Problem is Brackett was signed to a long-term big-money contract during the offseason. Wheeler isn't very good but it looks like the Colts are staying with him for a while. Gotta hope this isn't another high draft pick on a White LB who nonetheless is immediately pigeon-holed as a backup, like Connor for the Panthers and Carpenter for the Cowboys. Poor Bob Sanders. The "tabloid media" is out to get him, since they are speculating that he might be done after being perpetually injured. The only thing that he's right about and the article is wrong about is that the NFL Network is indeed, tabloid media.

It is unusual, however, to see the pro-black NFL Network criticizing one of their own, usually only white players are fair game. If Sanders was, say, Brian Bosworth, he would have been "retired" long ago for his shoulder and bicep problems.

When i look at that picture of manning with collie, i get the feeling its no coincidence that the colts have had Stokely,Clark, Gonzo, Giguere, and now Collie on this offense. I think Manning might be doing (behind the scenes) what we need more white QBs to do- getting some of his brothers aboard.

The Colts offense is a thing of beauty. A mostlyl white offensive line, three white receivers, a stud white tight end and the best quarterback in the game. It looks like the Colts may start two sumos on the offensive line this season however.

Manning won't put up with sumos making mistakes on his offensive line. He doesn't tolerate dumb penalties or sacks and won't hesitate to rip into his teammates. This will only work as long as he has a majority white offense. Otherwise, the blacks would quit on him.

From Waltefootball:

Austin Collie, WR, Colts

Anthony Gonzalez is running behind Austin Collie as the Colts' slot
receiver. Collie had a relatively great rookie campaign in 2009, and
should be able to hold off Gonzalez.

Nice to see Collie doing well but Gonzalez will now be a #4 receiver.

an injury to Wayne and/or Garcon would be needed in order for him to start, although i don't think that him outplaying Garcon is out of a question either.

Yeah, a white receiver has to dominate in order to be considered for a starting role in a caste position, and even then it is tenuous at best. I noted a story earlier that showed the area that the Colts need to improve on the most this year is rushing, as their afflete RBs are feeble runners. Perhaps Garcon could recommend the BEST offensive player from his college team..... Nah!

Gonzalez was a first round pick with tremendous speed who was supposed to be a starter yet is now going to be a #4 guy. This is all being done in favor of afflete Pierre Garcon who should be the #4 receiver behind Wayne, Gonzalez, and Collie. It's not Gonzalez's fault he was injured.

Last year I read that Peyton spent time during the off season travelling to visit Garcon, throwing passes and working with him to improve his game.I wonder if he did the same for Anthony, or if he spent extra time working with him too? Just curious. I don't think any White QB's would go too far out of their way to help their own kind.

We already know the answer to that one. Gonzalez is most likely in the same boat as Kevin Curtis, a very fast and athletic white receiver who will never reach his full potential because of injuries and the Caste system.

An afflete's misfortune is Mitch King's possible gain. But it's a joke that King wasn't drafted and is currently roaming around the fringes of the league. He should be a starting DT or DE in the NFL.

Colts placed DT John Gill on the reserve/non-football illness list. Players placed on reserve/NFI are eligible to return in Week 7, but Gill is expected to miss the season while being treated for alcoholism. His loss will give Mitch King and rookie Ricardo Mathews better shots to make the team.

I hope King finally gets a chance to prove himself. The guy was great in college. They asked Big 10 offensive lineman who was the toughest defensive lineman to go against and they all agreed it was Mitch King.

I wish every college player's bio included their racial breakdown. It would make our jobs easier!

Interesting. . . I should have known by the swift and sure punishment he received for drinking that he might not be an afflete.

This situation does seem fishy. Is he really an "alcoholic" -- or are they just maligning him as such?

When one of the Saint's coaches got busted for vicoden, some ex player came out and wrote this big article about the rampant abuse of pain pills in the NFL. He said that every time a player has to go to rehab for pain pill addiction, that they usually say he is having alcohol problems.

During a day off from training camp, Gill was arrested for public intoxication. However, he was released from jail with no charges filed.

According to a police report, Gill was found passed out in a ditch at 4 a.m, smelling of a strong odor of alcohol, speaking with a slur and having trouble standing.

Gill was allegedly "disheveled and soiled"

The Colts didn't have much to say about the situation.

"We are aware there is an incident," Colts teamspokeman John Gill said. "We do not have details and will have no comment."

It's against the law to be passed out drunk in a ditch???!!! I'm not defending the guy but what business does the government have about this? I can't see how anyone was in any danger. Can't the cops find real criminals to catch? Is it the business of the state to regulate the morality of the people? Passed out in a ditch is one of the best places for a drunk guy to be. In fact they should put passed out drunk guys in ditches. Damn police state!

Amazing, isn't it? And not only that, anytime you are arrested for public intoxication, you are instantly labeled an "alcoholic" and forced into programs. A close family member was arrested for DWI, and even though this person basically never drinks, and made a one-time mistake, they are forced to go through rigorous alcoholic programs and probation degradation with the worst dregs in society. This is what our friend, John Gill, gets to look forward to in this U.S. of Amerika! Edited by: FootballDad

Pretty freaking stupid for an undrafted white defensive tackle to be getting trashed during training camp. Save it for the offseason or after you get cut.

Yesterday I read, I think on Rotoworld, that Gonzalez is now working ahead of Collie in the slot. Meanwhile, the precious afflete Garcon cannot be competed with, apparently. So, Collie has an outstanding rookie season and his reward is... to be demoted?

Meanwhile, Gonzalez gets injured and, despite wasting a #1 draft pick on him, the team considers him no better than a #3-4 WR? And Garcon is entrenched as a #2 guy after a "sterling" season where he caught 47 passes, for 765 yards, and FOUR TDs? Kind of like the incredibly overrated Jeremy Macklin, whose pedestrian stats were almost identical- 56-773-4. Meanwhile, Macklin's fellow rookie, Austin Collie, had a much more impressive season, catching more balls then either of them, 60, for 676 yards, and nearly doubling each of their TD totals with SEVEN.

In any just organization, Collie would be considered to have had a better rookie season than Macklin, and Garcon would be well behind him on the Colts' depth chart. Instead, Macklin has that magical "playmaker" label attached to him, and Garcon is just as overhyped and considered an untouchable starter. Collie produced more, with far, far, fewer opportunities. Garcon alone probably dropped more passes than everyone else on the Colts' team. Still, he was never punished for that, and continued to be bombarded with targets every game.

This is another reason why I consider statistics to be very important. They should usually be the great equalizer, and are about our only argument to keep the DWFs from shouting, "I know that dude sucks, man!" or "He's got that athleticism!" as their arguments for which players are actually better.

Will Colts' Jerry Hughes show growth?; Preseason game tonight to show No. 1 pick's progress

The Indianapolis Colts want to see some production tonight from rookie defensive end Jerry Hughes.

Hughes was the team's top draft pick, presumably the heir apparent whenever the end of the road arrives for Dwight Freeney or Robert Mathis, but his preseason so far as been uneventful. In other words, he hasn't shown much to justify his first-round status.

As the Colts play the Bengals at 7 tonight in Lucas Oil Stadium in their final preseason game, the coaches' eyes will be on Hughes.

"I think he's a young, developing player who has skill and ability and just needs reps,"Â￾ Colts coach Jim Caldwell said.

Hughes, out of Texas Christian University, has recorded two solo tackles and one assist in three preseason games. Other rookies have made a much bigger impact, including linebackers Pat Angerer (team-high 23 tackles and two sacks) and Kavell Conner.

"Weird"...
