The Yankees have three white every day starters to open the season in CF Brett Gardner, 1B Mark Teixeira and RF Xavier Nady. They also have LF Johnny Damon (half White half Thai), and Nick Swisher should play a lot as a DH and OF, giving them an all-White outfield.

For the past half dozen years or so the Yanks only started one white (plus Damon).

The previously super-Caste Mets have four white everyday starters -- David Wright, LF Daniel Murphy, RF Ryan Church, and C Brian Schneider.

Sheffield hasn't had a good season since 2005 and was just .225/19/57 last year so hopefully he'll be a reserve with the Yankees.

I'm going to try and write a team by team rundown in about a week and a half after some deadlines pass for other priorities, but here arethe teams we can root for this year. These teams all rate from majority White to overwhelmingly White. The Rays aren't really white friendly but are improved from last season. Note: AL teams start 9 everyday players including DH, NL teams 8:

Red Sox: 7 white starters and 4 white starting pitchers

Rays: A little whiter this year with3 white starters (4 if Jason Bartlett is white and not a white/black mix) plus 5 white starting pitchers

Orioles: 5 white starters, 3 white starting pitchers

Blue Jays: 6 white starters (SS Marco Scutaro is Venezuelan with an Italian father and Spanish mother), 4 white starting pitchers

Twins: 6 white starters and 4 white starting pitchers

White Sox: 5 white starters plus Carlos Quentin who is a very Spanish looking Mexican, 3 white starting pitchers

Athletics: 6 white starters plus Eric Chavez, another Spanish looking Mexican, 5 white starting pitchers

Rangers: 7 white starters, 4 white starting pitchers

Braves: 6 white starters, 3 white starting pitchers

Marlons: 5 white starters, 4 white starting pitchers

Cardinals: 6 white starters, 4 white starting pitchers

Pirates: 7 white starters, 4 white starting pitchers

Diamondbacks: 5 white starters, 5 white starting pitchers

Rockies: all white starting lineup!! 2 white starting pitchers

Padres: 5 white starters, 4 white starting pitchers

The two Los Angeles teams have taken over from the 2 New York teams as the most Caste oriented as each starts just 1 white everyday player. The Giants also start just 1 white player.

The Astros have apparently taken to heart all the criticism leveled at them for being too white (even though they made it to the World Series with all those honkies), as they have just 3 white starters to open the season, and a black manager.

The season opened last night with the Braves beating the Phillies,Derek Lowe pitched a gem,and was backed up by a power surge of home runs by Brian McCann,Jeff Francoeur, and rookie centerfielder Jordan Shafer.

McCann's homer was especially sweet because caste announcer Jon Miller said the Braves would have power problems batting Brian in the number 4 spot,Brian's homer was a rocket launched into the upper deck in right field.

Jordan Shafer's homer was even sweeter as it was his first major league hit,and because espn made it a point to mention, and to show a graphic about a 50 game suspension involving Shafer,Chipper Jones was very solid as always, these fine White American players will be fun to watch this year.espn lower case intended!

McCann is an outstanding hitting catcher. So are Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit. Super prospect Matt Weiters should be another. Chris Iannetta of the Rockies has a lot of potential at the plate. It's great to see White catchers holding their own against the hispanic onslaught at the position.

I couldn't figure out Damon's ethnicity. I always thought he was Native American.

The Phillies only have 2 white starters (Utley & Werth), however the pitching staff (sans Park) is all white.

I've noticed that some of you guys have very narrow definitions of race. Not all Mexicans have dark skin. In the last US census, I believe almost half of Mexican Americans identified themselves as white along with their Mexican national origin. Now obviously half the Mexican American population isn't of primarily European descent. They're more likely mestizos who happen to have a lighter complexion like Quentin and Chavez (both of whom identify as Mexican American).

My point is that it's not up to any of us to define another person's ethnicity, especially if they come from a mixed cultural as well as ethnic background like these guys. I've heard Chavez and Quentin refer to themselves as Mexican American but I've never heard them refer to themselves as white. This isn't back in the days of slavery when an individual who was discovered to posses even a single drop of African blood was automatically labeled black or when an individual who could fool others by "passing" as white at first sight was considered caucasian. By the way, these two guys aren't even good examples of that- if they were surrounded by a crowd of other Mexican Americans, neither would stand out. Only individuals with preconceived notions of what a Mexican should </span>look like would automatically label them as white.

If you had actually taken the time to learn what Caste Football is about before deciding to troll here, you would know that our policy here is that we have no set definition of who is white and who isn't. We understand that there will always be a "gray" area where reasonable people can disagree.

We all root for those athletes we root for on an individual basis. Some root for Johnny Damon, Teddy Bruschi, Carlos Quentin, Kevin Kaesviharn, etc. The Caste System almost solely benefits blacks. Evan Longoria's parentage, or that of Tony Romo, is meaningless in the bigger picture of the Caste System. Do you even know what the Caste System is? You're picking a fight that doesn't exist here.

I don't entirely disagree with that post. Whites are the ethnic majority in this country and will continue to be. I'm Mexican American myself and both of my older siblings married caucasians. Their children do have lighter features and technically have more European than Native DNA. However, that doesnt automatically make them Caucasian per se.

Dude, based on my own perception, a person is Hispanic based on their nationality, language, and religion alone. If these guys had English names, nothing to debate there. Lots of Hispanics are white or mostly white, whether they acknowledge it or not is their choice. But based on keen observers like me, if they look white (facial features), then they are white regardless. Hispanics are no different from Spaniards in fact, only in terms. Hispanics speak Spanish, so do Spaniards, so cut this nonsense. Edited by: j41181

Well I'm mexican american as I pointed out earlier and based on my expertise and "keen observation" both of these guys appear to be average fellow Mexican Americans- so where does that leave us? As I said, it's not up to us to define their ethnicity or put them into specific racial categories.

Anyway, there seem to be two seperate conversations on the same topic. It's not my intention to "troll" or monopolize the conversation so I'll leave it at that.

Me neither, I respect Mexican-Americans alike, I'm Catholic, and I enjoy speaking Spanish every once in a blue moon. Nice to have an intellectual someone here in Caste Football.

Solitario we are just saying Longoria has white genes, and for that we root for him like our own. Mexico can root for him as their own too. Mexico is sort of like America I guess in that the ethnicity is varied. Some are mestizos, some are white (spanish), and others are very dark and Indian or with Asiatic genes. Longoria is obviously white.

Solitario: If you want to have a discussion about ethnicity, find the appropriate thread elsewhere.

Back to baseball....I'm real excited about Jordan Schafer, the Braves new CF, as LabMan points out above. He looks like a real talent.

Nick Swisher is off to a good start with the Yankees.

Obviously I'm not a Reds fan, but I'm hoping for big seasons from young players Joey Votto and Jay Bruce.

Jason Bay had two homers yesterday. He can also do a solid job in left and on the basepaths, something Manny Ramirez tried to delete from the job description, and Bay is an all-around team player-unlike the selfish, egomaniac that is Ramirez. The Red Sox are lucky to have Bay.

Solid post as always VanSlyke,

Notice that the positions of centerfield and catcher are slowly coming back to White players, they are the skill and leadership positions, and no matter what the "social engineers"of this fine sport try to do,this is hard to deny.Don Wassall gave a rundown of solid White American catchers in his above post, and again,he is right on the money!

You say the Red Sox are lucky to have Jason Bay,and you are correct,at the position of left field in Pittsburgh,Jason Bay has been replaced by Nyjer Morgan,we cannot see into the future but,if Nate McClouth falters, will he be replaced by Andrew McCutcheon?,In my opinion, the Pirate outfield should be,Brandon Moss,Nate McClouth, and,Eric Hinske.

We will talk about another of your and Skips solid players,Steve Pearce, but that is for another thread!

Very welcoming indeed, whites have always been very good at those positions.

I went through the American League pitching staffs and here's a little more info on top of what Don and PhillyBirds have already posted for the start of the 2009 season.

The black American is virtually nonexistent as a major league hurler once again this year.

Note: Of course Latin American players range from Sidney Ponson to Fernando Rodney in pigmentation. I'm not getting into the eye test here so much as just showing where the pitchers are from.

Boston: 0 black Americans (1 Japanese and 2 Latin Americans)

Boston: 0 blacks (3 Japanese and 2 Latin Americans)

New York: C.C. Sabathia-the 160 kilogram/$160 million man (5 Latin Americans and 1 Taiwanese)
smiley21.gif

Tampa Bay: looks like all whites to me
smiley14.gif

Toronto: 0 blacks (1 American Hispanic in Ricky Romero)

Chicago White Sox: 0 blacks (3 Latin Americans and 1 American Hispanic in D.J. Carrasco)

Cleveland: 0 blacks (3 Latin Americans and 1 Japanese)

Detroit: 1 black in Edwin Jackson and Dementia-Train Willis on the DL with anxiety disorder
smiley29.gif
Detroit also has 3 Latin Americans. An overall
smiley21.gif

Kansas City: 0 blacks (4 Latin Americans)

Minnesota: 0 blacks (2 Latin Americans)

L.A. Angels: 1 black in retread Darren Oliver (1 American Hispanic in Brian Fuentes and 1 Latin American)

Oakland: 0 blacks (1 Latin American)
smiley20.gif

Seattle: 0 blacks (3 Latin Americans)

Texas: 0 blacks (1 Hispanic American in Eddie Guardado)
smiley14.gif

Stuff like this must cause the racist Joe Morgan a lot of sleepless nights.

Here's the NL:

Atlanta: 0 blacks (1 American Hispanic in Mike Gonzalez, 1 Japanese, and 4 Latin Americans) No wonder they're no longer America's Team on TBS.

Florida: 0 blacks (1 American Hispanic in Ricky Nolasco and 4 Latin Americans)

N.Y. Mets: 0 blacks (5 Latin Americans)

Philly: 0 blacks (1 Korean)
smiley14.gif

Washington: 0 blacks (5 Latin Americans)

Chi Cubs: 0 blacks (4 Latin Americans)

Cincy: 1 black in grandpa Arthur Rhodes and I'm sure Dusty Baker wants more (3 Latin Americans and 1 American Hispanic in Daniel Herrera)

Houston: 2 blacks in LaTroy Hawkins and Wesley Wright with (2 Latin Americans) I guess getting to a World Series with white men was just not acceptable.

Milwaukee: 0 blacks (3 Latin Americans and 1 American Hispanic in Manny Parra)

Pittsburgh: 2 blacks in Ian Snell and Donald Veal
smiley21.gif
(1 American Hispanic in Jesse Chavez)

St. Louis: 0 blacks (2 Latin Americans)

Arizona: 0 blacks (3 Latin Americans)

Colorado: 0 blacks (3 Latin Americans)

L.A. Dodgers: 2 blacks in James McDonald and Cory Wade to go along with (1 Japanese, 1 Taiwanese and 3 Latin Americans)
smiley21.gif

San Diego: 0 blacks (6 Latin Americans)
smiley13.gif

San Francisco: 0 blacks (2 Latin Americans)

There are only 10 black American pitchers by my count at present. They couldn't even get a team together to play an old-timers game against the Negro Leagues.
