Great! I wondered where Ambler was this year. He usually comes over here to run our championships but never turned up.

His legal best 10.35 set last year at 19 looks set to go as he chases a Commonwealth Games qualifier. Tiny guy with big calves and high turnover

Great times by both of those sprinters. I'm really glad to see JayConn open up with a blazing time. He took the indoor season off this year and like alot of other sprinters like Guliyev, Cerruti, etc, it will really help him. What a fast time for March.

Well the times are not as impressive as I thought. Jared had a +4.6 wind and David had a 2.6 wind at his back. So neither time is wind legal. Too bad. Either way, you can't beat opening up your seasons with a win!

The youngster Wilhelm Van der Vyver of South Africa finished 2nd in the South African Track Championships. He ran a 20.60 and only lost by 3/100th of a second. Outstanding run by Wilhelm. He reminds me of Shane Crawford of Purdue. Both of these guys ran in the 10.30's range in high school and have stuggled since. Crawford had counless injuries but I'm not sure what happened with Wilhelm. I believe he was probably concentrating on school as I rarely saw his name even on the starting lists the last couple of years. I hope he can become a force again. He has youth on his side. The kid can't be more than 21 years of age.

Marek Niit won the 100 today at the Razorback invitational. Windy day, but a win's a win, and it follows on the heels of Connaughton's and Ambler's victories. Nice to see this run of firsts in the sprints.

Incidentally, the results listed Niit (misspelled Nitt) as unattached. Not sure why. Thought he ran for Arkansas.

Cut and paste here:

Jared Connaughton of New Haven teamed up with an International
4x100 relay team to win the University of Texas at Arlington Bobby Lane
Invitational recently.
<div>Connaughton and teammates Anson Henry of Ontario and Americans Otis
McDaniel and Darvis (Doc) Patton won in a time 39.33 seconds.</div>
<div>All teammates were Olympians except McDaniel, who is an
all-American.</div>
<div>The time was the third-fastest relay time in the world this year.</div>
<div>Connaughton also won the 200-metre event and ran away from the rest
of the competitors in extreme wind conditions in a field of over 70
sprinters.</div>
<div>Connaughton will compete next weekend at the Texas Relays at the
University of Texas in Austin.</div>

I can't find the full results (with wind), but Jared Connaughton finished second at the North Texas Spring Classic yesterday, running the 100 in 10.32.

David Ambler won his 100 heat at the ACC championships in 10.37 and will be in the finals. Just missing the finals was North Carolina's freshman footballer Hunter Furr at 10.55. As many of you know, Furr, despite being the fastest player on the football team (and, as far as track goes, only one NC runner beat him, and just by .01), was switched to fullback as a freshman. Imagine being the fastest player on your team yet being switched to fullback.

In more uplifting news, the top two qualifiers for the 400 finals were Kevin Borlee (soph-fl state) and Kevin Anding (soph-VA). Borlee finished a full second ahead of the third place qualifier, Antonio McKay, Jr., son of a juiced Olympian.
Tyler Dodds also made the finals. He's a so-so decathlete, but fast.
Has a 10.79 in the 100 and 21.79 in the 200. Apparently good at the 400, too.

Mark Domaracki is in the 400 final, too.

Hunter Furr would be alot faster if he weren't forced to put on 20 lbs to play fullback. What a joke! Dusty Stamer was treated the same way back for Nebraska several years ago. He was the fastest player on the team yet they didn't want him to be a running back. Dusty left the team and eventually ran track full time his last couple of years. He did good but would have been better if he just focused on track. The same sad treatment is happening to Furr. Why did he have to choose N.Carolina? What a waste of God given talent.

Still no finals posted yet. I hope Ambler can p.b.

Borlee won the 400 meters finals. Congrats on a nice race. Way to get the season rolling early.

JayConn runs in LA later today. Hopefully he can post another seasons best time!

Jared Connaughton rolled to an easy victory in the 200. Looks like he didn't run the 100. The second place finisher was also Canadian, but I haven't looked him up:

A huge day in US distance running yesterday, as Chris Solinsky and Galen Rupp took the American 10,000 record back from the Kenyan and Ethiopian ringers who held it. Names like Meb Keflezighi and Abdi Abdirahman have been erased from the US record list! This is fantastic. Both runners train with Alberto Salazar in the special high altitude Nike house, and their success proves that the Africans have always owed their advantage solely to growing up at altitude.

Correction--only Rupp trains with Salazar. Solinsky, who DEMOLISHED the old record, had never even run a 10k before.

More news from the big Manchester event. UK champion Andy Turner (white) won both 110m and 200m hurdles in the space of just 40 minutes, and he did so over top competition, including Terrence Trammell. He may be emerging as someone to keep an eye on.

Jay Conn got screwed over last year and would've probably advanced to the 200 finals in Berlin if he hadn't been disqualified. He would've ran around 20.3-20.5ish anyway though, so Bolt would've been the only one the camera could see so what does it even matter...

The season is so close I can taste it!

Anyone watch the Pac 10 Championships. Oregon had an all white 400m relay team. If I remember correctly they came in 4th or 5th place.
