The Penguins put themselves in a hole by losing the first game to Ottawa, 5-4. Marc-Andre Fleury had a poor game but the team as a whole didn't play with enough passion. Rest on your laurels in this league and you are on the outside looking in real quick.
I couldn't watch the game on Versus because of DirecTV's endless pissing match with Dish, so ended up watching the CBC's broadcast by way of a stream on one site being streamed to another site. (Folks in Canada can watch all the playoff games on CBC's site but not Americans.) Somehow or other all the commercials were those of ESPN. And what did good old ESPN choose to fill the broadcast in the way of house commercials during a hockey game featuring two all-white teams, an all-white crowd and an all-white viewing audience? Innumerable tributesto "black pioneers" in baseball (Curt Flood), football (black AFL QB Marlin Briscoe), basketball (didn't bother to even catch the names), and of course hockey legend Willie O'Ree, he of the 4 career goals. There were others that I didn't catch.
Oh, there was also hockey legend Gordie Howe. Some brief highlights of his career were shown, then present day old Gordie was briefly interviewed by an ESPN reporter -- black of course. I wonder if there's ever been anything comparable in world history to the way blacks -- 1/8 of the population -- are incessantly foisted on the U.S. population.
