Russia's Olga Kucherenko finally cracked the seven-metre barrier when she flew out to a world leading 7.13m in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Thursday.
The 24-year-old from Sidory, near Volgograd, smashed her previous best of 6.91m set at last year's Russian Championships. It was the longest jump in the world for almost three years.
Having won a bronze medal at last year's European Athletics Indoor Championships, Kucherenko then placed fifth at last summer's World Championships.
Kucherenko had an outstanding series at the Russian team championships, with the jumpers only having four attempts: 7.13m, 6.83m, 6.99m, 6.82m.
A distant second was the reigning European champion Lyudmila Kolchanova with 6.62m.
