riddance. To use Pryor's own words, he's a "fake Buckeye."

As for the quarterbacking situation, the Buckeyes have three options I've heard of... #1 is Bauserman, who is likeliest to get the job. #2 is true freshman Braxton Miller, who dazzled as a high school senior last year. I have heard that the powers-that-be are leaning toward him being a back-up. #3 is former back-up Kenny Guiton, a veteran who has displayed some athletic skills but not much as a quarterback (due to Pryor playing all the time).

Sorry guys been busy lately.

I guess we will find out all we need to know about Luke Fickell come this fall. Will he go with the Senior (white) QB in Joe Bauserman or will he "pull a Tressel" and sell out to the punk kid Freshman (black) QB Braxton Miller. That decision in and of itself will tell us all we need to know about Fickell. Hopefully he has a good memory and recalls how having 8 white defensive starters from his playing days can lead to awesome teams.

It is no surprise that Luke is the head coach its just the timing of it all. Everyone who knows the OSU program knew Tressel was grooming Fickell to take the reins of the team when Tressel would retire in a few years.

Sports talk here in Michigan is all gaga over the news. Talk is that the Bucks will lose a bunch of scholorships and open up a chance for UM MSU to win against them once in a while. Less scholorships? Good! That means more white guys I guess. I hope OSU plays even better when the 'tats and cars' crew leaves (which will be very soon).

Oh I bet there was a heap of wise cracks and laughs up there jaxvid! The one billboard even I had to admit was a classic. It went something like "Liar, Liar, Vest on Fire" lol

Jake Stoneburner was a star receiver in high school who was asked to play tight end once he arrived at Ohio State. He took a redshirt season and started putting on the weight he'd need to play the new position.

This is where the story gets interesting. As Stoneburner bulked up by more than 20 pounds, he didn't lose any speed. In fact, he has gotten even faster.

The junior recently finished an electronically timed 40-yard dash at 4.49 seconds, which was nearly two-tenths of a second better than his freshman year. That's coming from a guy who is 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, with a hang clean of 400 pounds in the weight room. Buckeyes strength coach Eric Lichter calls those numbers “freakish.â€￾

“Jake has always been able to run, and he is fast enough to outrun anyone," Lichter said. "But to have gained 20 pounds of muscle and to have this type of explosiveness in the 40 is really special.â€￾

Stoneburner says his lifting program at Dublin (Ohio) Coffman High School prepared him for college, and he was quickly able to put on about 15 pounds his redshirt freshman year. But too much of that was the typical "Freshman 15." After that year, he worked on adding muscle by improving his nutrition.

"I never eat fast food and never really eat fried food," he said. "I like candy, so I still eat some candy. I have a couple of cheat meals, but it's mostly a lot of protein, chicken and vegetables. I'm constantly feeding my body what it needs, and that's how you get results."

Stoneburner credits his lower-body work for his increases in strength and speed. His best performance on the squat is 505 pounds. He usually works out with defensive tackle John Simon, one of the strongest players on the team.

"We'll do 10 sets of 10 and really kill our legs," he says. "It helps with muscle endurance so you don't get tired during the game."

Ohio State might need Stoneburner's endurance this season. With star receiver DeVier Posey suspended for the first five games, the Buckeyes lack experience in the receiving corps. The young wideouts had their ups and downs this spring. Coaches occasionally lined up Stoneburner in the slot during spring drills and could feature him more in the passing game this season.

"We don't have any receivers who have proven themselves, so I feel like a tight end could be the quarterback's best friend this year," Stoneburner said.

To get ready for a potentially larger role, Stoneburner has spent time this preseason running routes with Indianapolis Colts receiver and former Buckeyes star Anthony Gonzalez, who was working out in Columbus during the NFL lockout. Gonzalez, coincidentally, was the last player before Stoneburner to wear No. 11 for Ohio State.

"He was an incredible route runner when he was here, and he's been able to critique me on little things and help me get a lot better," Stoneburner says. "It feels really natural, because that's what I did in high school. I'm able to run routes and get open like I thought I could."

Nice article. Wow, a 6'5", 250lb player with 4.49/40 speed playing in the slot? Has this ever happened before? It looks like the coaches are just trying to find a racially-appropriate position for him. At this point he may as well just play TE instead. Hopefully they won't move him to fullback. This guy has the potential to be a major weapon of mass destruction offensively. 4-5 years ago the Ohio State program wouldn't have hesitated to use him on the outside. He could be monstrously destructive as a DE as well with that size, strength, and speed. His 10-yard dash is probably even more impressive.

Looks like OSU might get off lightly for the latest infraction. (darn I was hoping they would have to abandon the football program).

"The NCAA has told Ohio State that it won’t face the most severe charges possible in the memorabilia-for-cash and tattoos scandal that cost football coach Jim Tressel his job.
Investigators said they found no evidence that Ohio State failed to properly monitor its football program or any evidence of a lack of institutional control, according to a letter sent to the university and released Friday.
NCAA investigators also said they have not found any new violations."

I guess dumping Tressell was the right move. It doesn't leave the NCAA anyone to hang for the crime.

Jaxvid, I like your sig quote...It's a funny comparison. It's funny because it is so sad, but RIDICULOUS that that can be true.

The U.S governent also gets involved in tons of overseas disputes that they shouldn't be wasting their time with when America can't even reduce the debt with a probable impending dollar crash coming. As your quote says, the U.S can't even protect the border so why is there so much worries about other countries borders lol.

But they can put a man on the moon lol- although they probably don't even have the money available to do that again lol.

Now back to OSU...I hate this team! It would take a white RB for me to even consider cheering for them.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Two days after several Ohio State freshmen proudly displayed wristbands supporting deposed Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel, the university has taken them away and refunded the players' money.

Ohio State spokesman Jerry Emig said Friday that officials wondered if wearing the wristbands -- which said "JT" -- could be an NCAA violation.
"We don't know that yet, but that's what compliance is looking into," Emig said.
Because Ohio State goes before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions Aug. 12, it also might appear that the school remains firmly behind a coach who was forced out May 30.
Tressel was pressured to resign when it was revealed he knew some of his players had broken NCAA rules and he did not report it for more than nine months.
"There was a concern that maybe this isn't a thing that should have been done," Emig said of the wristbands, which were worn by several freshmen at a news conference Wednesday.
He added that Ohio State decided to take a "cautionary" approach after the wristbands, which were sold by an Ohio State staffer, were mentioned prominently in several media reports. After turning in their wristbands, players were refunded $15 for each wristband.
Emig said interim head coach Luke Fickell was unaware that a staffer had sold the wristbands.

I wonder how many of these freshmen were black?

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State University announced Friday that three football players suspended for taking $200 at a Cleveland charity event earlier this year will miss the upcoming Toledo game.
Adding to the football team's recent troubles, a statement by the NCAA indicated the university will face more scrutiny over the most recent rules transgression.


The "facts submitted by the university have raised further questions that need to be answered before the reinstatement process is complete," the NCAA said.
The university said starting tailback Jordan Hall and cornerback Travis Howard and backup safety Corey Brown won't play in the 15th-ranked Buckeyes' game against Toledo on Saturday.
The three already missed Ohio State's 42-0 victory over Akron last week.

If there are violations while you're already serving punishment for previous violations, I'm pretty sure the NCAA considers that "Lack of Institutional Control". If it were any school other than OSU (or one of the other "Big Names" in football) the penalties would be severe.

How can an institute of higher learning pay that sum to an instructor of a ball game? I ask facetiously as I know the ludicrous answer.

College footbal teams can be tremendous money generators. His salary is no doubt more then covered by the money the team will generate both for itself and the university.

I think eventually the football teams of major universities will be spun off as private business with some small connection to the school. This used to happen a lot with research facilities at various universities that found niches where they could make money as a private business.

The legal cost of being associated with the football/basketball teams will become too onerous. Penn State is going to find that out and there will be other ways that special interest groups will find to sue them out of money.

The teams currently exist to provide blacks to the student body but they are developing other ways of sneaking them in so there will less of a need to use the sports programs for that purpose.

I actually had the numbers wrong its 6 years 24 million with a 2 million dollar retention bonus. It's still too high in my book, Meyer must be making double what his "bosses" make. I don't think a coach at a supposedly amateur level should make more than about what Paterno makes/made(600k apx.).
