Ravens wide receivers coach Jim Hostler said Dennis Pitta is "very similar" to the departed Todd Heap.

The battle between Pitta and Ed D1ckson to replace Heap as the starting tight end is on. ****son certainly has a leg up as the guy that was Heap's direct backup last year. But the better Pitta performs, the more he will eat into ****son's snaps. We don't see either tight end as an every-down player this season.

Ravens SLB Jarret Johnson was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4.

Johnson and Terrell Suggs are playing as well as any outside linebacker duo in the NFL. Johnson returned a fumble 26 yards for a touchdown, had two quarterback hits and three tackles against the Jets last week. Jets coach Rex Ryan says Johnson is so underrated that the Ravens coaching staff used to laugh about it. Suggs and Ray Lewis won Defensive Player of the Week honors in Weeks 1 and 3.

According to the article linked below, the Ravens started Dennis Pitta at receiver in place of Lee Evans, who couldn't replace the injured, very slow Anquan Boldin in their last game. I expect Pitta to be their primary tight end next season over Ed Dickson. Pitta and Dickson were both drafted in 2010 and the DWFs and "experts" have continually predicted that Dickson would be the starter, much the same way they assumed that Aaron Hernandez would be Patriots' receiving TE and Rob Gronkowski would be mainly a blocker when they likewise were drafted together in '10. It's just assumed by the know-nothings that Dickson is the better athlete because he's black, but Pitta is a much better all-around receiver and is faster than Dickson (and certainly faster than Boldin, who has always been slow but was unable to separate at all this season).

With veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin sidelined after knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and backup wide receiver Lee Evans ineffective as his replacement, the Ravens installed Pitta in Evans' place against the Bengals.

Pitta caught a nine-yard touchdown pass on a route to the right corner of the end zone.

Playing split end on a regular basis for the first time since he was a skinny high school player, Pitta rose to the occasion as he returned to his roots.

"Shoot, I was tall and skinny back in high school," Pitta said. "I played wide receiver at times even at BYU. It's something that's comfortable for me. It wasn't too much of an adjustment. With Anquan down and him being such a pivotal part of this offense, other guys had to step up. It's fun to be able to be flexed out and move all over the field."

Pitta's outside presence created matchup problems against the Bengals' much smaller cornerbacks.

There wasn't much they could do to account for his size, hands and movement.

Way to divide the locker room right before the AFC Championship game. Of course, since we're all rooting for NE, maybe this ill-timed commentary is a good thing. But from a racial dynamics perspective, I really wonder if Reed would have said any of these things about a fellow "brutha". He and Ray Lewis basically run the show over there, and their locker-room cred must be off the charts to come out and say whatever, whenever they want.

White QBs on the Ravens have been under the microscope of unreasonable and often irrational expectations going back to Brian Billick and the coal black, thuggish teams he assembled, an m.o. that has changed little under John Harbaugh. Perhaps Ozzie Newsome is the main engineer as he's been around a long time. Kyle Boller, Chris Redman and others never had a chance to succeed in that atmosphere. Trent Dilfer did succeed, but was discarded after leading the team to a Super Bowl win. Flacco is very talented and has done exceedingly well in his first four seasons as far as winning games, but it's never enough for the Ravens DWFs and some of the defensive players as well.

I was hoping Caldwell would go back to the college ranks. I feel sorry for Joe Flacco.

Ravens signed S Sean Considine to a one-year contract.

Considine, 29, can play both strong and free safety in a pinch, and contribute on special teams. He's the Ravens' replacement for Tom Zbikowski.

Oh, darn, I hope my avatar didn’t put a hex on the violent, monster-faced slug. If so, “Danielle” Rooney, Mike Tomlin, and Barry Dunham should expect rough times 2012. Wouldn’t that be a shame?

Sadly, Suggs’ unfortunate injury means that ESPN viewers will no longer be subject to hearing Ebonics-breathed anchors such as that Mudshark-Hapry-Wigger, Lindsey Czarniak, exclusively referring to “it” as “T-Sizzle” whenever “it” is being discussed. God, that was so annoying...but knowing her dark “tastes,” she was probably imagining her second “Fairytale Chocolate Wedding.” Tis every little Muddy-Marx-Girl’s dream, after all…

I wonder how the elder “Harbaugh Brat” is taking this tragic news? After all, with Jarrett Johnson (as well as prominent backup Tom Zbikowki) leaving via free agency, the little Nepotism-beneficiary was probably salivating at the chance to field an all-black defense in 2012. Now, he’ll be forced to play talented 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] rounder, Paul Kruger, in place of the “Upright Walking Wrinkle-Faced Bat.” Sean Considine was also signed this offseason, so “Wigger Jim” better hope that Ed Reed (who’s 33 years old, but looks 53) isn’t injured (again).

hopefully Paul Kruger gets a real shot, he has done well in his limited playing time. I remember being on a Ravens board and posters were accused of being racist after being pyched about Kruger's play in limited action saying no one would care if he were black. There were shocked, they were simply excited about a SECOND ROUND pick starting to live up to expectations. I guess fans will no longer be able to root for White players on their own team and hope for early picks to fail? His chance has been long over due.

Sean Considine has been screwed over so hopefully he gets a chance. With the Raven's front 7 it will make like much easier on him. People think that Ed Reed would have all of those picks if he played on a team that didn't get pressure. This also the reason Troy Palamalu has been able to stand out, kind of easy when your teammates have everything covered and you can freelance while the front 7 gets pressure.

Ravens sign WR Jacoby Jones. Not only did they sign him, they increased his pay. Jones signs a two-year, $7 million contract. :noidea:
